** I received a free copy of Death Of A Fixer Upper in return for my honest review as a part of House Party's Chatterbox program. Al opinions are my own. ** I have to say that the book cover really caught my eye. I think it really adds to the mystery and sort of reminds me of fairy tale books I had as a kid. (Which are also interesting because the covers sometimes seem to reflect a more happy and jolly story, rather than a mystery or suspense story.) That's the case with this book. I agree this book is very fast paced and held my attention well! I did have a slight issue with sometimes having to reread a few sentences back just to remind myself of which characters were who and where. (There are a lot of characters!) I do feel that a few less would have helped a little bit. (Maybe there is something I'm missing, but, a couple of books in a series would be great and maybe introduce a few characters at a time.) I do feel that this would be a great series! I don't know what I think about the main character, Sam. I think she was portrayed well, I am just not digging Sam's style but, that's my opinion and certainly shouldn't take from the book. Personally, I found parts of Sam's hectic, strange life, very familiar, and I know a couple of people who are similar to Sam. She is an interesting character, just not fascinating. I also like how the author uses adjectives and describes scenes. I think she did a wonderful job there! In some places, it starts to get irritating because it seems to be to many descriptions. (For instance, the icky smell in the bathroom in the beginning.) But, one of my favorite authors, Clive Barker, sometimes takes pages and pages, just to describe one thing. I find a lot of his books to be very hard to read because of how he dwells on abstract things for so long. This author isn't nearly as overly detailed as him! (That's a compliment by the way!) She does a fine job painting the pictures in your mind, of every single scene and character, so, that's a plus also! The story itself is original and holds your interest. However, it's a very fast read and one of those books that you read on a sunny Saturday afternoon outside. It doesn't take up all of your attention and if you have to put it back down, (because of kids chatting your ears off!), it will just take a second to get back where you were. I enjoy these kinds of books even though I really love books that are a little more in depth. I think of the difference as a television sitcom as compared to a documentary and this book of a sitcom. I think the story and the author's writing style are fabulous and I love the level of expertise the author has with real estate. Having experience or legitimate research in a career or in the character is one of the ways a book gets a lot of good review. Sarah Hobart does really well with forming a good story, delivering some very unexpected twists, and helping you to see everything play out in your mind. These are the reasons I am giving this book 4 stars ...more |

This is such an interesting little book, to short in my eyes, but then again, it's done this way for a reason. The next book just can't come fast enough as a matter of fact! I am getting a bit antsy, awaiting the arrival of the next, so that I can see what Zaydee, (or Pipi Longstocking or Princess Jane Doe) will be conjuring up next. I think it's a bit hard to give anything but a 5 star review for, That Girl Started Her Own Country, or any of The Holy Ghost Writer's other books, just yet, as they are all a part of a fascinating story that I really believe, once unfolded, will be definitely a set of stories, possibly all real and true, that will not be forgotten for several generations to come. I can't figure out how some can say they are giving a bad review, based on the fact that this book doesn't pick up where the 1st one left off. I was under the impression that as this may be book 2 in order of release, it is not necessarily book 2 in the series, but rather book 6. So,this would indeed explain some of those statements or reviews. I have also read that this book is to short, (I agree, but it doesn't take away from the exceptional storytelling, or the brilliant way this story is laid out and jumps right to excitement and throws you into an adventure that will make you think for a few seconds, if you're snapped out of the adrenaline laced pages, sorta like one of those, more real then real dreams.) I have to admit, yes, I was a little annoyed that it ended where it did, but it had to end somewhere right? All the more reason to check back for book 7... It isn't to often that you read about some of the things that are in this book. At least it isn't to much mainstream, and of course, this in turn may bring some people to just disregard the big picture that will be coming about inside these books, which is a shame. Not that I'm a conspiracy theorist, but I have read up on practically everything that is mentioned in this book, and for several years. The Bilderberger's, Skull and Bones, all a major mystery in itself, (a frightening mystery nonetheless), and then the mention of Anonymous. If you are not familiar with these names, please read up on them, and please also try your best to gather the appropriate information. The internet and information is everywhere, therefore, so are plenty of lies and rumors. I believe if you are informed and aware of these names, well, then, this book will really have you sitting on the edge of your seat! Why? Because, why would they be included? Why would an author choose to write about such "off the wall" things like the Bilderberger's, and take that chance of losing some fans, or not gaining any when some people who don't fully understand or know much about these people, groups, etc, and the reader then chooses to just put this book down and walk away. (Because it is something they don't understand). Why would this book come out next? Is there a specific reason for the second book to come out, while it is book 6? Why are they not in order? What is the importance of this story, it must be something since books 2, 3, 4, and 5 have been skipped. Is there something going on in the world as we read this book, that goes along with something that is written in these pages? The fact that these books, (Zeddy's book is book 11 out of 12), so, we have books 1, 6, and 11. What is the pattern here, and is there a reason at all? Is it really as another reviewer stated, to keep the buzz going in the coffee shops? Am I reading to much into this? Is there no rhyme or reason here.... I don't know why, but I think there is a reason they are being released in an odd order, and it does make all the more, enchanting, I think is the word I'd like to use here. Maybe it is simply due to the fact that somebody might possibly figure this out and make a correct guess on the identity of the author if indeed we were reading, book 1, then 2, then 3, etc. There are so many mysteries going on in this series, each book in it's own, each character in themselves, the author is a mystery, the storyline is a mystery, the order they are released is a mystery, and they apparently, ( because, The Boy Who Played With Dark Matter... The Secret Adventures of Zeddy, take place in 2099.), cover a very large time span. In, That Girl Started Her Own Country, we meet up with a peculiar, "international playgirl", Zaydee. (another strange name, just as Zeddy is just a little different and not a very familiar name), and in the short time the author takes to introduce, Zaydee, and give us details on who she is, where she is, and what's going on, you will, almost immediately, begin to cheer for her. Zaydee is an internet hacker, who is in love with an investigative journalist, who she believes is in trouble and creates an elaborate scam to help protect him. ( Oh, I forgot to mention he is writing about the Bildeberger family/group). Zaydee ends up in prison, and neither the media, the FBI, or the judge, her "attorney", or anybody, knows her true identity. This book follows Zaydee through prison, and a couple court scenes, and the author introduces more characters in the story, as well as a lot more uncanny mysteries that leaves us, the reader, guessing and wondering what will be happening next. You can guess and think of your own versions, until the next book arrives, but the strangest part is when the author starts to explain the twists and relationship with Zaydee, and book 6, to book 1. (All the way through to the Skull and Bones, the secret society mentioned a couple times at the beginning of, That Girl Started Her Own Country. This book is one of those books that you are so pleased with and so thankful that you had the chance to read it, you wish to thank the author. Unless I am the only one who does this with music and books and even some movies, I don't know. But it is also a book you can read on your Kindle, sure, but some books are better when you have a real copy. (This is one of those I have to take the time and grab in paperback) There was really only one issue I had with this book, which isn't necessarily a big deal at all. But it was mentioned about a character in the story being a member of, Anonymous, and joining them. Anonymous actually doesn't have members, and you can not join them. Everyone is Anonymous and anybody can be involved with any operations they come across online that another Anon or group has created. I will be sitting here anxiously awaiting the next book that comes out in this peculiar but yet intriguing series. Trust me, with each book, the anticipation grows, and wow, by the way, have you read, The Boy Who Played With Dark Matter? ...more |

