Nothing made sense, the writing was crappy, and I had so many questions. My poor husband didn't want to come near me and I didn't want to talk to anyone.
I had such high hopes for this book. Kartik and Gemma would finally find a way to be together, the magic of the realms would be figured out and dealt with, and Felicity and Ann would finally become real friends of Gemma's or else be rid of. I definitely expected a little bir more maturity to be given out by those girls, at least by Gemma, because generally when a person is given a large amount of responsibility, despite their age, and consciously decides that they need to live up to it, they don't act like retarded and petty 12 year olds.
Here are just a few of my troubles...
Why the crap does Kartik turn into a tree? This doesn't make any sense. I understand the sacrifice that he is making, but there is no sign that the magic can't be dealt with in another way until the very point where Libba Bray turns him into a tree. It is retarded. There is no sense in this, unless her goal was to piss people off.
Why are Pippa and Felicity lesbian lovers? I don't get this at all. Some people have mentioned in their reviews that they saw signs of this coming. Whatever signs they saw seemed like normal female friendship to me, especially for Victorian period writing. Besides the fact I think that it was just silly, the kiss was random and out of some teenage boys lesbian lovers fantasy. DUMB! I however, was satisfied when Felicity chose the good side, despite her love for Pippa, who has always irritated me.
The writing was just bad. For someone who has published 2 books already, the writing should have been much better. The plot should have been thought out. The dialogue should have been less George Lucas inspired (by this I am referring to his ability to make very good actors sound like dunces).
I am very frustrated by how poorly the magic of the realms was understood. Obviously Circe was evil, but how did she turn out to be so much better than the the people who were supposed to be good and why did she make so much more sense? Bray turns the evil person back to good - to a degree - and than she turns Kartik into a tree? Whatever!
My final annoyance for this review is that of Bray's obsession with womens rights. Holy crap, she went a bit overboard don't you think? I thought to myself at one point that maybe it was just me and that I was a little sensitive to people and their soap boxes... until at the very end Gemma's last request for the girls to be taught how to think for themselves and blah-blah-blah. Thinking for yourself is not at all a bad idea, but honestly. Themes like that are supposed to be thought provoking, not obnoxiously present.
There are so many, many things that I find very wrong with this book. It was a very huge disappointment. I expected so much more than what I was given here.
There were enough good things that I finished the book, but I definitely would not recommend it to anyone....more

I feel annoyed by all of the negative reviews (can you say TYPE 4???), because of how much this book has impacted my life. Past reading this book my family members and I have had many more in depth conversations about the types and have practiced typing others and our children. We have become really good at it and one of our biggest complaints is how little Carol goes into the secondary types. Knowing your secondary type is almost as essential as knowing your primary type. It impacts who you are sooooo much. People who complain about how there are only 4 types, well consider this... there are 4 types and from there you can have one of 3 secondary types (which then follows that you will probably have smaller amounts of the other types in you as well). The primary type is just what you naturally feel more comfortable leading with and is a healthier option for your energy. If you believe then that truth can be found in more than 1 place you might consider that on top of your energy types and whatever percentage of each you might be (not that I sit around trying to calculate it) you also have your personal life and experiences that add to who you are, you also have the day you were born (astrology anyone?) which can pinpoint your zodiac sign as well as more details such as your moon in whatever planet or however that all works. You might also take into account your religious beliefs. There is so much that adds to who you are as a human being. WHen you really get down to it Carol is not trying to get anyone to fit into a tiny box, on the contrary she is trying to give you permission to be who you are and not who the world says you should be. She is giving you permission to look outside of the box that the world puts you in and determine who you are and how to best serve the needs of yourself and the people around you through your gifts and abilities. I love it. Like I said, life changing. Many nuggets of truth within this book that have helped me to understand myself, my husband, my children (and by the way for the first time EVER my husband feels like he understands himself a little more. This is the only personality typing that has ever felt validating to him)....more

I bought it a couple of years ago when I was working at the BYU Bookstore. Mario Facione was there doing a book signing and thought I'd get the book signed for my VERY inactive brother, due to his love of mafia movies, etc. Anyway, Mario wanted to hear about my brother, so I gave him brief description of his life and here is what he wrote "Christopher, think about what you're doing." Anyway, I totally got to scared to give him the book after that, because I was afraid of how he would react. After reading it though, I have decided to send it on. It is a very inspiring book that will help smack your priorities in life straight into place. AMAZING STORY....more
