The police have a gruesome case where, what appears to be a rogue master vampire is using his minions to pack kill civilians. While Anita is investigating this, she discovers many vamps are coveting Master Vamp of the city's position and want Jean-Claude dead. But all Jean-Claude seems to want is Anita (like that's ever gonna happen...?). And who is this junior high teacher that is hanging around with Jean-Claude? Seems like the perfect guy, but why, is he hanging out with Jean-Claude? Then there's Larry, the new animator - really new, like, straight out of college, no experience whatsoever. The odds seem stacked against Anita, when all the poor girl needs is a decent night's sleep!!
I'm relatively new to this series. So far, to me this book has been hands down the best of the series. It's fast paced and edgy. With each book in the series I find myself liking Anita more and more. So sarcastic and guarded. I find myself being just a suspicious of every character as she is. I also am continually impressed with how many new characters are added each instalment, but are completely memorable. I never find myself saying "wait...who is that again?". There was also a couple of new creatures in this book aswell. Kept me guessing the whole time.
Anyway, completely loved it. Will be rushing out for the next book in the series. ...more

Somehow this manages to not only tell the story but give a great idea of Holly's character. What's more it's funny and sweet.
There is not a single thing I didn't like about this book. It never left my hands until it was finished. Holly's character is gorgeous. Because the story is unfolding via email, it keeps you guessing the entire time as things aren't explained for the reader the way they usually would be. Instead you have to wait until Holly decides to confide in somebody herself.
My advice? If you're thinking about whether or not to read this book, well you've already waited to long!! Go, buy, read!!...more

But when she offers to "slay personal demons" on a radio show, demons think, she means them. Everybody has a personal demon tainting them, except Megan. Now hell wants a piece of her and she's already made very powerful enemies with The Accuser. Megan may also be falling for a demon, who seems to want to protect her, or does he?...more

Anita has to try and find way to make her strained relationship with Richard work for the sake of the triumvirate. Her and Jean Claude need all the strength they can gather with the vampire council in town to try and prove that Jean Claude is a traitor.
I have to say this book took me forever to read. I was completely obsessed with this series but it's starting to wain. The constant re write of Anita Blake to the rescue ( she just keeps on unleashing more and more powers that she didn't have before) and the tension of the love triangle ( I hate hate hate love triangles), is starting to drive me insane. It's just getting way too predictable.
And I'm still confused as to how she will quite happily date either of the "monsters", but continuously goes on about how they are, well, monsters. Kind of a harsh thing to say about your loved ones.
I did find the book entertaining as a whole and I will be reading the next book in the series, but if it doesn't get much better I may give up. I have read other people complaining about how the earlier books were better and now I'm starting to see why. So, fingers crossed......more
