But now, I consider myself so lucky because I am introverted, a blessing that I took for granted. This book makes me take a leap forward onto self-discovery. I am kinda reflective person, heed taking, not people oriented. These traits have an advantage in the long term: they lead the person to be deep, so meticulous, and creative. The problem, however, they cease to help you with any situations requiring spontaneity and rush . The result is that I am sometimes stuck, having nothing to say and ending up being clumsy. Also, I have a problem with any kind of social performance, presentations, team works , interviews... Etc( although the work quality exceeds the expectations, most of the time, but still) These traits made me misunderstand myself in the first place, not to mention the people around me. I thought I might have a social- anxiety or any kind of social-related disorders. I always struggle when I have to improvise So,I should prepare for everything and spend a lot of time before presenting something in public. I feel I can be more creative if I work alone, not with a team. All these characteristics put me in awkward situations sometimes. ' there is something wrong with me, I am sure' I keep saying this to myself, up to the point that I started to feel I am not normal.
Susan cain's book helped me a lot in changing the way I was looking at myself. Simply, I found out that all the characteristics I mentioned above are pretty normal with introvert people like me. I was relieved. I am not alone, I do not have a problem, a real problem. My problem was that I wronged myself , that is it. And I am sure other introvert people, some of them, might have underwent the same thing, the misunderstanding of oneself. And why all of that? Because we live in a biased society that prefers gregarious, outgoing, talkative people even if they have nothing to say! We, introvert people, feel that we need to do something, we need to change ourselves to be able to survive in this world. Every thing now, either in schools or in practical life, seems to be group-oriented and based on interactions, collaboration... Etc, as if working alone becomes an outdated method that kills creativity and clears innovation( who told them that, I wonder)
Susan Cain will help you to maintain yourself as u r, an introvert, but with a new perspective. She will let you discover your power and tap into it, your power that is derived from the same qualities u were bothered with. It is like double-edged traits. Also, she will charge your power through people's stories, who were able to overcome their obstacles and engage themselves in life, and be successful leaders, presidents, or lecturers. And even better, u will find out that most of the scientists, inventors, influential people are introverts ? Why? I highly recommend you to read this book to find the reason behind this. Believe me, You will love yourself more, appreciate your traits, and most importantly, you will be a different person....more
