This is probably one of my favorite settings I have read in romance. I just love it so much and this was a charming addition. Now I will be honest in that this book might not be for everyone. It is much shorter and the heroine is a bit off putting at times and I really struggled with her attitude towards our hero. Once you get the full story in her past, you find more understanding but at the same time she pretty much punishes the hero for a crime that someone else committed against her and it just seemed like she hadn't really come to terms with her past. I truly loved the hero he is so kind, thoughtful and stubborn in his pursuit of her. I really admired his tenacity in not giving up on her even when she can get pretty mean at times. Quite frankly I feel like he deserved someone that treated him better. But I did love seeing their interactions once certain aspects get resolved here. Very sweet and had a certain charm to it. ...more

TThis review was originally posted on Addicted To RomanceI received this book for free from St. Martin's Paperbacks in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Duke I Once Knew is the first book in the newest series by Olivia Drake. I just love this author because I always know that I can easily get into her books. I was very curious to see how she would handle this book here though. And it was such a great book to read here. I was really fascinated with seeing how this book evolved. It does have some enemies to lovers qualities, but its more over a misunderstanding between Max and Abigail. They fell in love when they were teenagers, but then Max was sent off to school and his father deliberately seperated them because he knew that Max was falling in love and wanted to give him distance.
And now its been many years, both Max and Abigail are older in their early thirties, and when Max comes home, Abigail has taken a position as a governess for Max's sister. We see though that both of them had tried to communicate with each other but somehow the letters never reached their intended destination. We see Max and Abigail reconnect with each other and seeing them get over their past assumptions and hurts and be honest with each other is truly refreshing. I loved seeing them find each other again and the love that has always been there between them. What I really admired about the complexities about their relationship especially since we have other factors involved. With all the distractions that could cause some contention between Max and Abigail we see that they have something vibrant and real that rises above all the negative moments that they have to face and seeing them come together in this book was simply an adventure and a fun filled journey to join them on!!! A true pleasure to read in every way!!

Breathless is a book I was really nervous and excited for, its the third book in the "House of Rohan" series by Anne Stuart. I was introduced to this series last year and I have just fallen in love with the slightly more erotic and gothic like feel to these books and these alpha reformed rakish heroes that this author writes. These books ARENT going to be for everyone. They are deep and packed with suspense and intricate sub plots and they are a bit edgier so if you looking for something fluffy...go the other way hehe but if you are always on the lookout for something with a bit more depth in a regency historical....grab up a Anne Stuart. These books are also narrated by a very talented narrator.
Breathless is book three in this fabulous series and the heroine of this book is the sister of the Rohan clan. She is much loved by her family, and this family is very close knit and support each other no matter what happens or what foolish decisions they make. Our heroine, Miranda, is seduced and then forced up to Gretna Green, but before he can make any marriage happen, she is no longer a virgin thanks to his forceful actions but she manages to escape but doesn't tell her family the real truth. But now she is disgraced in the eyes of society and is considered an outcast. She lives on her own, with her own money and independence. She decides that she wants to be daring so she ventures to a party by the Heavenly Hosts and there she meets up with Lucien who is also known as the "Scorpion". We also have a side to side love story with her friend Jane who meets up with a infamous jewel thief. Jane is engaged to a man that is boring and dull but respectable but she yearns for adventure and passion and has a stolen kiss from a thief who puts on a diamon ring on her finger that she is unable to get off her finger.
Our hero Lucien, has a plan for revenge against losing his sister and he blames the Rohan family and he wants his revenge to be sweet. So he plans on seducing Miranda and having her become his wife and to send her to his estate in the north where she will be away fromo anything or anyone she loves including her family. But Lucien doesn't realize that Miranda will be a fitting mate for him. Matching him for wills and wits and will also soften the ice around his heart. But will his plan for revenge be worth losing what he has gained with Miranda?
This man was truly like a scorpion, a poisonous sting when one least expected it.
What a fabulous and well written story and even though it does have its flaws, I simply adored seeing the book evolve the way that it does in this one. What we have in this book is a story that won't be for everyone to enjoy. Its a bit darker than you normally find in historical romance and most especially with a regency theme. It does have a more sensual quality to it and these books do display more darker heroes than your normally find even for a rake. But I actually find these books entertaining and refreshing from the norm of the regency romance that is so common now. This story is one of revenge but we also have a sweet side story that I dearly loved....Jane's story. I was definitely rooting for her and her jewel thief because boy they won my heart from the first chapter. I couldn't wait to see how they would end up together and I actually was just as invested in their story as I was Lucien/Miranda's story and they are told side by side because of the event timeline and it really works. I really have admired the way that Anne Stuart writes her books like this, and it works for me. Of course, I will warn you, if you listen to this book, it does take a few chapters before you are fully into it, but you will become sucked into this book and the bantering and sexy times that are put in.
"My hair covers my scarring."
"But we've agreed that no one notices your scarring once they're around you. You woo them like a big, fat hairy black spider, and no matter how much they struggle they're helpless."
"For some reason I can't quite imagine a spider wooing."
The other downside to this book is the ending, I was admit the ending was so disappointing in a way. I kinda felt like it was way too abrupt and wanted more with the ending especially with how it climaxes in the end for Lucien and Miranda. So I definitely expected more. However, despite the ending that wasn't my favorite, the story was well worth the listen. I had a fun time listening, this book had me laughing and it gave me a few tears too, but it also proved to be a provacative read that leaves you hungering for more from this author!! A TASTY DELIGHT!!

