So, Meredith gets to some remote place in North Carolina to get over her divorce. She's to spend 4 weeks there. On her first day, she goes swimming and continues masturbating naked believing she's alone. Luke sees her, and instanty decides she's the most amazing woman ever (just based on the fact she's naked and pretty, since that's the first time ever he sees her and he knows nothing about her). The next day they fuck and continue doing so for the next 7 days. Then they both realize they're in love with each other. After 7 days of fucking.
How could that get more than 1 star I will never understand....more
This is how this book was supposed to go. Lets say I'm the Mister and I'm telling the story.
(view spoiler)["Hi. I'm a guy who does nothing my whole life. My brother was a real role model, an earl. Now he's dead. I loved him very much and now when I've inherited the title, I'm gonna do everything I can to make him proud. Oh, look, a beautiful girl! I like her, I want to make her mine. And she has some real problems. Hmm, she has problems and I have all of that money and have just decided to do something good with my life. Let me hide that girl and start a campaign against human trafficants all of the other bad guys. Let me call all of my pfriends around the world who could help. And since you're reading this, let me show you how I'm gonna do that. After all, you came here to see me doing something with my life. So, I'm gonna *insert all the scenes and the effort he does to catch bad guys*, and in the meantime, I'm gonna spend some quality time with this girl I like. Poor her...she's unfortunate, but talented. Hmm...maybe I could help her. I could introduce her to some of my friends in music industry...maybe that would help her onbe day. Or offer her to continue studying here in UK, or something similar. There are so many ways I can help her..."
See, in this case, the Mister would have a goal to achieve, something to do. And we would have something to read about. But no. What we got was this:
"Hi. I'm a guy who does nothing my whole life. My brother was a real role model, an earl. Now he's dead. I loved him very much and now than I've inherited the title, I'm gonna do absolutely nothing about it. I'll just keep lamenting about his death and about how big of a fuck up I am. But you're gonna like me because I'm a manwhore, hahaaaa! So I've met this girl who is mostly quiet all the time, but I somehow like her (obviously, because she's pretty, since that's the only thing I'm interesting in). She's in some kind of trouble, so I'm gonna hide her - it completelly selfish actually, going away would let me escape from my brother's wife whom I've slept with. So while I take away that new girl, I'm gonna show her around my property and have sex with her. I'm not really gonna do anything about her problem until the very end of this book. No need to show you anything more than sex scenes. But I do wory...what if her fiancee has more money than me? OMG, that would be horrible! So, okay, since we've spent a few weeks together, while doing absolutely nothing (she plays piano so I could've offered to pay for her classes, or find her the instructor, or even offert to pay fot her to continue going to the university. You know, to help her move on and make a new life for herself - but why would I do that? That takes some effort to do...) I think I wanna marry her. I'm soooo reformed, right? Right!?" (hide spoiler)]
We have two characters with no goals and no goal means no freakin' reason to read the book. This is the rule no.1 of writing: the characters need to have goals they will try to achieve. Ask anyone!
She actually scares me. WTF is with the way she speaks? She sounds like a 15 yo child. Like she can't shape a thought in her mind. She's 23 and never saw a penis but had seen so many works of art? Where? In one city she has spend all her life in, that has 16.000 people living in it? I live in a town of a 40.000 people, with a rich history, and the only place you can see pieces of art (that show nude men) is in one single museum. The only thing we ever read about while reading her POV is how handsom he is, and how many shirts of his she has to iron. She calls him Mister? Why? This only makes her seem more young and immature. Please, I really need people from Albania to tell me if that kind of life is normal. Please. Because I honestly have a feeling the author just made all of us in Balkan look like illiterate, ignorant and planely stupid idiots.
And her fiance? An Albanian man who speaks fluently Croatian (okay, let's say I belive you...maybe) and English. And calls her "carrisima"? In Italian?
Character development? Ever heard of it? Did any of the characters change through the novel? In any way? Nope.
I'm gonna stop here because this could go on the whole day. But let's just take a look at how some of the scenes and chapters are written. We have a few chapters divided into smaller parts (2-3 pages) where the characters talk about really important stuff (she talks about her family and the way she traveled to England). See, those parts are separated because the author has no idea how to incorporate the conversation into the plot. Because there is no plot. The plot would be them doing something and having a conversation while their're doing it. But since they aren't doing anything, it was the easiest way to insert the important conversations into the book.
I liked FSoG (even though there were problems with the way it was written). Some people hated it. And I wanted to see if James has polished her writing style and stooped making the mistekes she made in FSoG. She didn't. If this book was written by any other author, I guarantee it would have never been published. But James wrote it, and the publisher knew she would sell. That is the only reason this book was published. It's not the book, it's the author.
This is, no doubt, the worst thing I have ever written or reviewed....more

Sofija i Kasije u neku ruku je memoar, a prije svega je izazov suvremenom čitatelju. Roman obiluje ličnostima i karakterima, latinizmima, konkretnim slikama životne sredine tadašnjih ljudi, njihovih običaja i ponašanja, povijesnih činjenica te fiktivnih ličnosti i događaja.
