really liked it
bookshelves: historicalnovels, fiction

I don't think that the translation of Saramago's book did this story justice. He won the nobel prize for lit in 1998.

Arjun Is the portuguese version worth reading?

Elizabeth I havn't read the Portuguese version, I just remember that when I read the introduction to this version, the translator commented that the author refused to make certain changes that they suggested. As I was reading, there were several passages that I found to be clunky. I assumed that the Portuguese version was smoother because this translation, to me, was awkward.