Shadow and Ice was a book I was SUPER stoked to read. After listening to an interview with Gena Showalter about this upcoming series, I just was really eager to grab this up. So I jumped over to B&N and bought this one in print. I did have this on my nightstand for quite a while before actually grabbing it up. I think I was really NERVOUS, because of how many mixed reviews of this book that there is out there and I just was not wanting to hate a book that I bought in print. But seriously....why oh why did I wait so long to read this because I have three words: It KICKED ASS!! I had so much fun with this book, and I honestly knew that I would because this authors writing always works for me no matter how crazy her stories gets, her writing sucks me right into the story and doesn't let go.
Shadow and Ice isn't an easy book though and its NOT for the faint of heart, and you have to know that its get really brutal and boy this author knows how to kill off people and not easily either. But from the first chapter, I was addicted to this new world that Showalter has created for us and even though it did take two days to read (it is close to 500 pages) so its not a small book, it was highly engaging and keeps your brain and body on the edge all the way through. I think you need to warned beforehand how intense this book can be because if I hadn't known beforehand I might have had a different opinion. But I know this author, and love her writing style. I was captivated by this pair and the world building and the teaser that leads us to the second book and man I want it NOW!!
This story begins with our hero, who is a slave to his king and has to do his bidding. But he has been promised his freedom and the freedom of his people if he wins the third all war he has participated in. He has many tough exteriors, but deep down he has vulnerabilties including losing his daughter because of the all war. He is know at the third All War, which takes place on Terra (aka Earth) and is frozen in time and centuries have gone by. He is discovered by our delightful heroine. Vale and her sister Nola, are celebrating finishing college and accomplishing something no one ever thought that they would. Vale grew up on the streets, going from foster homes and surviving as best as she knew. She is tough and resilient but also loves fiercely. When they go exploring caves, and discover a man frozen in ice, she is drawn to this gorgeous male specimen and wants him in a sexual way even if he is frozen in ice. But then before she knows it, she is pulled into the all war and she and Knox join forces to defeat their enemies and even though she unknowingly becomes a participant, she doesn't know if she can trust Knox not to kill her but what she doesn't realize is that Knox is falling for her just as hard as she is falling for him and they will have to make a difficult choice and who will win and who will die? or will they have the HEA they deserve?
This book is like Hunger Games but for adults. Now I have never read Hunger Games, but I have watched the movies and yeah you won't get me to read those books, I would rather have my teeth extracted. However, this book totally worked for me in many ways. It is heartbreaking though to see certain characters being killed though and seeing all these combatants who at the heart are good immortals, but they each have something to fight for and they are all enslaved to the whims of their masters. So it is heartbreaking at times to read this book because of seeing this horrible situation and seeing some of them FIGHT back against those that are enslaving them.
“Yes. Me. I'm an immortal made for war, and killing is what I do. What I'm good at. I do not live by the same rules as other people, those who do not have to fight to retain their liberties, those who let others do the fighting for them, then scoff at the results."
We see Knox and Vale go through some difficult challenges in this book and seeing them overcome what they face is epic in many ways. Their love story ISNT easy or light hearted and it will rock your core in good ways and bad ways. We see how much they care for each other before they become enemies, and seeing them try to overcome the circumstances to be together is truly what makes this book an incredible experience. There are so many emotional moments that are going to break your heart but you also see the strength these two have together and seeing them fight for each other and for a future full of love and peace is so worth all the pain. Their journey isn't an easy one but unforgettable in many ways. This book will be sticking with me for a long while and I just can't wait for book two because I have a feeling that book is going to be kick ass as well!!
Overall I found Shadow and Ice to be packed with adventure, intensity, brutal at times and poignant in all the right moments.....A TREASURE TO DEVOUR!!

Undaunted is an in-depth well-written gem where the truth of opposites attract really exists.....a cold-hearted billionaire and a sweet gentle-hearted woman who learn to see the best of each other and find an HEA despite the odds against them.
Undaunted is the 52nd book (according to the author's website, Goodreads has it as 48) of her Long Tall Texan series and I will admit that I haven't had the pleasure to read this author too much. I have really liked her books, so I am not sure why I haven't read more of her. I will say that I was a bit nervous to read a book dealing with a jerk hero, since those aren't always done well but ironically he was done very well in this one. Even though in the first third of the story he is a bit of an ass we also see the way that he has some depths to him that you don't quite see at first. We have a lake shore setting for most of the story which just worked so well for this story. Undaunted is a story that is about learning to love unconditionally.
The key players to this opposites attracts romance are:
Garrett Carlton, a billionaire, hard around the edges, but is like an onion....many layers to unravel Kate Martin, our heroine, works as an assistant to an author, sweet, kind and loving.
The story begins when Kate comes to Georgia, to help maintain the lake house that her boss and friend owns. Kate is originally from Texas and grew up with an abusive father at times. She is eager to make a name for herself and be on her own. She sees the good in people and never judges them. She is all about working for what she has. She then has a horrible run-in with a Mr. Garrett Carlton who yells at her and is really rude and almost has Kate in tears. When her boss leaves for Europe, she stays to take care of other tasks and to see to her lake house. While driving a boat on the lake, she accidentally runs into a jetski that Garrett was on, who hits his head and becomes blind and loses part of his memories including his memories of her. When he offers her a job as his assistant she agrees, seeing a new side to Garrett. The man beneath the harshness and cold revere personality on the surface. Soon it becomes that Garrett and Kate have a strong connection to each other. But what will Garrett do when he learns the woman he loves is also the woman who accidentally caused his blindness and memory loss.
