This author has an incredible talent. At its heart, LOVE AT FIRST is a love story between Will and Nora, but every secondary character is three-dimensional and their contributions to the overall story add such depth and emotion.
I have no idea how Clayborn can write this all-encompassing story with so many layers and different relationships and none of it feels lacking.

I think I’m biased because he reminded me of someone in my own life. I wish that everyone had their own Benny.

This one had a great storyline, but it's very much a middle novel. It's laying groundwork for the big battle ahead in the final book. Another thing that didn't really work for me was the dirty talk. I adored how throughout the novel Carey found her voice again. The dynamic between her and the Tripp’s was heavy. You could feel the tension and baggage there.
Great romance between Carey and James. The novel is also doing a lot of emotional heavy lifting, too. How do we grapple with our loyalty to someone when they’re toxic? Especially when we feel like we owe them something. I feel like this will hit home for a lot of people.

This was a charming, quirky read. I’d label it women’s fiction with romantic elements. Romance isn’t central to the story and acts as a subplot for Nina to navigate through.
Nina is very organized and structured and over the course of the novel realizes that you can’t control everything. This displayed mainly through her surprise new family and flirtation-turned-relationship with Tom.
I liked the story, but it left me wanting a bit more romance. The narration took a little bit of getting used to, as well. ...more

The all-encompassing feeling of first love was handled brilliantly. The side characters are fully realized people, and were free-spirited/protective/concerned (Tate’s mom, grandma, and friend) without being cartoonish.
Sam is a good guy. Tate is a good woman. Their second chance plays out in a setting most of us will never be a part of, but it feels real.

I LOVE a secret baby trope. It's one of favorites. This novella veered into super asshole territory with Oliver, though. I wasn't a fan of how he barges into Maddie's life and then handcuffs him to her. AT. ALL. He can't stop thinking about sex with her, and it makes him lash out at the doctor's office because he doesn't think he can go in the room and see her bare skin without trying to screw her.
Whew. Red flags all over. I like alpha heroes, but he was too much. Her friend shouldn't have let her leave with him, and the doctor should have absolutely called the police. ...more
