First off, I loved the artwork! I had an ARC so I only had a little bit of the full color artwork, but from what I saw, it is amazing. The artwork gave the book a really cozy and autumn feel, which matched the entire vibe of the book.
I also loved the representation. Nova is queer, Chinese American, hard-of-hearing, and has two grandmothers who are in a relationship with each other. Tam is non-binary and also Chinese American. I loved how all of these elements were incorporated into the story. For example, Nova’s hearing aids get talked about a lot throughout the book.

The supporting characters were great as well. Nova’s friend, Tatyana, was awesome and I loved their friendship. Another standout was Nova’s cousin Terry (if you’ve read the book, you’ll know why).
Also the bookshop/cafe that Nova’s grandmothers own is the cutest thing ever, especially the special room dedicated to the witchy books.
The storyline is fairly simple but it worked. This is just a feel good graphic novel and a straight forward plot was exactly what it needed.
Overall, this is the perfect fall/Halloween read!...more

I liked how clever this volume was. The choose your own adventure comic was so much fun. Plus, Doreen’s foray into online dating was so relatable. I loved how the last comic gave us a (totally not boring) computer science lesson.
I decided to read this after hearing it was going to be made into a TV show on the CW.

I loved the whole vibe of this. I liked that it was set in the 1960’s and the artwork matched perfectly. It had the right blend of vintage throwback and horror.
As for the story, I liked the darker take on Sabrina. The first couple of issues had a lot of backstory, but once it got to main plot I was hooked.
Overall, this was a fantastic spooky read. I cannot wait for the show. ...more

It had so many references to the ride, including some of the exact same lines. I liked how the bad guy was a pirate ghost because Pirates of the Caribbean is also located in New Orleans Square at Disneyland. Overall, a must have for fans of the classic ride.
Side Note: The book without the dust cover is absolutely stunning! ...more

I honestly know very little about Cyborg since I’m more of a Marvel fan than a DC fan. Because of this, there were some characters who I did not know and it took me a bit to understand the backstory.
That being said, it was a fun, entertaining comic. There were some parts of the plot that were confusing but I managed to understand most of it.

I had won a Cyborg comic from DC via Goodreads' giveaways but they accidentally sent me this book. I was actually pretty happy getting this book because it's written by Gene Luen Yang, who is an Asian American. I love supporting my fellow Asians.
I didn't know what to expect from this. The only volume of comics I've read is Squirrel Girl, and needless to say her comics are in a league of her own. For some reason I was expecting this to be super serious like the DC movies are, but thank goodness this wasn't.
I really liked this. It was entertaining and kept me engaged throughout. It felt like I was watching a Superman movie. There was a ton of action and parts of it were funny (although not laugh out loud funny like Squirrel Girl). I also enjoyed seeing Batman and the rest of the Justice League in the first comic. Overall, a great comic collection. ...more