I will admit that at first, the story turned me off especially in seeing how mean and rude Garrett really is. Of course, we see a deeper side to him and see why he is the way he is. But he has such a strong personality but Kate calms him in ways you don't see at first. She brings him balance and helps him to relax. Kate is also a virgin, she is innocent, but so tender-hearted. I really was drawn to Kate's personality. She is so real and even though a bit naive when it comes to more worldly things, she knows what is really important. She has her own dreams to be a wife and mother one day. She wants to be loved and to love someone in return. She knows that man is Garrett, but she also fears how he will react when he learns the truth. What becomes a pivotal moment is when the smoke clears and the truth comes out, that both Garrett and Kate learn that when love is reaching out, to hold onto it and never let it go. They both learn about sacrifice and loss and how much they need each other and truly care about one another. It had its predictable moments of course, but then this story would take a turn that I wasn't expecting and I loved how this predictable story was full of unpredictable moments that just make this book shine.

But what shocks hThis review was originally posted on Addicted To RomanceSummary Laire Macleod's father, has remarried again, a elusive widow. But what shocks her is that upon the arrival of their new step mother. How obsessed her father is, or the strange way her sisters are acting. Laire discovers a plot, and its taking over her whole family but she is not affected. She is the only one that can save her family and she refuses to give up on them. But she is being hunted by her stepmothers huntsman, Iain Lindsay. But she has a goal in mind...reach her uncle who has knowledge of poisons and can release her family from the spell her step mother has placed on them before its too late. Iain Lindsay, has had to serve for seven years, and is contract is almost up. But for the first time, he wants something more than what "The Lady" desires, he wants to protect and love Laire Macleod. Even if its at the cost of his own life... Plot and Story Line The Lady and the Highlander is the most recent work in the Highland Fairy Tales. Now this book takes the place of the fairy tale of "Snow White" and man this was fun. And Snow White is the more rare of fairy tales that I have read, you rarely find a romance retelling of this one, and so I had such fun with this book and Cornwall did a splendid job creating this story and there are many similarities with the real story. Our Laire---is beautiful and caring. Our hero is the huntsman for the "Evil Lady and Stepmother" who desires to be the most beautiful out of all the land. And wants the 'heart' of Laire and demands her huntsman go after her and get it. Then we have a journey that Laire takes to find an antidote for the curse placed on her family. She stumbles upon the "seven dwarves" or a group of thieving children who aid her in helping her find her uncle in return of her cooking and cleaning for them. So there are some really strong connections to the actual fairy tale that I enjoyed quite a bit. And this story really is the "edge of your seat" kind of book. It can get pretty intense at times. Our hero starts out as a bit of a anti hero, or a hero that is torn. He has had a rough time of it, and we see him go on a inner journey of his own, where he looks at himself and decides to go against our evil stepmother at a very pivotal moment in the story. The timing of everything just fits right and I really liked how everything plays out in the end. The romance that develops between Iain and Laire was quite interesting. In the beginning of the book, we see them have a "moment" of chemistry and connection. So that connection plays a part especially with Iain and his struggling with his inner demons. But the moment he decides to help and save her, changes everything between them. I really enjoyed seeing them build their relationship despite the dangers and conflict that surround them. I have to say that I had a blast reading this book, and it does have a slightly darker theme than the previous two books, but than our villain of the story deals with dark magic...so it is expected but this author created a beautiful retelling of Snow White and I can't wait to see which fairy tale she does next. The Cover I love this cover, with the red cape and the forest in the backdrop. However, I do feel like it has a more "Red Riding Hood" feel to it than Snow White. Overall View The Lady and the Highlander, is a truly magical and thrilling fairy tale retelling that takes you across the wilds of Scotland and into the heart and passion and mystery of this people....MAJESTIC AND BEEAUTIFULLY TOLD!! He has changedThis review was originally posted on Addicted To RomanceSummary Nick Sebring has come along way and has his own demons to fight. He has changed since being the rebellious Sebring brother. While working undercover, his fellow agent and the woman he fell in love with was shot in front of him and its been four years and he vows justice for what he has lost, losing the one person that changed him for the better. His target is to get a foothold in the Shade crime family, and bring down the man behind everything and bringing down their organization. Olivia Shade, is one of the two daughters of the Shade Crime Family. Olivia has been stuck in a tough position, she is different from her sister and her parents. Her hands aren't white clean, but she is a practical prisoner, she once tried to escape and her own father burned her back with oil and she knew she could never escape and will always be under their thumbs. Her only escape was a private club, where she meets Nick Sebring. Nick has ulterior motives, but soon his heart start to get involved with Olivia, and finding a way to be together with her family more dangerous than ever, might be impossible with their lives intact. Plot and Story Line In Sebring, the long awaited story of Nick's story. Now when we first meet Nick in the first book "Knight" he is a ass plain and simple. Like seriously, he isn't the type of bad boy you would want to be with. He has some serious issues with his brother at the time. Now, however he is a completely different person. Working undercover for the government and falling in love changed him for the better. We get introduced to a man that is heartbroken. He has just lost his girl in the most horrific way possible, and barely survived himself. This is what sets us off with the story so it really draws you in. Then we skip four years, where Nick has been watching the whole Shade Family. But his focus is on Olivia, she is his way in. Now I will say that as a whole I enjoyed this book quite a bit, however it is probably my least favorite of the series. I wasn't a huge fan of the way these two get together. Pretty much just have sex like bunnies for quite some time, it felt like a bit too much at times. Now I started to really enjoy the story when they start to open up to each other. So Nick was such a great hero in this book, I love seeing the good changes in his characters and seeing his closeness with his brother and Anya and their two little girls. Our heroine Olivia is actually quite likable. I like how she has a good heart especially when you see how crazy her father and sister are especially. She is in a tough spot but she does what she can. She has always dreamed of being safe and free and it was quite heart wrenching at times seeing what she goes through here. But I love how committed Nick is to freeing Olivia from her psychotic family.