I fell in love with this author's previous book, Deathloop, and anxiously waited, and waited for another novel, and here it is! I am impressed and more then satisfied with, It Wasn't Me, and now I have to wonder, can either of these books be topped by hopefully another new one? (hint:) It is so rare that I find an author with such a twisted mind, (that is a compliment by the way). G. Brailey, takes us on some frightening adventures through the eyes of a young girl who is bullied by a few classmates, and all I really have to say about this story and the insanity at the end, is WOW! This is the type of story you wish were longer, and more then 90 pages, because there could have been so much more added to this! This is a brilliant look into the mind of a young girl, Ruth, who is simply sick and tired of being bullied, made fun of, and treated unfairly by classmates, and a kind of sort of boyfriend, Jake, and his other girlfriend, Fiona. Ruth's mother passed away, and she lived with her father and her step mom, Evelyn. Evelyn and Ruth didn't get along to well, So, when Ruth's father found a school for her to attend that was extremely isolated, and pretty far away from her father. She blamed Evelyn for this and realized that along with losing her mother, she had lost her father now as well. Ruth didn't have to many friends at her new school, but she did come across a friend named, Jennifer, who was a bit odd but she did enjoy talking with her and hanging out. Jennifer was actually, Jennifer Rose Carr, a spirit that Ruth and a couple other girls had come across during a seance. So, she did find that to be very weird since she had the same exact name, Towards the end, some horrifying events take place, and I can't let you in on what exactly happens, just know that this book is going in one direction on the pages you're reading, and then just like that, it takes you under, and into some of the most frightening events, you most likely won't see coming. Very clever on the author's part, very original twist, and detailed in such a way it appears to just be second nature as if it were the norm. (That's one of my favorite things about G. Brailey) The only "complaint" I have with this is that I wish it would be longer, it is such a good story, and takes you to a few terrifying places not many take you, and it ends much to soon. I can see why it ends to soon, but I'm hoping for a 2nd, this opens up so many doors, and actually, the last few pages pens up a whole other place the author could have taken us. I wished so much I would go back 10 pages and start over from there and maybe, magically, another 100 pages or more would have popped up! (lol) But it didn't, and again, that is ok, as I believe this was simply just written to be this way. I just want the author to know that with a mind like this, and such a fascinating storyline, this could have or could still, branched/branch off into many more, maybe in like a series of sort? Either way, the only other thing that was at least to me, a bit unnecessary, would be at the end when Ruth, explains a bit of what was happening and what somebody at the end pointed out to her. (again, I can't spoil this, because this would tell all!), but it would have been cool to have the reader figure this out on their own, I would like to think most would have figured this out, but I'm not so sure anymore. Which is maybe why the author added that in, so it wasn't misunderstood? Either way, this is an exceptional story, very well written, and on a level of 1 to 10 on shock level, I would give this a 15! ...more |

The first thing that makes this book stand out ahead of the giant stack we have to review, and many others, are the vibrant, super colorful pages and beautifully detailed characters. This caught Deegan's eyes especially and we have read and re read this book so many times now that I know it word for word. This is just one book in a series of Hugo the Starfish children's books, and it is the perfect pick for your child's first Hugo book. It is easy to follow, and will keep a busy 2 year olds attention! Deegan's favorite picture was when Hugo was when Hugo is wearing a backpack lol, he thinks cartoons with backpacks are hilarious. But he also enjoyed repeating words, especially the word, happy. In this story, Hugo tries and tries and tries to find happiness. He asks his friend, Magic Manta, to help him find happiness. So, Magic Manta helps grant Hugo's wishes, but the happiness never lasts for to long. Hugo keeps becoming sad again and finds, Magic Manta, so he can ask for more happiness. Hugo tries many things like, spending time with a friend, which did bring him some happiness, but it didn't last forever. He also found a treasure and bought everything he ever wanted, and had a big house, filled with all of his new things. But, he couldn't stay happy. ( I thought this particular part was an excellent addition to this story and the lesson taught! I often think about how money can not ever buy you everything you want and need, and we try our best to teach this to our children. Many people believe that their problems will all be answered if they just had enough money, a big house, and many things, but in the end, they are going to find that money really can not buy happiness.) This is a lesson that even grown ups need to learn and this was certainly a good time to discuss this again with all of the little ones. Hugo comes back to his buddy, Magic manta, and is even more sad, even though he is driving his fancy new car. He tells, Magic Manta, that he is a hopeless case. But, Manta immediately tells Hugo that he doesn't think so, and tells him it is simple to be happy and to share with others! So Hugo starts to understand the meaning behind happiness and how to feel truly happy and decides to share his heart with others. Genevive loved this part of the story because Hugo's heart ended up being so happy that it did somersaults! lol! Genevive explained that that's what her heart does when she is the happiest little girl in the world! Hugo the starfish is a regular length children's book, but this book has brought so many discussions up with our children, new ones each time! It is so much fun to be able to sit with the kiddos and have them chime in about what happiness is to them, and what makes them happy. That is what makes me the happiest:) We would recommend this book to all families and for many reasons! Of course all that I pointed out above, and because this is 1 in a series of Hugo books, that all discuss different feelings, life skills and valuable lessons of character, attitude empathy, choices, consequences, and it is a very clever way to start teaching a 2nd language! Suzy Liebermann, launched happy Language Kids Publications in 2010, as an interactive language program for children and even grown ups. This program is particularly aligned with the aims and values she upheld as a teacher of cultural art and and foreign language at a prestigious International Baccalaureate World School. Suzy and Hugo have a super fun website where you can find free games and worksheets and news about Hugo, Suzy and all of the rest of the stories in the Hugo series. You can also find some neat information about the author and the visiting author program. (Oh and Deegan's favorite Hugo Youtube video can also be found on the home page;) We have had a lot of fun with this book and website, and I certainly appreciate the benefit of Suzy's books and ideas she shares to help our little ones become confident, happy, sweet little human beings! This is always something I admire in authors and teachers, and people who go out of their way to help our jobs as moms and dads, just a little bit easier! ** We received a copy of this book in return for our honest review ** ...more |

I like the title, it covers almost everything that you will find in this book. This is an excellent book for people who are looking for ideas, just sta I like the title, it covers almost everything that you will find in this book. This is an excellent book for people who are looking for ideas, just starting out in the work from home, stay at home, scene, and not just for moms either. Carolyn covers pretty much everything from where to come up with extra money when times get tough, to where to possibly grab some extra money, to long term opportunity ideas you may not of thought of and could definitely benefit from. I also loved the addition of her personal charts and graphs on how to better keep lists, and budgets. (You know me, lol, I love lists and any charts, graphs or ideas that make my life and business easier!) The personal stories and thoughts that she adds in with each section makes it as though you are talking to a friend, rather then just reading a "how to" manual. (She is also a busy mom of 4, so who knows better then a fellow busy mom;) Brainstorming is great and when you find yourself in the position where you may have to earn some extra money somehow, or you quickly need money, a friend, or Carolyn's book, is a definite must have! I'm sure some of the ideas most of us have already done, thought of or tried, but there is always the "newbies" out there, of any age, as well as sometimes when stressed, the rest of us need a good, back to earth moment. This is a handy little guide to keep at home for some pointers. Although I have to point out there are a couple things I have tried or currently do, that were not mentioned in this book, that have worked well for me. She is a mom herself, and she made me think of several more ways to earn some extra cash. A couple years ago I was trying to gather ideas for a blog post about how to earn money for groceries, shopping, holidays, and school clothes, when you don't have internet access, or minimal internet access. I never got very far with that one, although I had some of my own brilliant ideas, I didn't have anybody else come up with anything, and I wish I would have known about Carolyn. (or that her book had come out a couple years ago, so I could've just referred my readers!) It is especially hard for me to earn extra money from home, I am partially disabled, and have 3 small kids at home. (our oldest is grown up now and is a mommy herself!) but we also live in the middle of nowhere, so a lot of people's ideas for how to earn extra cash doesn't always fit somebody like me to well. But Carolyn does touch on almost every possible outlet and you can add or delete and come up with your own clever ways to make a profit! I do work pt outside of our home, (I usually joke and say this is because I need a break from the little ones! lol!) But I don't earn enough to cover our gigantic expenses!! Yes, my husband works, we actually have our own trucking business, with 1 employee... him! But we also pay our own repairs, fuel, taxes, tags, insurances, it's endless and costs a hundred times more then a regular vehicle. So, I am endlessly online, trying to find what fits my family best. I have been doing this for almost 7 years now, and have learned the hard way many times!! I also agree with Carolyn's time and money saving ideas, and didn't ever think of some of them myself, so I certainly learned something from her book. I do have to add however, that I have been using coupons for several years, and I do keep a log of each shopping trip, each store, amount, what I saved, how much do I get back (ie: rewards, Extrabucks, Up Rewards, Catalinas, etc), and how much was spent per item. Now, this may seem like it takes forever to collect, sort, cut and scour the ads each week, and run everywhere, and it can, sure. But there are weeks, I "take off" and not bother, and there are weeks where it is very minimal. I do save an enormous amount of money with coupons, and depending on the store, I won't spend 50 cents per item. (The highest I will go is $1 per item) Otherwise, it isn't worth my time. Of course there are things like produce, meat, milk, dairy, deli, that are super high, but if I clump it all together and some of my free groceries cover some of the high priced items, I'm happy;) I could go on and on about coupons but there is so much mis information out there since these ridiculous shows started on the television. I am always sad to see how people have been misled and how people have given up on something that can actually make you money if you play your cards right! (WalMart will pay overages and CVS and Rite Aid will in fact give you $10 in rewards to use on anything in their store, regardless of how much you just saved in coupons.) So, there are sporatic money makers as well as a LOT to be saved. Back to the book;) Carolyn has tried so many things and will let you know what has worked, what hasn't worked and what to look for and what to expect. I love the way she took this project on, and I admire her honesty. You can trust her as she explains how she handled things and how she came up with the ideas. You will really end up learning something and thinking, "Wow! Why didn't I think of that??", when you are finished with her book. ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

