One of the most engaging books I’ve read for a long time. It came up on the library “dead items” list and I had to decide whether to keep it, relocate it, or discard it. The fact that it’s now back on the shelves and getting a little display time is evidence of how much I enjoyed it. The five narrators who weave this story have authentic voices. The story of one day unfolds inexorably to a shocking conclusion - but of course most of the book is backstory as we get inside the heads of the family members.

I thoroughly enjoyed this tale of the Camino. It has the light touch of the Rosie series but also demonstrates an ability to develop a character a little more fully. The account of the various segments of the Camino (if you can give this collection of routes a singular 'the') is engagine and authentic. It's one thing to have walked the routes themselves as Simsion and Buist did (twice) but an altogether more notable thing to be able to present the setting and the characters so colourfully. The most difficult thing would have been knowing what to leave out, and to write so the work doesn't come across as just a chatty guide book. Highly recommended.
