A fabulous sequel, this book was just as exhilarating as the first. I am seriously loving these books and one of main things I love is the snark and biting wit of the characters. Especially Jessie. I seriously love that girl, she is just all kinds of awesome. It was fun watching the relationship between her and Lukas develop more. They are a great couple and couldn't be more perfect for each other. They had some really sweet and some really intense moments and it was fun watching them bicker over how far to take things as Lukas is so old-fashioned. A character that I am growing a bit of a soft spot for is Valefar. He may be Jessie's "Master" now, as he likes to remind her, but there's more to him than meets the eye. I'm definitely eager to find out more about him in the next books and learn how deep his ties to the Darker family runs.
Like in book #1, there was plenty of action and some really kick-ass scenes. Never a dull moment to be had. There was also lots of twists and turns and shocking truths revealed which just had me glued to my kindle. I was hooked! And I really loved the connections between past and present that were unveiled. It was really interesting learning more about the Darker ancestors. The book ended with dozens of questions still to be answered so I can't wait for book #3 to see what is to come next for Jessie and gang. The wait is killing me!...more

I really don't know what to say. This series just keeps getting better and better. Everlost was a phenomenal read and I really don't know how Knoebel expects us to wait for the forth book because I need it NOW! Everything that is revealed in this book left me reeling and had my head spinning with scenarios of how it is all gonna play out. Of course Knoebel loves to throw in surprises so I was constantly second guessing as to what would happen next. New players are introduced, and with them comes revelations that, I personally, have been dying to get.
Knoebel's writing is one of the best I have ever come across. Her way of telling a story is so all consuming, so intoxicating, that everything around you disappears and all that is left are her words, her story. She has such a magical quality to her writing, I found something worth highlighting on nearly every page.
I'm not gonna say anything else because I don't want to spoil the story. If you haven't started this series yet then you are sorely missing out! This series is seriously amazing and I cannot get enough of it. I'll be sad to see it end....more

This was just as awesome as I knew it would be. I seriously love this series and these characters so much. The gang is all back together, the stakes are higher, and the tension and suspense is off the charts. Seriously I was biting my nails during one part because omg it was intense! This book will put you through the emotional wringer. Kirke is evil like that lol.
I'm not really sure what else I can say because I don't wanna spoil anything. But if you haven't started this series yet then what are you waiting for?? I'm not sure if this is the last book in the series or not, but if it is then it was the perfect ending. Action packed, intense and emotional, this is one book you do not want to miss. A must read!...more

The blurb and cover immediately grabbed my attention, and the fact that JLA loved it just sold me on it. And I'm glad to say that I enjoyed this book immensely.
Salt is the story of Penelope and her quest to get her magic back from the demon that killed her parents. I really enjoyed Penelope as a protagonist. She's very witty and has great determination. And I loved Carter. He was adorable. There is a lot of mystery behind him but he wasn't the typical moody bad boy type. Sure he was arrogant and overly confident but he still had really sweet moments. His and Pen's interactions were so fun and they had great chemistry. They were so snarky towards each other and I love that type of humor. One thing that did sort of bug me and so added to the reduced star rating is that I felt it was a little bit insta-love. Not overly in your face insta-love, but I still felt like the "I love yous" were a bit premature. I would have liked it to have been left until the second book but I still liked them together.
The story is full of action, with plenty of fight scenes to keep you entertained. Even though Pen has no magic she isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. Although saying that, I did find myself wanting to shake some sense into her a couple times. She didn't really think some things through and you would think that she would be more prepared. I mean who leaves the house without salt when you know it's the one thing that will protect you? Come on girl, use your head. Along with all the action, there is plenty of mystery to keep you second guessing as to what is really going on. There were a few surprises and I really liked that. I love when a book has the ability to surprise me.
Overall this was an action packed adventure, filled with wonderful humor, a sweet romance, and numerous twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. The author has created a magical and creative world and I look forward to continuing on the adventure in book 2.

I was really looking forward to this book as I really liked Playing Hooky. I was so excited to get back to Jason and Emma's story. Sadly though the book was a bit of a disappointment. While the story idea is exciting and enjoyable, and I loved all the different magical elements, the execution wasn't that great. The writing felt a bit stiff and disjointed. It didn't really flow that well. And I was left a bit confused at times too. There were some continuity issues and just too much packed into the one book. Because of this, some scenes felt very rushed. And even though I was so looking forward to more of Jason and Emma, I just couldn't really connect with them. I felt like there wasn't enough emotion conveyed. The book is told in dual 1st person POV from both of them but despite this I still felt very disconnected from the characters. I did like the banter they had between them though and they did make me laugh a couple times. There was more romance this time round too (which I always love) but again I just wasn't feeling it.
Despite all this I still enjoyed the book and I like where the story is going. The writing might not be the greatest but I could still appreciate what the authors were trying to do. I feel like I should have re-read Playing Hooky because I didn't think the writing was that bad in that :/ Or maybe my standards have changed, I'm not sure. I will more than likely read the next book as I do want to know what will happen next.

This was a really fun and extremely quick read. I loved it. The banter between Emma and Jason was incredible and there were many laugh out loud moments. As per previous birthdays, Jason takes Emma on an adventure that she'll never forget. He brings her in to a world that she never knew existed. I loved all the different creatures that were featured. I was really curious about Jason too. I'm pretty sure I know what his deal is but I'm looking forward to finding out more in the next book. From the very first page I couldn't get enough. It was very well written and captures the readers imagination. But the reasons I reduced a star were 1) I felt like it was waaay to short. It was only 100 pages. I would have loved for this to be a full length book. Because of the length I felt that things happened a bit too quickly. Which leads me to reason 2) When Emma is first introduced to all these creatures. I think she handled everything way too well. She never really questioned anything. She just took it all in her stride. I would have liked a bit more of a reaction out of her. Overall this was a quick, fun and exciting read that I would highly recommend....more

This books was just as fantastic as the others. She has created a great YA paranormal series that takes the reader on a breath-taking journey through a world full of magic and wonder. I love everything about this series. Harper is such a strong character. She really grew in this book. She became more independent and started to fight back and stand up for herself and for what she believed in. Her relationship with Jackson took a new turn as well. They faced new challenges and my heart broke for Harper when she found out the truth about Jackson. One of the things I love about this series is...no love triangle!! Yay! :D Ha sorry but it's a refreshing change from all the other books out there with their pesky love triangles. This book was full of action and suspense. Right from the beginning we are thrust right into the fight. I loved seeing the demon world and seeing how the shadow demons lived. I liked all the new characters we were introduced to, especially Essex (I think that's how his name is spelt). Him and Mary Anne are so cute together and I really hope something happens between them. The ending was something else! What a twist! Although I did kind of see it coming. The only complaint I have is that now I have to wait until the next book comes out to find out what's next in store for Harper and Jackson! If you haven't read this series yet then I highly recommend it! It is such a great read and perfect for all YA paranormal lovers out there. Full of romance, suspense, action and magic, this series will take you on a journey you will never forget.
Now hurry up and release Demons Forever! :P...more