I am more then satisfied with, Your Daily Bible Verse, by Rachelle Ayala. It fits perfectly on my night stand, or sometimes it comes with me in my bag or even my backpack. This is well thought out, and would make such a great gift! Not to mention, it is wonderful to have these close by for us to use each morning, kids included. I especially like the back pages where she gives some very easy steps on how to memorize a Bible Verse. She makes it seem so easy even when I always found this to be a little complicated. I can memorize numbers, lol, I have phone numbers, loan numbers, account numbers, credit card numbers, some from several years ago that aren't even active any longer, but for some reason, memorizing script has always been an issue with me. Although, since using Rachelle's Bible Memorization Tips, I have to say this has helped tremendously! I really appreciate the effort she put into this and she has helped make this a new tradition in our home with the little ones. They actually ask each morning, "What is our verse of the day mommy?" It adds a lot of breakfast discussion too. We have already read through, Your Daily Bible Verse, and I am pleased with the verses the author chose to include in our daily discussions and memorizations. There are so many beautiful verses in the Bible and you can find 366 of them here. Another good point about this book, is that again, this would make a great gift for practically anybody, but it will be used and re read again and again and again and again. I do have the paperback edition, but even the Kindle would be great (which by the way it is free today January 7, 2013), so if you need a copy, I would pick it up asap. The other thing my family had fun with, was looking up our birthdays to see the verses that are listed. These are also special because they are like our own verses, and each of the kids, (with the exception of our not so talkative talking 2 year old, Deegan), has memorized. Deegan is working on it, lol, but he does love sitting together at the kitchen table with his cereal, siblings and whatever toys he brings to the table, and listening and contributing to our now, new morning talks. ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

Roberta Kagan has proven yet again, to be a brilliant author, and historian. I haven't read all of her books yet, but I am planning on it, as she does seem to be ending up as one of my favorite authors. The Heart of the Gypsy, is truly a masterpiece. I actually read this twice and also did some research, because this is a topic I don't see to much and I don't really think a lot of people realize that the Gypsies were involved, or treated the way they were. This book takes place during WW2, in Nazi controlled Europe. There is a lot of this war that we aren't taught in school, and a lot we don't know much about, (unless of course you studied this time or place, a historian) There were Resistance bands across Europe, and these were the people who formed groups of people of different nationalities, and lived in the forests. They were a very well organized group of resistors, or partisans, who were able to survive from the land and each other. Of course they had many a horrific fight, travel, victims who came and stumbled upon their hideaways, but for the most part, they managed to survive, had plentiful food, and were very strategically placed throughout their tents and groups. They had everybody that would be needed to create their own communities and had some highly intelligent tactics and ways and means of getting enough food, (for example, sending people out to different areas for their ration cards), and even had guns, ammunition, doctors, and Christian, who was of Aryan race. Christian, came to them to help, however he was injured with broken ribs. He was well taken care of by Nadya, a young Gypsy girl, and her brother, Ion. (Nadya and Ion's family were imprisoned by the Nazi's.) This is a remarkable book, with plenty of history, lots of fascinating scenes, characters, and terrifying events. It isn't as much just a history book, as the author very cleverly, wove a beautiful story of romance and passion throughout the pages. I am a big fan of history books, and this one was especially a pleasure to read because my own ancestors are of Gypsy descent. Unfortunately, I only actually ever met a couple great grandparents who arrived in our country shortly after this was began. But this is something my mom always discusses and tells me about the different family members and our history and I am proud of who we are and where we originated from. The Heart of a Gypsy, has now entered my top 10 favorite books of all time list. I read this book over as soon as I was done with it the first time around because I was sad when it ended. I would recommend Roberta Kagan's books to anybody who enjoys a good history book, a well written novel, (they are a little longer then some may expect but I find that her books are just the right length.) and for anybody who desires a good romance novel, although this isn't your typical, gushy, romance book. ...more |

I am always anxious to read and review a book when it is also the authors debut novel. I think these are the most exciting, and I especially love meeting the author, and being able to catch a glimpse of what might be coming in the future. M. Garzon's , Blaze of Glory, is no exception to my geeky anticipation with debuts. This is a very well thought out story, it's written as if it's just second nature to this author, and the descriptions, characters, and especially the horses. I personally have no experience with horses, but she has created some very beautiful personalities for them in this book, and just like you will get to know the other characters as if you knew them all their lives, you will also feel the same about the horses in this book. Tea, is a 17 year old who has a twin brother, Seth. Since their mother passed away, their step father, who is pretty strict with both of them, but, tries to do what is best in his eyes, continues to raise them. Dec, (their step father) has a nephew, Jaden. Jaden is 6 years older then Tea, and a polo player, and comes back to Canada after a few years of traveling and playing polo. Of course, you can say Tea and Jaden are first cousins, however it isn't by blood, which leads me to the next part about when Tea and Jaden fall in love. I know this could possibly turn some people away, however, this isn't the first time this has happened, and again, it isn't by blood, so, I guess the reader should be the "judge" of that. Tea and Seth have an incredible bond, and are the best of friends. I like their relationship, and think it is well thought out and just as I would wish or hope or want for my own children's relationships to be. Although Seth, loves his twin sister to pieces, he is a bit worried about her "forbidden love" for their cousin, Jaden. Again, another regular brotherly thing to do. Especially under these circumstances. I also like Seth because he isn't scolding or showing disappointment, because he accepts his sister and loves her just for being her, he is more concerned about how this relationship with Jaden, will affect her life. Although both Tea's and Seth's lives have had it's ups and downs and more then their fair share of bad luck and sadness, they are both very strong 17 year olds. Mainly Tea, who is quite stubborn and headstrong, but even if these qualities are sometimes seen as a fault, I have always thought that it depends on how you use these qualities, which is then considered, in my eyes, (and maybe because I am very similar), an asset, therefore, I do appreciate Tea's character a lot. She has the same type of "assets" that I see in my own 2 daughters and along with this usually comes good values, morals and respect. Of course what comes next would be the growing closeness and love between Jaden and Tea. I would recommend that even if you are thinking, "omg!" or " I wouldn't want my daughters reading this!", I would read it first myself. M. Garzon, does a tremendous job with such an intricate subject and it isn't poorly written, and it is done so tastefully that you will end up cheering and filled with joy for Jaden and Tea. I don't personally believe that every 17 year old girl who reads this book, will then turn around and think it is ok to have sex, just because everybody else is, or have sex with their cousins. That being said, you should be the judge, and if you feel your teen isn't going to have a problem and change her ways due to what she has read, then she should be just fine. There are many, many, many things out there that we wish we could shelter our children from, and you know, it isn't going to happen. It is always there, and they will find it, read it, see it, hear it. If they have a brain, they can think for themselves and they will know right from wrong, or they will learn to accept some things that aren't as "normal" as society says. I would not recommend this book for a pre teen and depending on maturity, maybe not even 14 or 15. But again, parents should be involved in their children's lives and if you read it, and have no issues, it is fine. I have 4 kids of my own, 2 daughters, and we did try as parents to shelter our children, and we still do. The biggest culprit, television. I would much rather they read a book then watched TV. and this book isn't going to scar them. ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