“And I’m the man who’s got two priority missions. To get you free of a life you hate and to get you to a place that you smile, frequently and easily.”
We see how their romance is very forbidden, since it could cost them their lives if they get caught. So yeah there is quite a bit of intensity and suspense in this story and this is where we see their relationship really develop. And this is where I started to fall in love with the story. I loved the way everything plays out in the end and seeing how hard Nick has to work and grovel to get to his HEA!! The Narration I just am loving this narrator so much, her voice is so pleasant to listen to and she really conveys the emotions just right for the story. Definitely looking forward to listening to more of her work soon. The Cover I absolutely love love LOVE this cover, such a beautiful scene here!! Overall View Sebring is a hot and intense read that will keep you on the edge of your seat, a story of sacrifice, healing and love!!
So I Married A Sorcerer is the second book in the Embraced series. And first off I want to menThis review was originally posted on Addicted To Romance
So I Married A Sorcerer is the second book in the Embraced series. And first off I want to mention how GOOD this book was, just as good if not better than book one. We have our heroine, Brigitta, who grew up on a island, along with her other adopted sisters. Brigitta knows that her fate is destined with the number seven and that it will happen very soon. While traveling with her fellow sisters, to join Luciana in the birth of her child. What they didn't expect was a mysterious and dangerous man, an infamous pirate who needs Brigitta to get justice for the crimes done against himself and his family. Rupert has had to become a pirate out of necessity. And he isn't your average pirate leader either. He is also one of the "Embraced" and has special gifts especially when it comes to the wind. He is only looking to get what he deserves, and unfortunately that means putting an innocent woman at risk.
So I Married A Sorcerer is a brilliantly written installment in this new and exciting series. In this book however, we have a sexy love story that takes place on the sea and a bit on dry land. At first it begins as your hero the big bad wolfy pirate kidnapping the lovely heroine for his own "purposes". However there is a lot more to it than that. Brigitta's father slaughtered Rupert's family, the legitimate family to take over the kingdom. They have only reaped power and wealth from the people from this kingdom, and never give back. Rupert has plans to take over the throne again, and become the kind of ruler his people deserve and can respect and support. Now at first, Rupert is a very mysterious character that we see. And boy did I love the aire of mystery and intrigue that surround him. I never know what to expect from this character and these twists give back to the reader some ins and outs of a story that leaves you on edge and the dynamics of the story are never ending. I honestly had no clue that this story would go from a pirate romance and turn into our heroine battling for the man that she loves, but also for what is right. Once she learns the truth behind Rupert's past and what terrible acts her family have committed, she wants to right those wrongs even though she is very innocent.
The romance that is written here is sweet and poignant and still full of sturdiness and passion to add various levels of depths for any romance reader. What I really enjoyed about this pair, is how well they end up complimenting each other and how well they fight for each other. And boy do they fight for each other, in all the most important ways. We see the beautiful ways they connect on deep levels of intimacy and how they give back to each other constantly. And quite honestly I was feeling humbled when reading their love tale, seeing how honest and fresh and vibrant this was. You will be hanging onto every word, phrase, paragraph and chapter that you see them together. You found my heart, all shriveled up with hate and the need for revenge. And you filled it with love and joy. We become introduced into some entertaining secondary characters that will make you laugh continually. Rupert's friends are simply entertaining and of course we get some fun bantering that leaves you smiling from beginning to end. So I Married A Sorcerer is not your typical historical fantasy that we have opened to us. This author has built up some wonderful world building and we get to learn some fun facts about this world that Kerrelyn Sparks has created and seeing these various lands become real and vividly portrayed in such a way that holds your attention and refuses to let go.
This isn't a story that is predictable, sane, dull and without excitement. Its the exact opposite of everything that you would expect, because this book takes so many twists and turns that you will barely be able to keep up. I advise readers to go into this story with a open mind, plenty of free time, and expect plenty of adventure, passion and some levels of danger and intrigue that will make your day go from average to "on top of the world" thrilling. Be ready for a story that is guaranteed to keep you on your toes in ways you can't imagine.....A ROMANTIC PEARL!!

From Duke Till Dawn is the first book in Eva Leigh’s “The London Underground” and I was super excited for this book especially after reading the third installment in the series “Dare To Love A Duke” and where I was charmed by Alex and I really wanted to read his story and was delighted when I saw this book available at my local library. I had a fun time with this book although I do want to mention that the beginning of story is a bit stunted and might throw the reader off, I recommend sticking with the story because it does improve the more you read.
She wouldn't have believed such an honorable, principled man would make love to her like he was born for the task. As though his only desire was to give her unending pleasure
The Duke of Greyland has never fully gotten over the one woman that he fell in love with who was a widow in need and they had a passionate one night stand but then she disappeared and he never heard from her again. But when his two friends drag him to a gambling club, he runs into Cassandra again and he is shocked to see her alive and well. But then Alex learns that Cassandra is not the woman he thought she was, that she was never a widow and that she played him all those years ago, since she is highly experienced at being a swindler to survive and Alex is furious.
I'd been like an automaton, going through the paces of my life mechanically, dutifully. But you've taken me from the confines of my comfortable, familiar world and introduced me to danger, and excitement and a giddy sort of joy.
