I felt the third quarter of this book was really dragging on and the constant switching between characters and their environments was annoying, especially as there often wasn't a cliffhanger at the chapter end. I would really like to know what happens to all the other silos though....more

Funnily enough I couldn't remember that much of the first read through so this was, as always, a great and funny read. Terry Pratchett hits it out of the park as usual and as this book is partially focused on one of my favourite characters - it was a great read. So many puns and hidden jokes that I'm sure I didn't get the first time round, highly recommended as usual....more

Initially I was a little disappointed that this book did not carry on from where the first book left off but I was soon intent on reading the next part in the series. Although the people in the book are different to the first book, this follows the life of one of the girls from the first book after she was sent away to the FARM. There are some touching but tough moments in the book as some of their history is revealed even though what was before is not to be spoken of.
The book ends, as all good series do, in a twist and I'm really looking forward to book 3....more

An interesting and informative read, especially for people in the IT field and some good reminders and challenges of how to cope and learn as you progress in your career and life....more

Set in post Nuclear war earth, the book follows Maia as she comes of age, gets married and, as all fertile women do, gets harvested for her eggs. The life events surrounding this leads to some very interesting secrets and unveiling of family history that unfold through the book. I started reading this book thinking it was similar to the Hunger games and there are still some parallels but those books were also extremely popular so that's not a bad thing! Looking forward to the next book in the series...more
