**spoiler alert** More a 2.5 - I hopped into the series on this book, but don’t think I’ll read more. The mystery was solid - nicely plotted, but too many asides pulled me away from the story. Rather than the character calling someone, we got details of who they tried first, who they tried second, who they finally got ahold of, how the Bluetooth connected etc. Not one but two scenes had a police officer knocking on the heroine’s car window because she pulled off to the side of the road to make a phone call. Yes, that is the correct thing to do, but the police officer didn’t appear again or have any relevance to the plot. Once was enough to build character, but having that moment repeat twice set this reader up for the expectation that the interaction was important. It wasn’t. Some readers might enjoy the relaxed pacing and space in between the plot points, but it wasn’t to my taste.
