Melissa Foster has a way of pulling you into her stories quickly and keeping you there. This book was no exception.
This plot line is much darker than her other books, and if you like suspense and intrigue, then this is a book for you. It is not for the faint of heart, as death is a major factor. While there are no sexual scenes in this book, the language might not be for everyone. In my opinion, the language and the violence that are written about in this novel, make it all the more real and in depth. This is real life written into a fictional story that could be all together true. Life is not always pretty, and this story shows you the mind and actions of a mentally disturbed person.
The characters all have deep stories behind their initial meeting. At first, I didn’t like Kara’s mom, Mimi, but as the story went on, I came to like and respect her far more. Kara and Roland are the major players in this book, and the action and conversation that takes place between then will keep you prisoner to what will happen next.
The story itself is very well written, with a very intense plot. The characters have depth that many authors have trouble portraying, but not Melissa Foster. If you are looking for an intense read, set in a place that you could only imagine your nightmares coming to life, then this book is something you will want to read. ...more

Like the first book, this was a very solid story. The flow of the writing was smooth and concise, the plot line engaging and descriptive. The characters that I had really enjoyed in the first book were brought to life even more within this sequel.
The speed of the storyline was quicker than the first one and that was good for me. I read very quickly and I like my books to move just as fast. While this book is once again directed to young adult audiences, I felt it had enough bite to it to entertain the older crowd too.
The story deals with some real life issues about adjusting in real life and the paranormal world, and while we all want happy thoughts in books, seeing real life problems just makes it all the more believable in my eyes. I am always thrilled when a book doesn't end the way I thought it would and this one for sure did.
I very much enjoyed the next step into the saga and found this storyline even more pronounced then the first. Ms. Brown did a great job of taking you on an adventure without revealing all the final details until the time was right.
Well done, and I will continue to follow the Chronicles. ...more

The blurb about the book was decent, but I was not a fan of the cover. To me it didn't lead me to wonder anything other then what that particular door would have to do with the story. Deciding to take a leap of faith on Henry Simpson's book, I downloaded and read it.
The plot line of the novel was excellent. During the first part of the book, you get quite a few characters all living separate lives in either California or Nevada. I spent time away from the book after hitting chapter 16 and couldn't help but wonder how these characters were all going to weave together in this tale. If a book sticks with me while I am away from it then that tells me I'm really enjoying it. Mr. Simpson did a great job in executing the mystery and keeping you wondering who was going to come into the picture next and how their story was intertwined with the plot line that he envisioned for us.
While the story was very strong - the weak point for me, and reason for the 4 star and not 5, was the depth of the characters. You got to know a few, Like Joey, Roman and Sandy, but the details were sketched over very quickly and I soon forgot anything particular about that character and in my mind had a very hard time picturing what they might look like. It was odd in a way to read a great book, but feel like I didn't know who the characters were.
All in all, great story, very smooth writing and grammatical editing that was mostly on point. I would most definitely read this author again. ...more

After Samantha Becker accidentally or not, has her finger cut off but her father, you will see the intense and twisted world that she lives in. Her only goal to survive her family and make it to her music auditions with one less digit.
The emotions are so well portrayed that you will lose yourself in them as Samantha deals with addictions, loss, peer pressure and then finally growth, love and acceptance in who she is. The writing was excellent and the plot line very well thought out.
From the moment I started the book until I finally set it down, I was lost in the story. It stayed with me when I was away from it and I thought about long after the last page. Being able to hold my attention like that is a sign of an excellent book.
Well done Ms. Souders, I look forward to your next book. ...more

Ms. Mann did an incredible job of showing exactly what addiction does to not only your mind and your body, but to the friends and family members that addict. Her ability to put the feelings and emotions of the addict down on paper in such a way that you could imagine what they were seeing or tasting was excellent. It was very obvious that Ms. Mann did quite a bit of research into this book.
This is a great book for any person who has wondered what the fuse is about addiction, or for someone who has a loved one suffering from it. It will give you great insight into how the mind works and why they say the things they do.

Luckily I didn't have to wait for the third installment like many others as I just found this author and series.
Another well written book with smooth verse and good editing. The domestic violence part is played down in this one and you see a more traditional vampire novel. I enjoyed Elizabeth completely! Everything she did and said held me spellbound. I was not so much a fan of Sebastian's this time though and found myself a bit irritated with him from time to time.
A great series to jump into if you are looking for another paranormal addiction. While book two left me gasping, this one left me feeling good about the ending and wondering if there will be more in the lives of these characters - maybe when Elizabeth grows up a bit. ...more

Immediately downloading it after reading the first book and very eager to find out how life would go for Serenity and Sebastian.
Once again I enjoyed the story and how Serenity had to deal with her abusive past. Marissa did a great job of keeping the emotions real about how a victim might feel should this happen to her. I could feel Serenity's tension and pain.
The writing was again very smooth and well edited. I do have to admit to sitting my my jaw hanging open at the end of this and wanted to yell at Marissa for leaving it they way it had - it was a heck of a cliff hanger! Luckily all I had to do was change books on my kindle and start Captured to find out what happened!
I'm not sure where I found this book, but I am so glad that I did. Marissa Farrar is a new author for me, and I enjoyed her writing style immensely.

"Alone" deals with a very sensitive subject, Domestic Violence. Something I know a thing or two about and I have to take my hat off to Marissa for showing the emotion and the details of a terrible subject off in a way that was so realistic. People find the topic of Domestic Violence uncomfortable and don't want to read or hear about it, yet if they did, they just might be able to help themselves or someone they love.
Add in the paranormal aspects of the vampire and it puts a whole new slant on this series. The writing was solid, the editing very smooth.
I'm glad I picked up this novel when I did and proceeded to download the rest of the books in the series as soon as I finished this one. It was one of those books that I didn't want to put down.
Thank you Marissa for putting a very serious problem into writing in a way that others may learn from it. ...more