Cassandra, was born on the streets and she had to learn how to survive in the best way that she knew how by pick pocketing, or stealing so that she wouldn’t have to deal in prostitution unless she had no choice. She has grown up working with thieves and swindlers. She is currently working with a man who taught her to swindle and is like a father to her and in their current venture planning on setting somewhere else and have a fresh start. But then she runs into Alex again and when he learns the truth he is feeling betrayed and she is the cause of that betrayal and she has never felt remorse until now because she loves Alex and has never forgotten him after all these years. But when she is betrayed herself and her father figure abandons her and many other relying on the money they gathered together in their gambling club venture, if she wants to survive she will need to go to Alex for help and hope that he will forgive her one day.
He was everything she dared to dream of but could not allow herself to expect
From Duke Till Dawn, was a enjoyable read, and it may not be my favorite from this author, but I had a fun time with this story but it did take a while before I started to really enjoy it. Its a page turner, so no worries are being able to get into the story but it did start out a bit strange for a second chance romance. There wasn’t any flashbacks (which I was alright with) but it was the way the story was told that seemed a bit unbalanced in the first third part of the book. But then something changed and this is when the story really started to work for me. I really loved the growth of the characters in this book. Cassandra learns about regret and committing wrongs and the guilt that comes with taking advantage of other’s generosity. And Alex learns about the lives about those that live in the underground of London, about poverty and desperation and what some people will need to do in order to survive. He learns the value of forgiveness and redemption. I adored seeing these two grow together and learn to accept one another and their pasts.
You're the woman I love. Courageous. Strong. Wickedly intelligent" He touched his fingertips to the underside of her chin, holding her reverently. "I want all of you. And I want to give you all of me"
From Duke Till Dawn is a story that is packed with adventure, mystery, emotional growth and a sexy romance that is pure sensation!!
Breathless is the second book in the trilogy and I have been looking forward to this one everThis review was originally posted on Addicted To Romance
Breathless is the second book in the trilogy and I have been looking forward to this one ever since I picked up book one. I finally got my hands on it, and I will admit I had some pretty high expectations for this book, and I was left feeling a bit disappointed. It wasn't what I was expecting, especially when I loved Forbidden, the first book.
Breathless is a story that features two people who knew each other when they were younger but life got in the way and they each had their own journey to take until they met each other again as full-fledged adults, much more mature and ready for what was to come for them. Portia Carmichael was abandoned by her mother who prositituted herself for money. She and her sister found a good life with their aunt and uncle. Kent Randolph has spent his life searching, and being a bit of a rake of the wild west. Now he has returned to the one place he felt like was his home and to his "duchess". Portia is very serious about building her own business and working for her aunt and uncle. She has no interest in love or dating. She is content working with her numbers. But then Kent comes back, and she is having to face with her old feelings for this handsome man that she wants to feel nothing for but does.
I did enjoy the beginning of the story, seeing these two banter like two old hens, their interactions were pretty funny and I just couldn't get enough. We see the good life that Portia and Regan (her sister) have found with their uncle and aunt Eddy and Rhine (couple from first book). We see the closeness that Portia has with her sister. But wow these two couldn't be more different from each other. Portia is consumed by the seriousness of life, and Regan just wants to live life to its fullest. She wants to experience everything, most especially passion and love. So it was interesting to see Portia figure out what she really wants in life, and that there is more to life than just building a career. Seeing some true depths of self discovery, and learning to experience desire and the building of a intimate relationship was the highligh of the story for me. However I did have some issues. Quite honestly, I think I might have had too high expectations for this book. I don't think I have been so let down by a book by Jenkins. I have always enjoyed her work. ALWAYS. I know I am not in the "popular" opinion here however the middle of the plot felt flat for me. I had a hard time connecting with the actual romance. It took almost a whole week for me to read this. Now for some that may not seem like a long time, but I read a book a day. So I really struggled with this story. The first and latter portions of the story were really great, but the middle I took forever getting through.
I am however super excited to read book three though, Regan's story which features her being a mail order bride (yep yep super super stoked for this one, since that is one of my all time favorite tropes in romance).

He is in his element when he is in his uniform fighting for his country. But then he receives the worst type of news, that he has become the last living heir to a dukedom. and is now the Duke of Lattimer. He is frustrated with his new role and all the responsibities and people he is responsible for. But when he hears news that one of his properties in Scotland is in trouble, he heads up north to figure out the problems behind the steward who isn't trustworthy and very vindictive of anything English. When he arrives he is confront by a young woman that is the reasons behind his problems with his property. Fiona Blackstock, hates anything English and the last thing she needs is some war hero of a Duke coming through and ruining all of her plans. Fiona hates Gabriel, but Gabriel is charming and is only intrigued by her fiery spirit. But there is a mystery to be solved of missing sheep and Gabriel with Fiona's help, learns how to help those under his care and win the heart of the woman he desires most... Plot and Story Line I really have struggled with Enoch lately, I never know if I will like her books or not, and at first I was really liking this one. But the moment Gabriel and Fiona started bantering with each other, I started to go from liking this story to really getting frustrated with it quite a bit. Fiona was too angsty of a characters and seems to be very selfish at times. I felt that she went to far, but Gabriel was quite patient and understanding and he almost seemed like a saint at times because he rarely got angry with her even when she treats him so horribly at times. I really struggled with the romance that developed between these two. I felt quite bored with it most of the time. The only thing that really kept me interested was the plot, with the mystery of the missing sheep and I did like seeing how Gabriel wins these scots over though. He was a real sweetheart at times and I felt he deserved so much better than a heroine like Fiona. I will say that some of their sensual moments were quite enticing and very well done but I didn't quite feel their chemistry like I wanted to. It happened in moments and bits and I really wished for more consistency in a romance and would have preferred not seeing so much angst in their relationship. I don't mind angsty romances but they need to be done well. Another reason I really struggled with this one, is that it didn't feel like a historical, it had a contemporary feel. It felt quite confusing at times, because there were inconsitensies that shouldn't be found in a historical.
