I finished Mockingjay last month.. And may I just say wow?! Collin writes with simplicity. Just states what is going on. Sure. From time to time there is some fluff, but not nearly as much as in other books.
Simple. Sometimes just stating what is there. For instance . . . in the 1st page of the 1st chapter of the hunger games when Katniss is in her bed and is describing the things she sees and what will happen that day, etc.,etc.
Simple. But beautiful. How can you not appreciate and love the manner some parts are written in? The fluidity of words, the ease of slipping in memories, the depth of characters. . . * sigh. The last few pages were written marvelously.(as we're the rest, but still).
Simple. But powerful. For instance . . . But there are much worse games to play. Or: my children do not know they play in a graveyard.
It was a maze of a story! Try to find one more book that covers that much material from start to finish. Sure, Harry Potter does it . . . In many, many more pages! If the 7th Harry Potter book required 2 movies, I wouldn't be surprised if this one requires at least 3. ( haha . . . I just thought of something! It was a maze of a story? It was an amazing story!)
Killing Coin? Great idea. Way to go Katniss!

I was at rehearsal and the script mentioned primroses. I was a little zoned out but my ears tuned in on the word primrose and I started thinking " why!? Whyyyyyyy!?Why did you have to die, prim?! Why!? It was all i could do not to throw myself on the floor in a quivering heap and sob. I mean technically . . . She never was alive to beggin with but still . . . Whhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyy*!?
* these whys were thought a very helpless, dramatic screaming format. Kinda the way it would have sounded in . . . Er . . . FORGET you If the why was screamed In a less blubbery voice. Now, I command you to go back and retread the previous section with that voice. You can do it in you head, but you must do it!!
I avoided reading this book through the hunger games craze this year. I sat there listening to my friends go on and on about it. Then I saw the movieI avoided reading this book through the hunger games craze this year. I sat there listening to my friends go on and on about it. Then I saw the movie trailer. It was then that I realized that Katniss hadn't volunteered to take the place of an older, more fit sibling, but of prims. I held off on seeing the movie and read the book a few months later. Amazing concept. Not a big fan of scify, but this is amazing.
My brain: Abby, when you grow up can you please name your daughter Katniss? Or maybe prim?