This book is such a meticulously crafted travel back in time, and certainly will not be a book that is forgotten. This is one you will want an actual copy of, so you can come back to it, and read again and again, it is detailed and researched so well, I got lost so many times in this story, and honestly, didn't want to come back some of the time. I am kind of at a loss of words for this review, I am more then impressed with David LeRoy's debut novel, and I am more then anxious to read any news of another book coming soon. If you enjoy history books, this will definitely exceed all of your expectations! Reading it is more like a very vivid dream, then just a book, and I found myself checking how many pages were left several times, not because I wanted it to be over, but because of the exact opposite. I was horribly sad when it ended. That being said, I would not recommend starting this book when you have a to do list, errands or anything else that will interrupt this painfully amazing journey back in time. Otherwise, you will keep people and your list waiting. Marc Tolbert, is the main character in this novel, you get to know him beginning with his funeral. In 1939, Marc was 20 years old, and was on his way to medical school until he decided to go back to Paris, to attend art school. 1939 of course, was a most terrifying time, and Marc chooses to ignore all of the signs that the world, including Paris, (France) are on the brink of a devastating world war. The author goes into explicit detail, bringing all of the actual historical events and figures into play, as we relive his past with him. As disgusting as a time as this is, David LeRoy, manages to carefully articulate a story of spirituality with this book. He doesn't leave anything out of this story, and there will be times you will cringe at the events taking place on the pages, and yet, at the same time, you will be re living a time in history, as though you were really there or at the least, watching a movie. You will be with Marc, as he tries to escape France, spends time in concentration camps, and witnesses the people and children trying to leave the country. Of course he also falls in love in this story, and with that, comes betrayal. When Marc dies, he doesn't get to pass into eternal peace, until he answers one question successfully. This is of course a very emotional book, and again, I can't stress enough how brilliant of a job this author did with captivating the reader, pulling the reader in from page 1. You will find it a tad bit hard to just let go of this book, and I feel I must stress that this book may not be for everyone. (Although, David LeRoy is able to use his creativity and imagination to turn something so grotesque, into a story that will draw in many different types of readers.) ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

So far, I have to say, Rachelle Ayala, is a very well rounded author who seems to be able to write many different styles her own. It is almost magical, maybe mystical, the way she can intertwine a few different "types" or genres, into one book. ( Michal's Window, was another one like Broken Build. 2 different books, 2 completely different stories and characters) yet somehow, they end up being the, Rachelle Ayala, genre. If you have read either of these books, you know what I'm talking about. Ok, so enough gushing over this author, lol, I just haven't read such fascinating books like this in a long time. Not that Rachelle Ayala is a V C Andrews or a Roland Dahl, but I remember those books when I was younger, as being fascinating books I would have given my pinky finger to sit up and finish that night. It's the same way with Rachelle's books. Broken Build is about, Jen Jones, who has some dark secrets in her past. Jen changes her appearance in hopes of a fresh start at life. Jen Jones, (or Jennifer Cruz), has a past with David Jewell, a software CEO, who she takes on a job with. David doesn't recognize her, he hasn't seen her for 6 years, but there comes a time when he will find out who she is, and this ends up threatening their relationship. Together the 2 have to rescue David's daughter, who is believed to be with his dead wife's family. This story starts right from the first chapter and Rachelle, doesn't miss a beat! I wasn't super surprised, that this author would outdo herself yet again. Simply because, Michal's Window was such a shockingly good story that was filled with romance, betrayal, and heart pumping suspense. But I was very, very impressed. Rachelle's knowledge and computer savvyness adds so much to this suspense, mystery, thriller, techno thriller, romance novel. Just like her genuine love for writing comes through each description, each character and each page of her books, Broken Build will hit you full force with Rachelle's meticulous style, you will be counting down the days until her new novel comes out in 2013!! I should warn readers a little bit about this book. As I stated previously, I loved Broken Build!! However, this may not be suitable for everybody, as there will be some scenes that some may not find appropriate and there may also be some language that some do not find suitable. There is a lot of computer "lingo" in this story as well, which may be a bit hard to grasp. But, Rachelle, does do a fine job describing in great detail what these words, and phrases mean. ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

I really enjoyed the author's styl This is a very impressive story, especially for being such a short story, I have to say I didn't expect what I read. I really enjoyed the author's style of writing, and the fact that there weren't any boring parts of this story and there definitely isn't any part that makes you yawn or think about setting this book down! Which to me, is rare, seeing that the author only has so many pages, and yet was able to convey some very interesting characters, an original plot and an unexpected ending. Of course I wouldn't personally do what the main character of the story did, or planned, but there are people like this out there. Allison, made the story all the more unusually good. I am a fan of psychological thrillers and off the wall and out of the ordinary books, and well, pretty much everything, lol. So, this was a hidden little treasure of a book in my recent stack and I would love to read more from this author! I think a few more short stories would be excellent. I have always been a big fan of V.C Andrews and this story and this author, reminded me of her books. Her writing style is clever, very inviting, and she doesn't wait for a few chapters to start the actual plot. It starts right from the first page. Allison, and Rick, are also 2 unique characters, which brings me to the next reason I would compare this author to early V C Andrews, is because the characters are always intriguing, mysterious, and described very well. Even if they are not necessarily a person we know personally, or a person we can relate too. I believe that the great lengths Allison, went to , in order to pay back the person she loved, were very vividly detailed and made the book all the more mysterious. I have to disagree about the ending of the story, according to other reviewers. I actually thought it fit very well! I didn't expect it, not in the least, and it was a shocking surprise to me. Short stories say a lot about an author. It's kind of like, Twitter. It really is hard to try and get story, or something you want to say, out, explained, understood, and interesting, all at the same time, but be able to capture all of this in a very limited amount of pages, or characters. I would love to read more stories like this one, and be introduced to more characters this author has in mind. It would be very cool if in the near future, she would release a book of short stories, and/or a mini series. I recommend this book to anybody who loves short psychological thrillers, romance with a twist, and fast paced books. ** I was given a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

I was more then pleased with this book. It isn't very often that a book with less then 20 pages, that isn't a children's book, really grabs my attention and ends up being one of the most original stories I ever read. My only complaint would be that I would love an actual mini series or possibly a new book with a lot more pages! This has a lot of potential to be a super mystery, detective, science fiction, and everything in between, novel. It amazes me that this author was able to create such a unique story, (this is something you don't see so often anymore), and introduce so many characters, give short descriptions of backgrounds, the plot, thoroughly explain what is happening, answer your questions, and deliver such a magnificent ending, in less then 20 pages. Of course I understand the reason behind the short story, after all, it is a short story, but inside, I am wondering or maybe it's more along the lines of hoping, that this was released to see what we would think and that maybe there is a best seller coming our way in a year... hint hint!! I am a big horror, action, science fiction, creepy, mystery, crime, fan, and I read and watch a ton in this genre. This is truly something that had me on edge and dreading the little arrows on the bottom of the screen when I saw I hit the double digits. I agree with the reviewer who stated that, The Unfinished, reminded them of, The Twilight Zone. I have seen every Rod Serling story, at least 20 times each and still record them on my DVR, lol. The Unfinished would be an episode he would be proud of. I recommend this book to all scifi fans, any fans of The Twilight Zone, and please, if we get enough people to read and post their thoughts, maybe we can persuade the author to give us more! ...more |

I am an I love action adventure and true crime books, any suspense, mystery, thrillers, all my favorites! The Dalerian Conspiracy, is all of the above! I am anxious to read the next few books in this series, and after checking out all of the other titles by Arno Joubert, I intend on reading many more of his books. You can find his titles and buy on Amazon, and you can check out his website for more information. I only have one complaint, and that would be that this specific book was to short, however, there are other books that go along with this one, so I can't say that just yet. Especially since I haven't read them and the price is right, $1.49 for this kindle edition. The writing itself is straight to the point, excellent use of adjectives, descriptions, he does not go overboard and the story starts almost immediately after the first few sentences. Which is another reason the length didn't upset me to much. Arno doesn't waste time, and each page will take you further and further into the twisted and insane life of, Alexis Guerra, an assassin who was basically forced into hunting the people who are hunting her. A military espionage thriller is what the description of the book says, and that does about sum it up. there are explosions, suicides, double crossing and assassinations, which all make for a fascinating story. The characters are well thought out and the author introduces them all in a "nonchalant" way, this is another reason I had to give it a good rating. Everybody fits perfectly in the story and you don't have to sift through pages and pages of boredom and forgetting what you are reading and who you are reading about. There is a computer programmer, Zachary Cohen, (and hacker) in the story, (I love that) Of course, hacking into Government computers and finding all kinds of secrets and then putting his own life on the line, as well as his wife and daughters. Bruce Bryden, a Mossad Operative, and Neil Allen, a disgraced ex Marine, also have interesting roles in this story of assassins and corrupt Government and of course, money. You can read more about, Arno Joubert on his website, [...] as well as read some excerpts of his books!! ...more |