Now don't get me wrong, I have quite a bit of love for this author, and her other highland romances I really enjoyed, but there was something that didn't feel right about this story and it didn't feel like Enoch's style. I did like some other aspects of the story, and I didn't hate it or dislike it; it just didn't fit for a solid historical romance I know Enoch can write. But I can see how this story will appeal to certain readers. The Cover Simply gorgeous, I just love the red and a really sexy pose!!! The publishers did a great job with it. Overall View Hero In The Highlands is a story that if you are looking for an angst romance....than you should pick this one up. It has moments of sensuality and bantering that is appealing at times.

I have heard some pretty great things about Maisey Yates, and so when I was offered a chance to read this, I picked it right up!! It sets off when our hero and heroine wake up together, naked in a hotel room, and evidence that they got married in Vegas of all places. Our hero, Colton West has done everything to be there for his family when they needed him. His fiancee has stood him up at the altar, and he finds himself getting drunk with a woman he doesn't necessarily like but feels a attraction to. When they find themselves married to each other, they decide to make the best of the situation. Lydia is running for mayor, and getting a divorce would ruin her chances. So she convinces Colton to stick through it until the election is over.
I really enjoyed the set up of the story, and seeing a marriage of conveience (or fake marriage) turn out with a happy ending. I was intrigued by the politics of Colton's family, and I am curious about the other members of his family. I liked the chemistry between Colton and Lydia---some powerful intimate scenes were written quite well. But I felt a bit disconnected with the actual romance and couldn't get fully engaged in the story. So even though this aspect was a bit disappointing, it was a enjoyable story with charming characters and a cute little town. I do plan on trying this author out again! :) ...more

Connor wasn't alpha of the pack yet, and did what he could to protect her. But when she went into heat, they shared one night of passion but shortly after Connor kept something from Savannah and she has never forgiven him. Now she is pregnant with twins, and Connor is the father. Savannah has kept out of reach from Connor, needing her space and trying to move on with her life. But Connor is resilient and stubborn and tenacious and won't give up on her. Connor will do anything to get Savannah back in his life, he has loved her since high school and is determined to show her how true he is and will stand by her...if she lets him into her heart again. Plot and Story Line Now I was super excited to read this story and I thought their story would never be written!!! Since it started with the ending of the first book of the series. We see in this story more of Connor and Savannah. But in the previous books, we see on the surface of who Connor really is so it was quite enlightening to get an exclusive view of him inside and out and I loved him even more than I did previously. In fact, despite what Savannah has gone through I had issues with her. Her treatment of Connor didn't really make much sense to me. Because I felt like she was very bitter at times and lashed out on Connor in some not so nice ways. Yes Connor made a mistake, but it wasn't an unforgivable one. Eventually though Savannah gets over it, and they get some happy times together. And boy this book rocked, because not only do we get a solid love story---but more shenanigans from the primordials. (shapeshifters from before the ice age) And these men are worse than kids at a candy store. They are attempting to try to become accustomed to everything in the modern world (and they are ancient ones) so even seeing them try out getting an ice cream cone---was hilarious. Gave me barrels of laughs for days just thinking about that scene. Because honestly these men are adorable and cute even if they are a bit outrageous in their alphaness. The Cover Definitely HOT!! Look at those abs----man they did good with this model for sure. Not sure how I feel about the only undies as clothing---different for sure. Overall View Alpha Ever After is a simply fantastic love story that takes you through a roller coaster of emotions and some fun moments to keep you smiling. DELIGHTFUL!

