FAVORITE LINE: “And when life presses your back against the wall, always remember to stand straight and meet your challenges head on.” ~ EBN-Reyoz-X Guardian of the Sky
TEASER: “We can never control what is in a person’s mind or heart, but we can hold them accountable for their behavior.” I slowly stood and got into my stance facing Shale. I should have known better standing less than an arm’s length from him. The air between us crackled with electricity and our eyes met and held. Before I knew what was happening, he leaned toward me and I toward him. For a moment, all my cares fell away as our lips brushed in a tender kiss.
PLOT: Being is my very first YA novel and I want more! I had no idea what to expect going in. Being that I am not a fan of science fiction nor fantasy, I thought I would have a difficult time reading this book at first. However, I knew I wanted to branch out and experience a genre beyond my norm. A decision I am glad I made. Not only did the author deliver adventure and a unique plot, she also threw in family values and intricate world building that brought her story to life. The book starts off with EBN crashing to Earth, a planet believed to be in chaos and war. Then it quickly cascades into an adventurous story of an alien trying to learn the ways of SENTS or people while waiting for rescue. And to add the the story's depth, the author switches back and forth between EBN and her brother located on her home planet; whom in unknowingly in the middle of uncovering a plot as to why EBN is left cut off from her home world. Which I will leave for you to discover! The excitement of seeing earth through another creatures eyes, rather than my own, was revealing to say the least. EBN's ability to cut through the taboos of our world left the real issues we are facing uncovered and visible to the naked eye. The author's use of real world occurrences brought the matter of our planet's health close to home, making me stop and think each time I might take clean water or air for granted as well as my fellow human beings. EBN represents the opposite of what our world is, I completely understood her ability to leave trails of wild flowers in her wake. Since her touch heals, it only made sense that when her feet hit the earth she would heal the earth with each touch. The closer I got to finishing Being, the more I wanted to read. I knew the story would have to come to an end, but I was not prepared for it. The author answered all the important story questions for Being, yet she left just enough of a cliffhanger at the end to have me anxiously awaiting the sequel to come.
SETTING: EBN's adventures starts out with her navigating her ship, Surety, through earth's atmosphere for simple routine data collection. Which result in her crash landing and seeking refuge in a trailer park outside of Los Angeles. Being also shifted to EBN's home world, Pharralax. The intricate detail provided through Aix's thoughts and actions were so intriguing I completely forgot I do not read science fiction. I simply could not get enough!
WRITING: I admire Ms. Mousner's ability to show so much detail within her writing. Her writing style pulled me in without me even noticing just how invested I was in the story. Her sense of creativity and ability to weave together wonderful characters and plot delivered a well written and entertaining story. I also enjoyed the variety of narratives she used in telling the story. I normally do not enjoy switching in and out of third person, yet for this book and story it worked well.
CHARACTERS: It was EBN's character and not the story plot that made me want to read Being. She is an alien yes, yet her thoughts and feelings on many subjects paralleled to that of my own. Her kindness towards others is unmeasurable, even when it would do harm to her own health. She also showed a deep rooted determination to reach her goals which is something that we all could use a reminder of every once in a while. But the one thing that she reinforced in myself and had me connecting to her was her belief in respect. Not only to her elders and her responsibility as a Guardian of the Sky, but also to those around her and the planet to which sustained her life. When EBN's family was introduced I was amazed by the connection they shared. The author includes a strong family theme in Being, something I consider to be a wonderful thing to include within a YA novel. The secondary characters served to only make the the story richer and more engrossing. I loved running across Mrs. Perkins' character. It's always fun reading a book with a character that shares your name!
LAST THOUGHTS: T.R. Mousner's debut YA novel is a must read. The story is filled with adventures and characters that should not be missed! Whether you like the science fiction angle or sense of family and connections made in life, there is something for everyone in this book. I will definitely be on the look out for the sequel from Ms. Mousner! T.R. Mousner...more

This book had me wanting to toss is aside one minute then just a quickly wanting nothing more than to flip the page to see what would happen next and loathing the moment I'd be interrupted by my daily activities. For a little less than the first half of the book I didn't understand the writer's style or why so much of the stories world building hadn't been revealed to me. Patience is a virtue as they say and when reading this book the more you wait the better it gets. The answers to all my questions concerning the plot and people in the book were slowly revealed to me as the story progressed making the read unique and a work of sheer brilliance, in my opinion. Instead of spelling everything out for the reader Ms. Bisset weaves in the delectable twists of her plot and time to which I had to pay close attention to in order to understand the world she has built for her Destined Ones Series. This lengthy novel takes reincarnation, a trinket of a fantasy we all have either thought about or entertained at one point or another in our lives, and created a race of people who live multiple lives based on this concept. Ms. Bisset delivered fantasy, crime, hot sizzling passion and a love triangle that had me cheering for both Varek and Amon. There are no spoilers here, but I will say Callia is one lucky heroine and the ending had me in tears of both sadness and joy!