I have to start out by saying that this is in no way a book for the faint of heart, anybody who can not stomach true horror, at it's worse, should definitely not read this book. If you are a CSI, or Law and Order fan, or any other type of true crime, or law shows, movies, or books, or law and The United States justice system, this is a book you will not forget. Burke E Strunsky, is a senior deputy district attorney, in California, who has witnessed an actual crime, and has seen inside the horrific minds of mankind. On every level. I believe that if I were to take up a career as a criminal attorney, and I read this book, I may be thinking twice about my choices. Burke, takes you deep down in the sick and twisted lives and crimes of some of the most despicable acts known to man. There are some certain warnings you should heed before picking up this book. Mainly the fact that most of the heinous crimes involve children, and since Burke E Strunsky has been in the courtroom and witnessed these first hand, you will be reading first hand accounts and he doesn't seem to leave much detail out. A lot of this may tend to be unsettling, however, the purpose of this book isn't to necessarily make you ill, as it is to make you aware of our justice system, and how "humanlike" it really is, hence, not being perfect. Along with lots of footnotes, (my favorite!), and facts and the author's experience, there is lot to learn from this book, a lot to take in, so it will not be one of those, "read in a couple hours" type of books. It is written very, very well, to well I thought at some times. But, then I just reminded myself that the author is an attorney and is very well versed in this type of genre. We see so many criminal cases in the news, attorneys that we sometimes might tend to wonder, "What in the world ever possessed them to take such a case??" Even though we know deep down, somebody has to do it. But while reading this book, I realized that this courageous attorney actually gets several things accomplished. One of which, at least to me, was that he created the book in such a way that make us realize how human attorneys, and the justice system are. I would have to say that this became very apparent during the first few pages of the book, which was actually very funny, to say the least! From there he just jumps right in and starts the reader on a journey that may make your stomach turn at times, but still keeps you turning each page just to catch a glimpse of what is coming next. I believe the most interesting to me was how he and his then, girlfriend, were witnesses to a shooting, and how our minds play tricks on us. Even for 2 firsthand witness accounts, 1 of them being an attorney, neither were able to positively identify the shooter, or even the actual gun he was using. Which then is explained more further, and you realize that many people have been found guilty of crimes they never committed, simply because somebody, "thought" they saw something. Not that we as human beings, try to come up with fake descriptions, or distort facts, but when that we tend to think we saw things that we didn't really see. Especially when it happens during some sort of trauma. He describes at great length, different cases, how he was affected, and does an outstanding job with recounts of the court room. There will be a lot that hit home, especially when the victims are children. Burke E Strunsky, donates 100% of the proceeds to The Humanity of Justice Foundation, a non profit organization to help prevent child abuse and neglect. Each page of this book struck a chord with me, and I would love to read more by this author. I am hoping he writes a few more, maybe touching on other types of cases as well. This could make for a very interesting and haunting series! I recommend this book to anybody who does enjoy learning about our justice system, the courts, and cases and of course, the attorneys perspective. ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

I love mysteries, and thrillers, especially the kind that actually take you right there in the middle of it all, so much that you can almost smell the blood, and the coffee and see each character in person. This is really one of those books. I was even more impressed when I read about the author and read that this was actually his first novel, and that he is a dentist. (We all kind of can't stand those guys, right?) I have read and watched many a good mystery in my 38 years and a lot of the time, it seems there are so many stories and ideas out there that they tend to run out of original ideas. Even though they could still be good stories, you have this feeling that you have read it before, or seen it before. This is not the case here. I can't begin to think of a story that comes close to a crime fighting dentist, who has a partner, in Triumph, Texas, well, I guess he wasn't really a crime fighter, but he was called to come into the morgue to examine a unique symbol found on a dead man's crowned tooth at the county morgue. ( I also thought this was a very clever title for this book!) I like the style of writing this dentist, and author, Howard Lufburrow, has. It is clear, precise, to the point, and seriously keeps your attention. I also have always been fascinated with The Netherlands, so the mystery, smuggling, espionage, mayhem, and murder, just to name a few, was quite the interesting addition to this book. It was written well, keeps you on the edge of your seat, and has some well thought out twists and turns that are very well placed. I also thought that this was a classy mystery, with just the right amount of adjectives and he didn't go overboard with any of it. I read that this was a 5 year "labor of love", and you can tell that the author really took his time to research, and write a book that will most likely find the reader hoping for more, possibly a mini series of some sort? (HINT HINT) I read in another review that they would also love to see more stories about this dentist who is a hero, rather then some Halloween monster that just makes your next dentist trip all the more creepy. I agree 100%! I would recommend this book for any mystery lover, crime fans, thriller, and action readers, and as a bonus for dentists, I think a copy of this book should be put with your magazines, so maybe you can all gain some fans through, Jake Patterson, a new kind of crime stopper, and dentist! ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

Being a female myself, I have to say I never really had any hurdles, any issues to deal with because I am a girl/woman. Although I do know these hurdles do indeed exist, and I have 2 daughters that I would hope never have to go through what I see and hear others go through, especially those who are seeking careers in male dominated fields. I think this is a book that should be handed out at every graduation, to every woman, maybe even the males. Karen Purcell offers some of the most important and most wonderful advice for anybody to succeed in life. She goes into great detail, explaining in a simple to understand way, how to achieve what you want in life, and how to grab a hold of your dreams and thrive. The fact that she wrote this book to help others, and share her own story of inspiration, makes this book extremely valuable and a book that will be opened up for many days, months and years to come. There really is something in there for everybody. This book relates to most of us, and can help you gain more knowledge of what you desire, and want in order to become the person you want to be. Whether you are in any of the fields Karen discusses,(STEM), or not, she explains what you must do in order to get there. STEM is, science, technology, engineering and math. and just like the title states, "Smart Strategies for Women to Thrive..." I especially liked how the author uses her own story, and how she got interested in sharing her story, and the fact that males actually persuaded her to write this, is another positive to mention here. It shows the author has had some positive role models, and friends, from both sexes, and that alone gives hope for females who are struggling in the workplace and in college. It really made me think, and more so since I have daughters, but the part where she discusses how college admissions can be when you are a male, entering these fields, (or any other more thought, "male dominated" career), really hits home. Again, I have never personally been in this type of situation, well actually now that I think about it, I have. But not to this degree, and as quick as that situation came about, it was knocked right down. I forgot for a moment about the time I started bartending about 21 years ago, and a friend of the owners had a son who decided one day he would like to bartend. So, I went in for my shift, and was told that he would be working behind the bar and I would be waiting tables. That was rather upsetting, not that there is anything wrong with waiting tables, but I was on schedule to be behind the bar that night, and this kid who was home from college break decided he was to be back there. This went on for a week or so, and after several complaints about his lack of skills, and attitude problem with our customers, he was finally knocked back down. Although he still kept his attitude and continued his comments about how in the old days, only the men were bartenders. Well, he wasn't the best bartender and he was certainly the slowest I have seen. The final straw came when his own dad had to wait for awhile for a drink while this kid stood there fixing his hair in the mirror behind the bar. So, actually, yes, I do recall a time when there was a dilemma in my life/career, and unfortunately, it isn't always so easy to prove that fast. Lucky for the 3 girls who worked there, he just happened to be a little flaky;) Building confidence is one of the most important lessons we must instill in our children, girls or boys, and this book takes it one step further. I would recommend this book to students, whether college or high school, any career minded or career women, or men, (Yes, there is so much to absorb from Karen's story) and even anybody who has a daughter or 2 of their own. ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