With her mother having passed away, a man who has always been like a father to her, Louis Montague leaves her all of wealth upon his death if she agrees to marry him on the day of his death. Leah inherited her mother's business, but she is struggling to make do. Monty sees her as the daughter he never had, and wants to make sure she will be taken care of. So Leah reluctantly agrees, knowing how important it is to him. But there is one last request, to make sure the two sons he had but had never really been a father to, and so she travels to Colorado to fulfill Monty's dying wish for his two sons. Along with her, is Cecil, Monty's best friend. But upon arriving, she meets one of his two sons Ryder, who is full of anger and bitterness against his father. He views her as a money grabbed, and doesn't trust her at all. But when she is put in a difficult position, fork up fifteen thousand due to past debts Monty's never fulfilled or go to prison. Ryder makes her an offer she can't refuse, be his lover and he will give the fifteen thousand to the courts to save her from prison. Soon though, Ryder and Leah feel a connection to each other. However lies and past secrets could tear them apart forever. The Hero Our delicious hero is Ryder Damien. Ryder is one of the most powerful men in the state. Despite his rough upbringing, with no father, his mother murdered, and raised by his Cheyenne grandmother, his life hasn't been an easy one. He is used to many despising him for his mixed roots. But despite that, he has made much wealth for himself. Ryder despises his father, whom he blames for his mother's horrific demise. What I grew to really like about Ryder is seeing how much he learns in this book. You see quite a bit of character growth. He tends to make rash judgements and I love seeing him getting turned upside down with Leah. Ryder was quite a fun hero to get to know though. I loved seeing his fortitude, strength against so much especially when he was young. He is a fighter and a sensual lover. The Heroine Leah was a heroine I just wanted more of. She is a character that in the beginning you aren't too sure of. But we see she gets thrown into a horrible position and has to make a difficult choice. But she never gives up on the truth and believing in Ryder. She stands on her own though, and even though she keeps certain things from Ryder, it is very understandable why she does so. Before she travels west, she doesn't have a clue what she is getting herself into. She has always known love with her mother, Monty and Cecil. They are her security blankets. But we see how much she stands on her own when they are taken away from her. She is one tough little cookie, proud and spirited but still has a sweet nature too. Plot and Story Line This story takes us from the streets of Chicago to the small workings of a town in Colorado near Denver. This is a period of growth of the State of Colorado. And wow does this author wow me each time that I happen to pick her up. This time we see more of the damage that many American's dealt to the Native American's of the time. We see this because Ryder is half Cheyenne. Some horrors happen to him when he is a boy that is just heartbreaking but in reality is what makes him into the strong capable man that he has become. I did like seeing how Beverly Jenkins brings in the historical relevance without taking anything from the story. Its more set up as a background for the characters. I did enjoy the interactions between Ryder and Leah in the beginning. Some fun bantering, powerful chemistry becomes built up and some hard lessons are learned between these two that are so spirited and have to learn what it takes to make a relationship work. We also have a shocker in the end where we learn the truth behind all the secrets of the past. And the true villain---turned me upside down. I almost passed out, it was such a blow but what a turn of events that happen here. We also see that Ryder and Leah have to climb through some mountains of mistrust before they get their happy ending. Ryder is the type of man that LEAPS to conclusions, but in the end he always makes up for it in other ways. I loved the way that Leah handles him though. She is firm yet understanding too. I liked that balance and there are some good side characters to fall in love with. What a powerful love story this turned out to be and I am only eager for more from this author. The Cover I really love the purple background, it definitely fits the cover so well!!! And braided hair on the hero----different but so COOL!! Overall View Before The Dawn is a romance that takes the reader on a ride of adventure through the Colorado Rockies----through secrets, misunderstandings, truths that are revealed and above all a happy end to make you sigh in happiness. TRULY A GEM!!!

In Full Moon Rising, Riley Jenson along with her brother, are what considered half breeds. Riley is half vampire and half werewolf. But her werewolf side is dominant from her vampire side. Riley despises vampires, and it still boggles her mind about what her brother Rhoan does. He works for the Melbourne’s Directorate of Other Races, this organization is basically the police force for supernatural creatures. But when Rhoan goes missing on his latest mission, she knows that something is wrong. That Rhoan is alive but has been taken by someone., Riley is shocked when Rhoan's friend and a vampire shows up on her front door. What is worse, is that Riley is about to go through the "Moon Heat" a weeklong affair, where the full moon affects her body in a carnal way. Thankfully she has two partners already available, but while on the hunt for her brother. But who she really craves is Quinn, the vampire that heats her blood like none other.
In Full Moon Rising I was highly impressed with this story. This is a author I have heard many things about, but haven't read her...until now and I can tell you right now that this won't be my last read from her. This one was a bit more sensual than I was expecting, but the scenes were pretty short but plentiful. What I enjoyed the most was Quinn and Riley and seeing the beginning's of their relationship. We see how much they are beginning to care for each other, even though a relationship can never happen. Quinn was recently betrayed by a wolf that he was in love with. And he will never risk himself ever again. I really liked Riley as the main feature of the story. We see her spunk and her charming personality. She isn't afraid to have sex when she has the need for it...she isn't ashamed of who she is. But we also see how much she craves a mate as well, someone to share a life with and have children with. So even though she is a bit brazen at times....she was refreshing and I am eager to see her in the rest of the series.
Overall this was a wonderful book and this one left me excited to try out book 2 especially with a bit of a cliffhanger, not to the story but to the romance, and since I like my HEA....it seemed like a cliffhanger for me. But in all honesty...I truly felt swept away into this story and I couldn't get enouhg. Job well done Keri Arthur....you have me hooked.

From the moment of their first meeting, Liam and Mena, felt a sizzle of chemistry that sparked between them. Liam has had a rough life, sacrificing himself for his brothers, doing what needed to be done in the battles in India for Britain but now he has come home, wanting to be a father to his children who have never really known him and being the leader for his clan. He doesn't believe himself worthy of Mena, who is beautiful, smart and sassy. She is the first woman to stand up to him, which only intrigues him even more. Mena is on the run, hiding from a husband that treated her in some of the worst ways. She is slowly rebuilding her confidence but despite her growing feelings for Liam, she knows that there is a line she can't cross....despite how much she is falling in love with her Demon Highlander. But the truth will come out, which will test both Liam and Mena and the love they have for each other. Plot and Story Line The Highlander is the most latest story in the Victorian Rebels series. Now this author has really impressed me, quite a bit. This author has a refreshing style of writing for historical romance that has blown me away!! So I was so excited to pick up The Highlander and I wasn't disappointed at all. From the start I was instantly drawn into this story. And boy does this author captivate the reader with some intensity from the very beginning. We see at the start, where both characters are coming from and hints onto certain traumatic events that have effected both of them. I thought the way Byrne handled this book, was pretty well handled and she pulls in the reader with depth of character. Now the chemistry between Liam and Mena is SUPERB!!! I love the way Byrne handled their connection, probably better than the first two books (which I loved) but there was something uniquely different about this pair. I can't quite put my finger on what made this romance different, but it had more complexity to it that intrigued me. We see how at first Liam and Mena resist the attraction that they feel for each other, but Liam has a turn around realizing how his feelings for Mena outweigh secrets or trauma of the past. And man when Liam decides he wants Mena for good....nothing and no one can stand in his way.
