My only complaints were that at times it was hard to follow the Everest story line -- maybe all the Russian and Swedish names while listening to this as an audiobook? And also that the big ending scene dragged on too long to the point where I was yelling at the book to just finish it up!! Enjoyable and exciting read nonetheless. ...more

It was challenging to understand all of the Twitter and online chat was hard to understand when hearing it and not reading it. It was also a very very long book and possibly unnecessarily so. That said it was the usual clever and worthwhile read and visit with favorite characters....more
There was just too much going on in this book and it didn’t really come together for me and the ending left some things up in the air. Spoiler Alert: There was just too much going on in this book and it didn’t really come together for me and the ending left some things up in the air. Spoiler Alert: I’m still feeling a bit sick in the stomach and creeped out about the heroine dying from starving locked in a priest hole. Gruesome. Still it was worth the read. ...more

It was a good story and setting but the pace was way too slow for and belabored me. I found myself getting bored and/or didn’t care about the characters other than Erin and Danny. The characters weren’t that well developed and it took to long to get to the denouement. Still, I don’t regret spending time listening to it but it was the best Ruth Ware and I’ve read them all....more

I was so Surprised by how captivating this story was and by what a fantastic character Joe Mac is. There were many insightful moments and wisdom about motivations, political systems etc. it’s really an adventure story and obviously not higher brow fiction but I couldn’t stop listening and finished the book on my own after we only got half way through on our drive. ...more

I admit though that I was a bit annoyed for the first half of the book when she kept talking about "what happened at the BBQ" but didn't tell the reader. That's a good plot device, but I'd just read "Big Little Lies" which had a completely similar plot device where you didn't find out who died until near the end -- and I was just bored with this and wanted to know what happened. At least when we finally found out it was worth the wait!! I'd read another of her books, but I'm now curious if all of them are written this way. ...more