If you like the types of books that grab you from the first page and keep your heart racing all the way until the end, then you will most definitely love this book! I do love those books, of course, and this rates up there with the best! I also enjoy Government conspiracy and well, real true Government thrillers. Fortunately, I believe more people are really aware of what goes on behind the scenes and J. Thomas Shaw, does an exceptional job at this type of suspenseful, and pretty creepy, storytelling. The characters are well thought out, and introduced quite well, and I do adore his writing style, action packed, thrilling, and just all in all, great story line. Dr. Ryan Matthews, loses his family after his cancer cure that he co develops, backfires and ends up speeding the disease's progression and takes his wife's life. Of course this is devastating, and he takes a 5 year plunge as an escape. He meets a new friend, Jordan Carver M.D, who has a plan to open a medical clinic that will help treat terminally ill cancer patients. Oh, wait, it gets much better! There are other medical clinics that treat terminally ill cancer patients, but what is so odd and yet strangely familiar, is that these "clinics" are using a drug that is eerily close to the cancer treatment that Dr. Ryan Matthews helped create, that ended up killing his wife and causing all trials to halt completely. The FDA has apparently allowed the drug to be used in Mexico, in these so called clinics that cancer patients come to with hopes for a last resort. Very creepy, and yet, so realistic. Ryan, and his new friend and fellow researcher, end up jumping into probably the most wild and crazy ride of their lives, when they take it upon themselves to research and investigate what exactly is going on in these "clinics", what is the FDA doing? and most importantly, what is The United States Government doing? Why is this even being done? They are fully aware of the outcome, it really makes you think of all of the strangeness we hear throughout the years, medical trials, clinics, our military, what is being experimented with and who is it being experimented on?? The RX Factor, will keep you at the edge of your seat,(kind of like a Die Hard movie) and questioning everything, even in real life. If you didn't already wonder about what, how, where and why, our Government does what it does, you certainly will after you read this book! The whole concept and reasoning behind what is happening is enough to send shivers through your body, and you will second guess most everything after this book, (again, if you haven't already!) The ending is well laid out, horrifying, and pretty gruesome. As a whole, I would recommend this book to everybody. maybe it will wake some people up as well. Why did I take away 1 star if I loved it so much? I did like the ending, I believe it was the perfect ending to the terror. I did think it was an easy ending to figure out, although, I'm not sure how else it would have ended, since any other way would have possibly taken from the intent. I also think this is a fairly original story, although, I have seen and read this "type" before, and I have to say, again, the author's intent was clearly to write a book about exactly what he wrote about and he didn't take from anything that I am aware of. Nonetheless, that is my reasoning behind a 4 star, rather then a 5 star rating. ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

I wasn't sure what to expect when I received this book for review, and although I expected a very Biblical, Christian based book, that really isn't what I read. ( Not that I would have minded, I just was surprised with this one) Something about taking a story, and creating a book, with a new twist, and through the eyes of the Magi, is very alluring and will probably grab many readers attention with this story. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, as Byron Anderson, took an already beautiful story and elaborated on it and made a genuinely, charming book that will take you on a whole new adventure. The Three Wise Men, are the main characters in the story, and we get to see, first hand, the events that took place before, during and after the birth of Christ, and all through their eyes. Byron Anderson does a tremendous job with real history, and real religion and adds a whole new light, which in turn makes an amazing book that will not be forgotten. Quest for Light, was probably one of the most interesting and beautiful stories I personally have ever read and for those who do not often read the Bible or for those that do read the Bible, this is definitely a book for you! The descriptions and exquisite details of the road they traveled and the bandits, the merchants and all of the people that the Magi, crossed paths with, will stay with you forever and will be an absolute joy to read and picture in your mind. It certainly takes you along the road with them, as if you were there, because the author does a splendid job painting very vivid pictures of all of these amazing events and people. I would be more then happy to see in the near future, that this author chooses to write another book of this type about another part of the Bible. I would recommend this for the coming season for sure, this would make a great gift and the perfect book to read to get you in the spirit for the holiday season, and to share this wonderful story with family and friends. ...more |

This book is extremely interesting, and may seem to be a little on the, hard to grasp, side, but once you start reading, Nayef R.F Al-Rodhan, makes so much sense, and really creates the kind of atmosphere comparable to having a discussion amongst friends. This is the 2nd book I have read from this author, and I enjoy them both very much! They are both 5 star books in my eyes, and I intend on reading more from him. I am a long time fan of Stephen Hawkings, and not to put the 2 in the same category, but Nayef R.F Al-Rodhan's books, remind me a lot of Stephen hawking's books. I can sit and read and comprehend everything in it's entirety, and I get lost in the words, the thoughts, amazed at the mass scope at which it is presented and when somebody asks me a question about it, it's like they zapped me out of some sort of trance where I was learning and was able to see and think and come to many, many very strange and peculiar realizations. (Yes, lol, that irks me quite a bit, but I have 4 children, so....) Anyway, I can't lie, this is not an easy read, it won't be read in one night, nor will it be read while you are doing your daily activities, no, you must take the time and make your mind like a sponge of sorts, take it all in, and be able to concentrate. So, if you are a mom, a dad, a busy person, schedule some time, and relax. Please do not speed read, and skip any sections. This would be a waste of your time. This book is basically set in 3 sections, 1st part is a kind of explanation for the end, which is like a blueprint of sorts, describing and explaining. The 2nd part is where it starts to get a little crazy, (in a good way!!), and the author will then follow through with several different reasons, aspects, everything from many different religions, civilizations, governments, even touches on technology, and then the 3rd part, which is what the author sees as where we as a world or human race, are headed. The religion and meaning of life sections were quite possibly my favorite, and really open your mind, and oddly enough, things start to come together. I believe we may each take something different from this book, and maybe that is the key? It flows very nicely, sort of like music, and again, this is truly going to be something that is all very simple to understand as you are reading it. The meaning of life for instance, has never really been explained to me at least, in such great detail. It opens many doors and definitely broadens your horizons, You may find new meaning to life, where we came from, where we are going, who we are, if not, you will certainly have a terribly interesting discussion for your next date or date night:) I like this author's style, there is no right and wrong, there is no black and white, everything seems to have a purpose, each and every word, and many ponder moments in this book. Lots of footnotes in this book, just as the first book I read from this author, (I love footnotes) I also love how he questions things, as if there is a voice in your head at the same time as you are reading the words, you and the book are asking the same question, Are we really all simply one consciousness? I recommend this book to anybody who adores a challenge, anybody who loves to think and have lots to discuss with friends. This book is definitely for you if you have ever asked yourself, what is the meaning of life? Is there life after death? No matter who or what you believe in, if you have faith in somebody or someone or something, you have surely thought about the afterlife, what is your purpose? Who or what decides your fate? (PS and this is just a section of the book that jumped out at me and had me re reading over and over and over again) ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

I try to keep politics aside from my book reviews, well, at least on my blog. Not necessarily politics in general, but party affiliation, and who I plan to vote for, etc. I was surprised to receive a book that actually just made perfect sense, and didn't swing to either side whatsoever. I wish more people could think like this and could read between the lines. It irks me so much, what is going on in this country and I can't believe the news each day, and I certainly can't believe what in the world is going on. I quite frankly am sick of voting for the lesser of 2 evils, and would love nothing more then to have regular Americans, running for office. But, of course, who wants to do that?? I appreciated the writing in this book, mainly the fact that it wasn't swayed, and it sure wasn't a rant of any kind, it was actually rather positive. (Which is hard to be these days) But, the author gives some hope. Especially with his morals and his well laid out ideas, plans, and information. It really isn't that hard to figure out, although so many seem to have lost a few brain cells over the years, I sit here some days with my mouth hanging open trying to figure out, why??? How?? HUH?? It is easier then some think, and I only hope this book makes it in the hands of many hopefuls like the author, and myself. I would love to see more citizens running for office, I don't care how small the positions, as long as it is something! We all want to complain, and carry on, but yet nobody wants to actually get up and do something about the mess. Many of us have the brains and the ideas, and the experience, so what is holding everybody back? If only Government, and society would read this book, and see how simple this fix really is, and actually how we can use this to our advantage, this country and many others, could be a better place! I have to say, I am personally involved in politics, I am a mom, and a bartender, but I am pretty current, a daily listener, watcher, reader, researcher, and I have read many books about politics and how a Government should and can and never will, govern. Most of those books end up being partial to one side, and that really turns me off. Why can't we all just be happy and civil and brainstorm together?? If you agree with these thoughts, Leadocracy, is the prime choice for you! ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