I found myself seeking ye out because somehow I knew that I couldna be apart from ye. It was the first happiness I ever knew to look into yer eyes. Ye taught me the meanings to words other than forgiveness and redemption. Desire. Yearning. And love. Ye are my blanket of stars, Mena, my reason to look to the heavens. My map when I am lost and my point of light when all is dark.
Now another aspect I really liked was seeing Mena's relationship with Liam's children. Both are older, in their teens but Mena really adds some positive influence on them. I love how well she connects with these kids, and boy they were quite fun. They added a more lighhearted twist to a more serious toned story. What a beautifully written story this author has created here. Its dramatic, emotionally centered and an engaging plot that keeps you fascinated. I can't say enough good things about this book or this author. If you have yet to pick her up---get the first book NOW!!! The Cover What a beautiful cover we have here right??? I love the hues of blues and greens we have here!!! The pose is sexy, but sweet and romantic. Love the sunset backdrop!!! Overall View The Highwayman is a vibrant, and powerfully provoking story of redemption, love and the depth of human nature!!! EXCELLENT

Her plan is to seduce him and when he is vulnerable...kill him. All she knows is that Eric Aruda is evil and must be taken out. What she doesn't expect is to be attracted to the villain. He is sexy as sin, and temptation. When she uses her gifts to astral project, he believes her to be a dream but convinces him to meet up with them. But when Fonda gets Eric alone, sparks fly between them, despite the fact they are enemies. However before anything explosive happens, a enemy is after them. A enemy that is one of the greatest threats, and Fonda and Eric are forced to work together. But their enemy is also after Eric's fellow teammates and outcasts. But soon Eric and Fonda realize how large the threat to them is, and they are running out of time to destroy their enemy before he destroays them all. The Hero Eric Aruda, along with his teammates, are not just close friends and family. They are the offspring of experiments gone wrong with their parents. They all inherited their gifts, and they vary. Eric's gift is fire, and he can engulf any object or any person in flame. But lately his gift has been used too much, when Eric was forced to kill his enemy, when that enemy almost made him kill a teammate. His brain is starting to break down with sleeplessness and hallucinations, but he doesn't give up on fighting. Especially when he teams up with Fonda, he will need every asset he can muster to convince her of the truth of who he really is and that they don't have to be enemies. Eric is quite the hero. He gets the job done, but does what he needs to in order to protect those he loves the most and only when it is absolutely necessary. He has mocked romantic love in the past, but upon meeting Fonda, he starts to see things differently and I loved a hero that accepted his feelings naturally. The Heroine oh good ole Fonda....how I love thee. This was such a refreshing heroine, and was quite the assassin, but not really a true assassin. She doesn't have the heart of a killer. And after a few chapters you see why. Fonda has been terribly misguided by her previous boyfriend, and my heart really ached for her. Because she starts to learn aspects of her characteristics of her character she didn't realize she possessed. She also learns that she can do more than astral project, and that there are others out there, that can aid her in reaching her full potential...including a group that she believed to be her enemy. But when that enemy aids her, helps her she begins to think with a clear mind. Fonda hasn't had a easy childhood, almost raped and has learned to defend herself. She is tenacious, stubborn and strong willed and passionate. Plot and Story Line HOOYAH!! Boy was this story quite a wild ride of adventure, passion and thrilling intensity and so creative. This author really did a fantastic job with this book. Now the one thing I will say is I wouldn't recommend reading this as a stand alone (you can if you must, however I do wish that I had read this series in order) there were some things happening, that I didn't understand at first, and I had to be patient in the reading so that I could understand this world that this author has created for us. I was confused especially in the first half of the book, but I realized it was due to the fact that I hadn't read previous books where certain events take place that lead up to this story. But man did I fall in love with this couple. They are the king and queen of making an angst relationship work and where it didn't drive me crazy. You understand from the beginning that they are enemies that are forced to work together. But with each chapter, you see them falling hard in love with one another, and it was quite entertaining to see the process of them easing into each other and this new found relationship they have.
The set up of the story, is so interesting and I loved the idea of alien super powers with humans. (view spoiler)[Although, we do see that its not aliens that they have in their bodies. Its more different dimension of beings that live in their world but on a another plane of existence. (hide spoiler)] What I truly loved about this story is how its all put together and the way the plot proceeds and evolves as you read through it. It changes consistently, and I honestly never knew what to expect. And we get an insight and some scenes from the team of friends here. Now this team---they rock the house. I mean literally, just reading this book and getting a glimpse into how they work together was simply fantastic. We also see one of the couples in the first book, deal with some struggles and how their relationship gets tested and I really liked seeing that. We see how much they care for each other and support one another. Their bond to each other is stronger than iron, and even though that bond gets tested, we see how much they mean to each other and they are willing to fight to the death for each other and that is powerful and the author writes it so vividly.
The action is intense and there is quite a bit of mystery because they have more than one enemy that they have to deal with and I really liked seeing how Eric and Fonda handle the opposition and come out on top!! What a ride. The Cover Its rare to see this tone of pink in a romance cover, and I really like the overall look to it. Sensual and vivid. Overall View Burning Darkness is a wild ride of action, danger, angsty romance that leads to a fierce desire and a powerful love worth fighting for!! SEXY AND WILD!!
