The main character, Sir Cumference, and his wife Lady Di of Ameter try and figure out how to make a table that can comfortably fit everyone. They have many different ideas where they have to figure out the perimeter and circumference in order to do so. Very visual and great character descriptions. I read this to my 1st grade class and they loved it. It is about a girl named Penny who receives this homework assignment that is to measure something in several different ways. Penny uses both standard units (inches, feet, etc.) and non-standard units (dog biscuits, paper clips, etc.) to measure her dog penny. She also finds the weight. This is a GREAT book to introduce measurement and start off with the non-standard measurements first. You could even have a stuffed animal dog and the non-standard and standard manipulatives to measure such as rulers, scales, paper clips, dog busicuits, and the children could record their measurements....more

Each color acts its "emotion" which makes it fun to children since the colors have emotions too. No one will stand up to big RED untilll ONE comes along and shows the other colors how to stand up together and also count! This would be great for those learning to count, recognize numbers, and learn colors. The overall message shows how to accept other people's differences and also how one can seem so small but ti only takes one to make a change!...more

Things are not right and everything has an "odd" number of things such as only having one sock, three sleeves, and his dog having five legs. The next day he wakes up, hoping everything will be EVEN, and back to normal. Things are even...but he has eight doors, six beds, and his Mom has two heads! You could create a lesson by having the students create their own odd creature making it silly looking by using odd numbers of props. The back of the book explains all the different meanings for the word "odd" including how an odd number is different from an even number and gives examples. This would be a GREAT book to use for teaching odd and even. I think that it would really engage the students and connect with them very well....more