SETTING: New Hope, a town where gruesome murders bring together two destined Aeveren. An orphanage, where the last magic touch brings together a family. The Italian country side, where love is lost and gained. Nil, a prison where crimes are punished as the council sees fit.
WRITING: Ms. Bisset's writing style is unique. At first I had a hard time accepting her rule breaking, but I quickly tossed that out the window when I saw and understood how it amplified the enjoyment of her book. She didn't weigh her story down with a lot of little details but more so brought to life a story by including everyone's thoughts and feelings for each moment of the story by...yes...using the dreaded head hopping! But don't shy away because of this...no. I promise, in this case it only makes for a better story!
CHARACTERS: By the end I will admit to falling for both the 'good' guy and the 'bad' guy in the story. The good guy, Varek Leale, is introduced as a murdered, a hard fact to swallow at first, but the author had a plan for him and that plan was Callia. As the perfect Destined One for Varek, she helps him rebuild his soul after spending three lifetimes in prison and to also see the value in his life once again. Their journey is a very emotional one that I didn't want to accept at first. Varek grew on me though and proved how forgiveness works even in fiction. Varek's new found love and stablility was tested and put through the ringer on several occasions in Stolen Destiny to which Amon played in perfectly. As a tempuster, Amon works his gift for time manipulation to his advantage, stealing away Callia from Varek. This results in her falling in love with Amon, a man determined to see her as his no matter the cost to anyone. These two men brought a grit to the story that gave it an edge, challenging me to see beyond the mistakes each had committed, beyond the pain they each had caused in their reincarnated lives and see deeper into the souls of two men that need saving. To give no more away, I will say this, Amon is a soul worth saving and I know it will be as adventurous as Varek and Callia's story.
LAST THOUGHTS: This hidden gem of a book can be enjoyed by all adult readers. There is something in it for all whether you enjoy romance, fantasy, or a good mystery. I can't wait until the second book in the series this October! Ms. Bisset...keep them coming!...more

TEASER: Finn leaned into the fae. “Nice try, but you forget my abilities. Your guard is down, woman. I can tell you were lying to us. You knew the prophecy. You left out certain parts. Now we want to know why.” “No,” she spat, “You think you want to know why. Take an old fairy’s advice, won’t you, luv, and steer clear of all this.” “Well, we’d like to, but I’m afraid that’s not possible.” Finn’s eyes glittered like two fine emeralds as he stared the fae down. “You know the full extent of Raven’s involvement with this prophecy. You know, and you’re going to share that knowledge with us.” ~ Finn McPhee
PLOT: Based on a prophecy, Raven's Kiss is an excellent adult urban fantasy that kept me guessing chapter after chapter. The author did a good job of weaving mystery and a little romance together with a highly adventurous story thread. The action and adventure lead the heroine, Raven, through some strange situations that had me very entertained and wanting more with each flip of the page. The story flowed well for the most part but I did feel the dialogue weighed down the pace at times. The one aspect of the story that I hard time believing was some of the things Raven would say to the hero, Finn. In fact, there were a couple of times I had to step away from the story and come back to it later because of the way Raven handled herself. However, this did not affect the strong beginning, middle and end that, from the start, pulled me into the thick of Raven's world where she is a Recovery Agent similar to our FBI Agent. As in all urban fantasy the world building is the bases of the story and I have to say the author did a great job of creating a world that was unique in every sense. And while the romance was not at the forefront of the story I did find the connection between Raven and her male interest, Finn a nice touch and a bit sensual to follow by the end. It added a great flavor to the story and ultimately had me cheering for Raven when at times I wanted to reach out and teach her some manners. I am happy to say though that she did grow into a character that I liked and hope to see in further books to come. Contrary to many urban fantasy books, and to my satisfaction, the author wrapped up the story quite nicely without leaving us with a cliffhanger that would have left me months wondering what happened to Raven and Finn. I am not one for endings that leave me guessing at all and for that alone I know I will be picking up Toni LoTempio's next book!
SETTING: While not giving anything away I will say that the story takes place in Carolers Falls, but be careful, that one clue could be deceiving!
WRITING: Ms. LoTempio can write with a craftiness that proves she can tell a tale! Her writing style affords such attention to detail that you know exactly what is going on around the main character even though the story is told in first person. This is no easy task I assure you. And even though this is a self published book, the editing was, for the most part, spot on with very limited mistakes throughout the entire book.
