So much practical advice in this book for training your brain to think truthful thoughts, taking passages straight from the Bible as the ultimate truth. The Life=Change=Loss=Grief sequence will stay with me forever, helpfully reminding me to name the losses, process the sadness, and move on toward growth. Recommend for ANYONE to read, not just depression sufferers....more

By the author of Boundaries. Halfway thru I was a little discouraged because the book seemed mostly aimed at business management, but then it got more personal. One situation was exactly me, I felt like someone finally described exactly what motivates me. The author divides people into 3 categories - wise, foolish, and evil. I found that interesting....more

It's 4 stars because the language (f-bombs frequently used, not much worse) makes it a poor choice for family listening. Also there was a casual attitude toward shoplifting and porn. But the story telling is superb! So full of love, tragedy, tenderness, and hilarity! I LOVED his Christian mother, she is the star of the story. I was moved to tears especially near the end. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to try it....more

Ya I know, a book about math? Not everyone will be interested. But if you think you might be, try it! One of the main themes is that using calculators and programs, humans can do things far beyond our capacity for understanding and judging risk. Building bridges, dosing medicine, computer coding, and so much more. Mistakes happen and it is good to learn from them. Not point fingers and punish but rather have good systems to catch mistakes, while living with a known factor of risk. The idea that doctors or engineers don't (aren't allowed to) make mistakes is not helpful or healthy. Some of the mistakes written about are deadly while others are pure comedy. Fantastic reading....more

Statistics 6* I think this is the best book I've read in years, and I've read great books. I did not read this for parenting purposes but for myself. Statistics show that only 4% of millennials hold a biblical worldview. I can expect that society will not reinforce, but will undermine what my children have been taught about the Bible. This apologetics book explains so many cultural lies. There are causes or statements that appear innocent, but in reality are at enmity with God. The chapters are written by several different women of wisdom. Lots of well-researched and documented history included. Their website also has amazing resources for Christian mothers....more

Great examples of individuals rising after a fall and reckoning with what happened. Especially in the most important area, being true to ourselves and our values. Sometimes the biggest business mistakes are not the ones that result in financial loss, but the ones that result in a moral loss. I love the quote that underpins this book (and all Brené's work on vulnerability) "It is not the critic who counts..." I took off 1 star because toward the end it got a little repetitive or preachy. The language Brené and her family use wouldn't copy that well into my family's style. ...more

I always knew that when we try to bubble wrap kids and keep them 100% safe, there is an alternative risk that we don't always take into account, like obesity or lack of enjoyment or other things that are hard to identify. Jimmy has overcome so much in life, and is an example of courage and heart. The story dragged a little during part 3 when Jimmy was a rising singer/songwriter in Nashville. But then came the story of Jimmy's walk, which was the best part! Love this book and I think anyone will be inspired by reading it.
