It's interesting to hear Beatles stories through the lens of George. He was their champion, confidant and protector before and after the breakup. There is also considerable talk about his post-Beatles work, including groups like America, UFO, and Cheap Trick. I found this section very interesting as well as the tale of his AIR studios. This is a must read for any Beatles fan, and if you are a Beatles fan, then you're a George Martin fan. Kenneth Womack has done a great job here.

It's been many years since I've read it, but I must say this book is well written, carefully put together, and scary as hell. The Mason family story is depressing and violent and gruesome, and Bugliosi makes all of this painfully clear. This book literally gave me nightmares, but I do believe it's a must read for those who want to know exactly what happened and why. Manson himself was a hopeless music hanger-on, looking for producer Terry Melcher when he sent his family to the Tate residence. It's all so sad, but it is an absolutely riveting read.

The commitment of 'Lips' Kudlow and Robb Reiner to becoming the best thrash-speed metal band they can be is quite astounding the book describes their struggles, and struggles, and struggles. Finally they break through via the acclaimed documentary, and are recognized as a great influence on bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Overkill, Guns & Roses et al. Again, plenty of nasty on the road stories, but you do get the impression that these guys aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. Rock on!

No sloganeering here, just heartfelt songs about true love and the lack of it. Anyone who could write a lyric like "You Say You Don't Love Me" or "Fiction Romance" is a true artist and innovator. His lyrics have always had a great impact on me. A must for any lyric writer or Buzzcocks fan.

He seems like a nice kind of every man guy, and it's an interesting if not too deeply delved into story. I would definitely recommend it to any Black Flag fans.

Being a sound engineer and recording engineer, I love the way the book carefully complies all the meticulous notes from EMI (Abbey Road) studios of almost every minute of music the Beatles recorded. Mark Lewisohn is thorough in his reporting and even had access to outtakes never before heard. The hows and whys of the music are answered, from the use of a Leslie revolving speaker on vocals (Tomorrow Never Knows) to the great two-versions-spliced together and vari-speeded story (Strawberry Fields Forever) to the cutting up and throwing bits of a calliope recording around and splicing them back together (Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite). If you want to know how the Beatles recorded and arranged their music, this is the book for you. I've read it at least five times, and always learn something new.

It's a sad story but offers great insight on Ian Curtis' life from someone who truly loved him. It's well written and quite...a downer. Falling in love with another woman while Deborah was pregnant with their first child was a sad thing. Still, any fan of Ian or Joy Division will consider thus a must-read, and a great step-off to Anton Corbjn's stellar biopic 'Control' based on this book. Love will tear us apart.

He meets his polar opposite in a sensitive and self-sacrificing tween boy. The story climaxes with a musical performance. While High Fidelity is plainly a musical novel, About A Boy turns on music as well. ...more