I can honestly say I have never read a book about mermaids before, and I never even have seen a mermaid fantasy, suspense, romance novel before. Of course, both of our daughters loved the Disney mermaid, but that was for little girls;) This book will actually grab your attention from the first page, and will keep your attention well until the end! Emm Cole really has a tasteful, fresh, creative style that is written so well, you will see each character in front of you, each segment of the story played out right before your eyes, and the images are not easily forgotten. Each character is very descriptively detailed, and all pretty easy to like, and maybe even adore! They all fit together nicely, Selinne, being the main character. A confident, maybe a little stubborn, and has lots of determination, this mermaid is actually the type of main character females of all ages admire. Gabriel, is a warrior, who Selinne, (and the reader), will end up falling head over heels in love with, (or head over fins;) Mermaids and Mermen, have the same types of issues, dilemmas, struggles, drama and feelings as humans do. Parts of the storyline, the characters personalities, and the atmosphere are created in such a way that we can relate. And at the same time, this alluring tale will provide a place for you to escape the real world, for just a while, until the end. I would hope there is a 2nd volume on the way very soon. I would definitely be interested in reading it! I think this is an excellent series that will prove to stand the test of time and will capture the hearts of many, many fans. Young adult, fantasy, suspense, fairy tale fans. Even drama, romance, and adventure fans will find that this is well worth your time! ...more |

I have to start out by saying that the author is a great storyteller, and does a splendid job introducing the characters in her books, and this one was no exception. She does a tremendous job with detail, sometimes, I think maybe to much for some readers, as the only issue I have with this book, is that it seems it starts to read more like a textbook, then a mystery novel. As much as I enjoy learning and reading facts and watching shows that explain disorders, serial killers, all those crazy psychological documentaries, and books, I feel that this specific series leans a little more towards that realm, then a mystery novel. Which is not an issue with me personally, but I believe potential readers may want to know that along with a good, solid story, comes a lot to be educated on and as much time as the reader enjoys this book, they will possibly feel they are in a college classroom, at times. I would normally say a "women's sleuth", or a "mystery novel", would make a good "beach read' or one of those books you read at your lunch breaks, or at home in bed. I can't say that with this one, for all readers, because this may require some re reading and or backtracking. But either way, it is a fine book with a fabulous character, Dr. Cory, who will end up being one of your favorite private investigator's when you are halfway through the book. Dr. Cory, and Ben Fortuna, met previously, and partner up to start investigating a case, involving an anorexic, young woman, and her Iranian husband. The husband is a prominent petroleum engineer who has a special method that grabs the attention of a desperate oil company executive, who will stop at nothing, to steal his secret method. This story picks up right from the beginning, and possesses all of the good stuff a mystery should have, terrorism, murder, kidnapping, international disasters, and even a little bit of a love story:) The story itself is most certainly a thriller, full of suspense, and full of edge of your seat drama. The characters are easy to like, Ben is just charming, and the love that he and Dr. Cory share is just so sweet and innocent and will make you smile! I like this idea of the psychologist turned investigator, what better profession then these 2, to go hand in hand. I also like how the author's own experience is tied in with this series. I would recommend this book to anybody who loves a good mystery novel, and also likes to read a book by somebody who has done their homework, (Sandra Levy Ceren, certainly has the experience to cover this!) ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

Just as many Americans, I am a big supporter of our troops, and I am in constant shock and sadness when I read and see the news each day. I grew up a little later then Vietnam, but have always been fascinated about this time, our soldiers, and how many disturbing stories and problems our troops had to deal with. Especially when they came back home. This book is filled with so many wonderful people, their personal stories, terrifying poems, horrific events and so many problems that still haunt them everyday. It is awful and unfortunate what they have gone through, and it makes it worse when there are still people out there who certainly don't give these men and women the respect they deserve so much. They are living nightmares, it doesn't matter which war, which battle, which time period they served, they are all going through so much more then most of us could ever even begin to imagine. I sat in absolute horror as I turned the pages and looked at some of the pictures inside, read about their losses, their lives that were ripped apart, and the agony they are still trying to cope with. One in particular, Marc Levy, really pulled and tugged at me, and not that I have been through anything near what he was, and is, but each day since I read this book, who's poems have been permanently branded inside my mind. These heroes have tons of talent, and it definitely isn't hidden in their writings. Very creative, and exceptional work, and so much gut wrenching stories, this is a rare gem of a book. I would never recommend this for anybody who can't stomach gore and horror. This is all very real, and colorful and could possibly make some very disturbed. I can usually handle quite a bit, and being a fan of war movies, I figured this would be an easy, simple book to read, and well it wasn't. You can't put it down, and you can't stop re reading certain stories and poems. I hope for the sake of the author's, that writing provides some sort of therapy, and I hope the same for any vet who may want to read this book to become inspired or maybe see how many are out there who are going through the same pain. ...more |

I always love these books that help stir creativity in children, and make the little motors start moving, and gets their imagination flowing! This book provided, literally, hours of discussion, and thinking, and dreaming and drawing and we all had a blast with this book. Especially our 5 year old and 9 year old, since dragons are most definitely cool! Even our 2 year old, had a fun time checking each page for the dragon and pointing and saying, "There he is!" He giggled the whole way through, each time too;) I know it may seem so simple, but that is all your children need to have a place to escape to, and to start new ideas and when they have this, anything is possible. This book is an excellent addition to any child's bookshelf, and it will be read over and over again, just like it was at our house. The illustrations are cute, and our kids loved the little dragon, and really had a fun time finding where he was each time we turned the page. Aaron, our 9 year old, always loves to read to his little brother and sister, and this is a very easy to read book, even for children much younger then him. He likes to hold the book up and read to them and they enjoy when their big brother reads to them, and just as much as they bug and bug for me to read a book, they do the same to him. So far, this has been the most picked book, by both the littlest ones! We recommend this book to kids of all ages, and teachers, day cares, Sunday school, any place where kids are read to, and where reading is an essential part of their day. I remember those books that were hard to get at the school library, and this reminds me of one of those books! ** We received a copy of this book in return for our honest review ** ...more |

At first when I picked this book up from the shelf, I wondered what to expect. The cover didn't seem to draw me in as much as other covers do, (this is always something I make note of, even when like in this case, the cover ended up being quite fitting for the book), and I have to admit, it wasn't the kind of book that jumped out at me from page 1, or even page 2. I can usually finish a book in a couple hours, depending on how long they are of course, but sometimes when they seem slightly, "boring", I tend to start doing other things and come back to it later. Which was what I thought I would be doing with this book. But, it really started to pick up after a few pages, and you start to get to know the main character well. Harry Jacobsen, is a well, regular guy, with a regular life. he is an editor for a small weekly paper on the Chesapeake. Harry is from New York, and recently was fired from an investigative reporter job, which seemed to embarrass and upset him pretty much. So, he decided to leave the Big Apple, for a much quieter town in Maryland. Like many other towns, not much really happens there, especially anything real interesting. When a few teens come across the sunken hulk of a racing boat, that was 30 years old, he didn't really expect near what he got from this small town story. The book really starts to take off, and ends up being about, Walker John Douglas, and the 2 women he killed 30 years earlier, burnt down half the town, and crashed his vessel. There were a lot of parts of this book that reminded me a lot of a long time favorite of mine, To Kill A Mockingbird, not that the author tried to re do that story by any means, but it is a similar type of book. Racism and racial unrest, are a common issue in the world, 30 years ago, and today. I admire this author for writing such a book, due to the fact that not everybody would accept it, nor would they want to read a book about racial unrest. But this shouldn't upset anybody, as it is written very well, very carefully and professionally. Harry's presence in this little town, and his investigations of what was once thought and believed to be true about this ordeal, ends up really stirring the place up and ends up being quite a suspenseful book. The way this book was written, fascinated me, since it started so slowly, and ends up being a story you wish would never end. I've read many, many books through my life, and this is truly one of a kind in this sense. I often say, never judge a book by it's cover, and I apologize if you read my book reviews and you may have seen this said before, but this is one of those books. It may look like just a book, a story about racing boats, but there is much, much more to this book! ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

