I enjoy stories where married people who are struggling try to fight their way back to their love. But I knew early into the story who the villain was. I am thankful that the author didn’t try to throw in all these extraneous people and plot twists. I actually liked the couple and was rooting for them to solve their dilemma. I look forward to the group read because discussions always enhances my appreciation of the story....more
While I enjoyed this book, I was ready for it to be over. I felt like I had been in the spin cycle and I am this second chance romance was exhausting
While I enjoyed this book, I was ready for it to be over. I felt like I had been in the spin cycle and I am wrung out. There was so much to unpack in this book, anything you can think of, it happened.
Let me start off my saying that author handled the heroine’s body image issues with grace. It wasn’t overwhelming but I felt the magnitude of the heroine’s insecurities. The bullying issues were also realistic and it made me empathize. One of my favorite quotes from this book was “Whoever said ignoring a bully was the best course of action was either a fucking idiot or someone who has never experienced true torment.” (Page 12). I felt that in my spirit! One theme that resonated in this book was the need to survive. Sometimes that need to survive certain circumstances led to making decisions that hurt other people, but these were young people trying to find a better future for themselves
Both Phoenix and Lennon were high schoolers from single parent households, and the loss of their mothers was something they had in common as well as a source of deep pain. When Lennon was asked to tutor Phoenix so that he can pass his senior year, these two got a chance to be a support system for each other. I really enjoyed their interaction. It was cute and endearing. I smiled quite a bit until their friendship ended.
Then when they reconnected as adults, that relationship felt a bit toxic since they were carrying around anger and guilt. Phoenix and Lennon had unfinished business and it affected everyone around them. This part of the story was too angsty and uncomfortable for me. Every time it seemed like the problem was resolving, the author would throw in a new issue. I started looking to see how close to the end of the book and I was only like 61% in.
There was so many different things going to and around Phoenix and Lennon, that I was ready for them to just separate and get themselves to get individual healing to their insecurities and family issues. I was so ready for this book to be over. By the end, I need a drink to calm my nerves. I can say that the book was enjoyable but I would have cut out 75-100 pages. I was happy with the resolution and the contrition showed by the hero. It was a good ending....more
I came in knowing this was a prequel but I didn’t know it would enjoy it so much. What a great foundation to what I’m sure will bea hard hitting start
I came in knowing this was a prequel but I didn’t know it would enjoy it so much. What a great foundation to what I’m sure will be an awesome series! Saffron is a very serious and well trained operative but clearly she is in need of some fun and relaxation. Best friend Tabatha knows just where the action is and boy does Saffron get action. Saffron meets nice guy Lachlan at the bar but decides she doesn’t have room in her life for him. Will Lachlan be able to win her over? Good writing, well done sex scenes and lots of intrigue. I’ll be checking out the next book....more
The time line of this story is concurrent with book 1 and it continues to move the plot line forward. It’s erotica for sure and aZinnia and T’kan mate
The time line of this story is concurrent with book 1 and it continues to move the plot line forward. It’s erotica for sure and a bit dub-con due to the aliens subjugation of the human race. I enjoyed the story telling and the pronunciation of the names. I found the hero to be very chivalrous to Zinnia and loved how he won her over despite the language barrier. I just could have down with less sex scenes....more
I love stories where characters grow and other characters prove to be more than meets the eye. Monique was4.5 stars. A really good coming of age story
I love stories where characters grow and other characters prove to be more than meets the eye. Monique was a preachers kid but she was really naive about a lot of things. At seventeen, she was just scratching the surface about making adult decisions and learning the consequences. I really enjoyed the writing, the way the author told this story. It was so realistic and relatable. There was friendships, family and romance in this cute story. I think I love this story for the overall evolution of everyone ...more

It’s supposed to be a mafia story but what the actual conflict is has eluded me. I do understand there is a Romantic push and pull with Mercedes and Judge but I expected more chemistry. Mercedes seems more like a spoiled brat than a ruthless mob princess so I don’t buy the tough girl act. I’m more interested in Judge’s relationship with his brother and what that means for their family Business. ...more

This story was painful but there was a measure of satisfaction that there was some joy for Paola. Reading stories about the slave trade and the suffering that African slaves endured as breeders for slave owners and the cruelty they suffered just never sits well with my soul. It always hurts but important to remember. Simon was such a special man. I’m glad they healed some parts of their lives with the love....more
3.5 stars This is my first book by this author and it was a decent beginning for a mafia series. Danika Dayal was impressive as a niece to a corrupt bus3.5 stars This is my first book by this author and it was a decent beginning for a mafia series. Danika Dayal was impressive as a niece to a corrupt business man who had a hand in the death of people she loved. Danika was very adept at being seen but not been noticed at the same time so she used that skill to become a proficient hacker. For her long term plan to destroy her uncle she had to enlist the help of her childhood friend and crush, Nikhil King.
There was a lot of push and pull between Dani and Nik but unfortunately I didn’t feel their chemistry. Their sex scenes didn’t really feel sexy and it just didn’t work. I didn’t buy the BDSM element. I didn’t feel it but I am looking forward to Nik’s brother who was thought to be dead but reappeared. That drama was set up nicely in book 1 so I will be reading book 2. .
I am more excited for the second book since it'll be about Jayna and Kiran's. These two have a more solid foundation. ...more
