It does seem Middle Grade as the stakes of the game get higher. I liked the parent and child interactions. The parents were involved! The friendships were fun and the game was interesting. Definitely worth reading if you like games with clues. ...more

I enjoyed reading this book. I made my niece read when she came over. Then I made another family member read it. They all loved it.
This is a great place to start if you have never read a graphic novel. If you already love graphic novels, then this won't disappoint you. The colors, timing, and artwork is adorable and snappy. Make sure you read all the way through the author's and artist's comments. They are gold.

Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a mysterious book hidden in the stacks. The book contains odd fantasy stories and then he reads a story about his life. He then discovers another realm where the characters of this mysterious book are real. It’s a Follow the Rabbit/Alice in Wonderland style book.
This book refuses to be read quickly, because the book is chopped up into tiny chapters. There are short stories from books-within-the-book. The fairytales and myths are enchanting with a touch of melancholy. The entire book is a brilliant exercise of creative writing and structure.
It’s a dreamy poetic book with boring characters. I never cared about Zachary Ezra Rawlins. I didn’t know who the villain was and it didn’t have a lot of action. The story spoke in great detail of quiet moments between any action. While anything that moved the plot along was left to the readers imagination. The book is content to meander through an alluring mystical world of stories while drinking craft cocktails. Really, the descriptions of the cocktails were my favorite part. If had a shot of gin anytime a character talked about the importance of stories I would have been sloshed by the end of the book.
I wanted to love this book. I was so hyped to read this one, but ultimately it was a disappointment.

What is not to love about this cheeky Murderbot? The narrator, Kevin R. Free, expertly captures Murderbot's nonchalant and curious tone in the audiobook.
I didn't know much about this book before I started, because I wanted to be surprised. Sometimes this strategy backfires, but in the case I was pleasantly rewarded for my ignorance. I was able to go along for the ride see where the story led.
The tone and the pace work together to create a jaunty and dangerous romp through space on another planet.
If you liked The Martian, then you would probably enjoy this book.
This is the first book in a series and I can't wait to read more. ...more