I started this book, expecting to need some tissues close, and to just have a terribly sad day after I finished it, but that didn't really happen. Not because it wasn't upsetting, or sad that this wonderful person and family went through this, but because the author has an amazing sense of humor. This is a wonderful book, one of those kinds that leaves a warm, fuzzy feeling inside, and Jay Lefevers, really does an excellent job conveying his feelings through the pages of this book. I commend him for his whole attitude during this whole ordeal, and as much as he is a hero to his baseball team, he will end up being a hero for you when you read his book. Of course, there were several sad parts, and very crushing moments. Especially when he had to tell his wife about what the doctors had found. But, even through all of it, he kept his humor, his positive attitude, and held everything together, as much if not more then anybody can expect from a cancer patient. I really enjoyed reading his story about how he met his wife, about their children, his baseball team, and I could relate to the sections about the goofball doctors, the odd things that happen at the doctors office, and the weird phone calls that sometimes seem to make no sense at all. I was happy to know I wasn't alone in thinking doctors are a bit "weird" sometimes;) I can't say we have anybody in our family that has had cancer, but we have had our share of medical mysteries, and medical issues. We have always taken a positive approach, even though it is very hard to keep that going all the time. The author and his family are admirable in many ways, and I am grateful for having read this book, and being reminded just how strong and powerful, people really are. I would recommend this book for cancer survivors, patients, families of cancer survivors, any disease or illness really, as this book may just provide a few laughs and smiles along the way! ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

Intriguing and crafted perfectly, is an understatement. So is: Interesting, unique, and written so well. I am kind of at one of the first times in my life, at a loss for words. I have to start by saying that I am not a big church goer, my family kinda lives like a lot of average other families, where when one of us works through the whole week, the other works straight through the weekends, and this is just a shame, but reality. So, no, I am not I guess an avid church goer, although when I was young, we certainly went to Sunday School. For a few years at least. But I am aware of some Bible stories, David and Goliath being one of them. I was very much into reading this book, even more when I received it, and from just reading the descriptions, I don't usually apply to read and review a book very often. They sometimes just come at me, but this was one I could not bear to not review. I was anxious to see how the story was written, was it going to be boring, would it be very much like reading the Bible? The way this book was presented, even here on Amazon, was terribly interesting, mysterious, and I looked for it each day in the mailbox until it finally arrived! From the first page, a pretty grotesque first page, but just the way I like it;), the author's skills were already made known. With the first sentence, she grabbed the readers attention, and from there will take you on a journey you will truly never, ever forget! Rachelle Ayala, really tells a wonderful story, a beautiful story that I don't think anybody will be forgetting very soon. I thought it was a sensational story, she is very descriptive and what an awesome idea to tell this story through the eyes of Michal, in this way! I think this will certainly be a favorite amongst moms, and females of course, but it sure provides a beautiful place to escape too... I enjoyed reading about the author as well, and all of her hard work that was involved in creating such a book, I appreciate her time and effort, and it certainly shows how much time and how the time was so well spent, through her book. I noticed there is an issue with some people with this being slightly "pornographic". I have to say, I am not ever a romance type, no matter how "pornographic" it gets, book fan. I enjoy history, different writing styles, and imaginations, and this book does have it's fair share of intimacy, I didn't see it as being pornographic at all. I also don't believe the author painted David as a vicious and cruel individual and I sure don't think this book was meant to replace any part of the Bible, this is one person's view of a story and how it was seen, and felt through Michal's eyes and heart. I would recommend reading the reviews for books like this, and the description before you make a purchase and get a book you thought maybe was about something else instead. I do recommend this book to moms, females, anybody who enjoys a good, solid, action packed, thrilling ride, laced with love, betrayal, heartache, and pain that you will feel right from the pages. ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |

We received an eBook version of this book to write a review, and we will be grabbing a paperback copy. (I love real books and we always purchase the paperback or hard cover version of all of our favorite eBooks we receive for reviews) Even as an electronic version, the illustrations are very vivid, and truly one of a kind! You can't help but spend a lot of time just staring at these vibrantly colored pictures! They are drawn so well that they tell the story all by themselves! My children just loved this story, the little sprout and his mommy are just like little ones and their mommy. (My 5 year old daughter said:) The little sprout in the story is so cute and does act just like a little one who is so anxious to grow and see the world! Books are a very important part of bringing up children. We always read to our children as early as just a couple days old, and all 4 of them have grown up to respect books, and enjoy them and look forward to story time. This is a book that should be treated as gold, and given to children, new moms, newborns, as I am certain they will love the bright colors and adorable illustrations! It is also a sweet book, as it shows how a mommy loves her baby and watches them grow, watches them create and think and dream and imagine and how they can aspire to be and do anything they set their little minds too! We recommend this book for any house that may ever have a child visit or a home where a child lives:) ** We received a copy of this book in return for our honest review ** ...more |

Aaron, my 9 year old, is just in love with this book. He sat at the kitchen table giggling and giggling and having the best time. Especially with Billy's chapters. On top of being a hilariously funny book, Escape to Mars, has some very cool and sneaky way of teaching a little bit about science and outer space. This was a big hit with me, since I adore anything my children can learn from. Especially when it comes in such a creative form. ( After reading about the author, and learning he has children, this made so much sense! We parents have to always "sneak" clever little ways of teaching lessons) The story is imaginative and invites the readers (mainly kids) (although us parents love to dream and imagine too!), to discuss what they would do in this situation, what would they bring with them to Mars, how would they pack? What about Earth would they miss? The story starts with Billy's family, his father comes home to try to explain about the black hole he helped create, that was in the center of the Earth, and how the Earth would be swallowed up by this black hole. The chapter is written by Billy, which is a unique way to present this book, through the eyes of a 10 year old boy. After we are introduced to Amber, a 10 year old girl, we get to read her side of this amazing adventure! Billy and Amber's families, and a few other people needed to help start a new civilization on Mars, start their journey to outer space. They pack some food, some animals, different things needed in order to survive on Mars, and grab a space shuttle to start their adventure. The print in the book changes with each 10 year old's writings, which helps to distinguish between the 2. I thought this was a neat addition to this fun story! This is the perfect bedtime story, and your kids, any age, will love it! What little kid doesn't like outer space, space ships, Mars, and all the funny things that happen to Billy and Amber. Well, not everything is so funny. They certainly have their fair share of mishaps and some scary situations that they must. as a team, brainstorm and try and figure out. Billy and Amber included. The author does a fine job creating this story, the characters are scenes are vivid and colorful and crafted well! It certainly has a lot of twists and turns and will be sure to keep your little ones attention. We were thrilled to see there will be another book coming in this series and we can't wait! Note to the author from Aaron, my 9 year old: This would be so cool if you would make a movie or tv shows about this book!! It would be my new favorite show! Lol;P Kids just love outer space, anything funny, and books written in their language. I have to agree with Aaron though, this would be a great mini series! ** We received a copy of this book in return for our honest review ** ...more |

I am a huge, huge, huge fan of horror, scary, all of the psychological thrillers, gory even, the scarier the better. So, I am normally a bit to hard to please I believe, since in at least 26 of my 38 years, I have been an avid horror fan and have seen and read some that are the very best and some of the uh not so much of the best! I have also been very pleased and shocked by some of what I have read and seen, (don't judge a book by it's cover) Although, the cover of this book is very cool. However, it doesn't lead me to think, hmmm, this oughtta be a real crazy and scary book. But it was! I loved the stories in this book quite a bit! I did of course, enjoy Thorne manor, probably the most, but the other stories in this book are very entertaining and real spooky and wicked, which is a good thing!! The Quiet neighbors was very good, Guardian at the Gate was another excellent story, Dream State was super spooky and probably my favorite, and very well could be my all time favorite short spooky story! By Invitation Only was real crazy actually! The Black Sheep and Good Riddance were both insane and quite gory, to say the least! I enjoy Diane Wing's writing style, she does an outstanding job with adjectives and descriptions, and makes it an art. She is a great storyteller, and would be the best camping guest! ( scary stories around the campfire... I am hoping people know what I mean here;) Diane does a fine job engaging the reader and keeping you literally, on the edge of your seat. I actually read these stories between 10pm and 2am, on my back porch with some coffee. (this is when I read and get things done on a normal day) and I have to say, there were a few times I was so into the book, that when I heard a noise, I was pretty creeped out!! I would recommend this book to anybody who likes some good stories for the campfire, and anybody who is a fan of the unexplained, horror, or just spooky, scary stories! ** I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review ** ...more |
