Looked at from every angle, the work explains in adequate detail, of course, dumbed down for the layman, telling us that we are, as a group as well as individually, screwed. A nice touch, the author has even provided several blank forms for the reader to track their own interactions with stupidity....more

Once I realized I was dealing with bugs, somehow that made it easier. It wasn’t long till I was totally immersed in the story. I loved it. What a violent and duplicitous human society this was, living and interacting with the whole variety of the insect world, at a scale that made humans extremely vulnerable made for a new and unique experience.
My one wish throughout the book was that there was more interaction through dialog, etc., with the ants. They were used by the humans, but more as tools than being forced to deal with and interact with the ants in their culture and their society. Still, when I was shocked at having reached the end of the story, I realized I had become a fan of, and that I loved these characters and the story....more

My big take-away is that the universe is basically a dog-eat-dog world out there, and we're going to have to fight for everything we get in space, which is probably true. Other than that, a lot of the modding of the human body was inconsequential. Any new features seemed to be developed with corporate intentions, that is something that could make a lot of money. Put another way, it was something that would benefit all humanity, but in the story, was limited to the military only and for some reason, age 75 or over.
Once you overlook those areas, it's a good read. I enjoyed it....more

A good bit of the book seemed to say, here's an organization of bright people with more money than they know what to do with, very little supervision or guidance, and lets see what we can come up with. Oh, sure, they developed the basics of the internet, stealth technology and a lot of other stuff, but they wasted money and effort like it was water. My constant thought throughout the book was, shut this thing down. It wouldn't be missed. Everything they developed would have eventually been developed. I guess the thing that bothered me the most is lack of direction and accountability....more
