The book started off cool, Thomas was a bad kid, the book allows that. He is allowed to be a bad flawed little kid with a terrible passed. I liked that, so many books characters get positive arches and still get the girls. He remained ugly and still got the girl. Speaking of the girl, the girl was my favorite person. And I have to say she didn't start out that way. She was this little perfect b**. But she goes through such a character growth that does not, to me at lest, does not feel pushed. Lastly, Charlie was the goody kid who made friends with the bad kid, to be honest, he was my lest favorite character out of our main three. I had to tell you about these three because they are people. The author breathed life into these guys and honestly for this book I was apart of the trio. So I said the book started off cool, right? Well once I hit the middle I just wanted it to end. I loved the mines, that was the best part of the book to me. I was able to see and feel in the dark. It was to short lived, I came into the sun and hated it. But after that, I wanted the book to end. I read this book in two days. I wanted it to get good I was rooting for it. When it ended I was happy, I put the book down.
It was though I had been ripped out of a different world. I missed it. I felt robbed. Suddenly I wanted to go back. Start the book over. Dan vyleta did such a good job of created a world that lived and breathed on its own. It wasn't perfect and it wasn't all smooth sailing. But how he stitched it all together made it impossible to leave. I can honestly walk away saying that I loved this book, yes it may have been slow moving in spots and sometimes parts seemed boring or useless. But it all worked, it was alive. I walked away half expecting to smoke myself. I honestly loooooooooove that both of the boys got the girl. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaate pointless love triangles that end with someone hurt and the couple always being awkward. It was cute and such a different ending. I hope there is a second book, I really do. The three work together, they are all broken and they are all confused. They fit into each other and hold each other back, as well as up. I can't wait to go back on the road with them. ...more

I have to say the parts I loved most where the tree people, and when agnieszka was living and working in the forest. I would have liked a book just on that. And I thought the romance was stupid and not needed at all. Agnieszka had way more romantic chemistry with kasia then she did with the forgettable dragon....more
