The Moon Dwellers by David Estes is a strong introduction to a series that shows a great deal of promise. The novel paints a realistic story of how humans were forced to live underground. It is also a realistic portrayal of the ruling elite and the oppression that the lower classes are confronted with. The heroine of the story is a young girl called Adele, whose family is torn apart when they are labelled as traitors and taken to separate prisons. Through strength Adele finds friendships she never dreamed of having as she embarks on a quest to find her family and potentially join a rebellion. Tristan is heir to the throne of the Moon Dwellers but unlike his corrupt father he is kind and good. After his mother mysteriously disappears and jaded by the greed around him, Tristan embarks on his own quest with the help of his trusted friend to find the girl who in a glance seemed to capture his heart. This book is a good lead into what I'm hoping will be a great trilogy. I think the connection between Adele and Tristan in this prequel is believable enough to keep us all waiting patiently to see how the story unfolds between them. I really liked the book. I do look forward to reading the others. ...more

The Doorknob Society written by M.J. Fletcher is a very good debut novel from an author known for his comics. Technically, I feel this book could use more editing, my only reservations being that I think the author has real potential to become a very strong name in the young adult market and I would love nothing more than to see him offered a publishing contract. The idea behind the story is fresh and exciting. Fletcher successfully creates an alternate reality easily pictured in the readers mind. I think that this book would also translate well on screen, especially in this market. The story revolves around a young girl, Chloe. Chloe’s mother has disappeared mysteriously some years before and her father earns money as a magician. It is while traveling with her father for one of his magic shows that Chloe in a dangerous situation uncovers powers she never knew and finds that her family comes from a long line of members of what is referred to as; The Doorknob Society. All of a sudden, Chloe’s world changes, as she joins a school for people of her kind and she finds that her dad has gone missing. Chloe must learn to trust herself and others around her as she tries to unravel the mysterious disappearance of her mother and now find her missing father. A wonderful book I think anyone who likes something with alternate dimensions, romance, interesting characters and magical doorknobs will definitely love reading this book. A great first book in a series that shows real promise. ...more

Set in Minnesota it tells the story of a young girl Katla who moves from LA when her parents get divorced. Katla not only discovers that she is part of a secret society known as the Storks; but that she has a history with and an attraction to Jack (the editor of the high school paper and star quarterback) one she can't remember, but Jack has his secrets to. A wonderful new take on some fantastic myths. It was a book I couldn't put down. Delsol weaves Nordic myth so beautifully into the story line it's was just so refreshing to pick up something so well written and new. I'm looking forward to Frost which is the next in the series.

The story begins with a plane crash (quite interesting seeing though the author himself was lost in action after flying over Africa) and is seen threw the eyes of the pilot. The pilot meets a young boy 'Prince' from a far away planet. It's a wonderful moving work which I feel could easily be read by...more