CHARACTERS: Raven Grace is one character I almost ended up disliking completely. After being attacked by a demon and left as a shapeshifter she adopts an attitude that is hard to get along with for the first half of the book. On one hand you understand her single minded determination to rid the world of any evil doers, but it is hard to swallow at times and as I said above, had me stepping away from the book a few times. If not for the secondary characters and the tight plot, Raven might have stopped me from continuing. But, I also have to say that I wanted to see if she would grow beyond her hatred and I was not disappointed in the least. While she is still snarky 'till the very end, a veil is lifted at the latter end of the book and I was able to get a good look at the girl that was left to fend for herself after her attack, the girl that was wounded and had to come to terms with being a shapeshifter or coli as she is referred to in the story. By the end I liked the character she became and hope to see more of her in the next book. As for her love interest, Finn had a much more pleasant attitude about himself and with his Scottish brogue I would have fallen him just as hard as Raven did. I found his ability to see under Raven's veil and accept her for who she is as an admirable quality. Most men wouldn't care to dig deep enough but Finn did, yet not without giving her a bit of his own alpha character first. And the secondary characters is what added the depth to the story in my opinion. Without giving anything away, I loved meeting all the two-sided characters. It took having multiple personalities and added a twist that gave the story it's fun and unique take on urban fantasy.
LAST THOUGHTS: This fun and exciting tale is filled with a deadly prophecy, a heroine fighting against evil and a casting of characters that will have you entertained for hours. I recommend Raven's Kiss to all lovers of Urban fantasy and even paranormal romance. I hope to see more of Raven and her redheaded Scotsman in future installments of this series! ...more

From the first sentence to the(4.75 star review that received TOP PICK from NIGHT OWL REVIEWS) PLOT: Forbidden Blood is a gripping, dark and sexy ride! From the first sentence to the last I felt so intertwined with the characters and the story that I had to read it in one sitting - unable to break away. The entire story took me through every emotion there is and I loved it. Betrayal and revenge tainted the very bonds holding together the society of Vampire Nobles and the lesser Nobles. Humans nothing more than pests to their upper breeding. That is, until one very human Source Blood female steals the heart of her Noble Venator. His tale is heart wrenching at best and will take your breathe away with the power a forbidden love does to heal the wounds he's sustained from his own kin. The author has brought together two unlikely people, one human with forbidden blood coursing through her veins and a Venator vampire burdened with the task of killing those of his kind that sample her blood type. You couldn't pick any two people more wrong for each other than Kearn and Amber, yet the author is great at breaking the rules, making you want what isn't suppose to be! By the end of the book, every aspect of the story comes full circle with a battle that left me with a tear in my eye and a glimmer of hope for love being eternal no matter where it leads. And I can only hope the tortured soul that is unmasked will be redeemed in a future installment. Thought you would get a clue as to who the bad guy is didn't you! The author did a great job wrapping up all the loose ends with a hint of who might be the main character in her next Venator installment. I can't wait!
SETTING: Forbidden Blood takes place in modern day London where you will get a taste of what it is like to live behind the walls of palatial vampire estates and see the inner workings of their society. The sense of old world society at its finest!
WRITING: Ever the talented author, Felicity Heaton has maintained her books as Must-Reads and always at the top of my reading list. Her fluidity with words reals me in and her insight into her characters satisfies my thirst for a good story to fall in love with. And her attention to detail is what delivers the richness to all her stories. I must also add that her ability to deliver well formatted and grammatically correct works never fails.
CHARACTERS: Kearn is a tortured man, an outcast from vampire society, dealt a life of loneliness void of any love and happiness. Amber is a human, nothing more than a source of temptation and food for vampires. Because of her blood she is thrust into a world that tests her ability to have strength beyond those that are considered her superior in every way. From the beginning of the book Kearn's torturous life is shown through the hurtful actions of his kind. I couldn't help but feel the dullness filling his heart, as if every emotion had been drained from his soul. At first there is only the pain of rejection from his Noble family and the society he grew up in. As the story progressed and Amber slowly opens Kearn's heart, you are treated to the rush of life and love flooding into his life. I found her strength to be the backbone of the book which tied everything together by the end. Amber might be considered the weakest of creatures, but to me she was the strongest of them all!
LAST THOUGHTS: Felicity Heaton has created a story paranormal romance that will spellbind your heart and imagination with the power of betrayal, revenge, love and possible forgiveness. In fact, I find this story worthy of re-reading! Forbidden Blood is that good!
TEASER: "Amber..." His look changed, softening instantly, and the darkness left his eyes. "The only reason we can be here is because of you...because you are...Amber, you are beyond merely beautiful and outshine the radiance of the night. You are as entrancing as the moon and as stunning as the million stars that glitter around her. You are breathtaking to behold, and I am honoured to be in attendance with you tonight." ~ Venator Kearn...more
