Lucas grew up in an undesirable part of Chicago, raised by his older brother after his mother left when he was very young and his father emotionally checked out. Lucas was on a path of self-destruction until his brother gave him a dose of tough love and made Lucas challenge his negative energy into something positive, football. Now on the verge of entering the NFL Lucas is about to start a whole new chapter of his life, one which he hopes is away from Chicago, a city he has a love-hate relationship with. However, fate has other things in store for him when he is drafted by the Chicago Bears.
Hot Stuff makes you believe in fate and destiny, with Lucas having to confront the barrage of emotions he has been holding back throughout his life in his hometown. Reconciling the aspects of himself he always thought he knew to the new reality he is facing. Due to his upbringing and lack of a female nurturing presence in his life, Lucas has remained emotionally distance where the opposite sex was concerned, but neither did he embrace the hook-up mantra other players possess. Instead, he has condemned himself to loneliness and the occasional romp. That is until Gillian comes crashing into his life, literally.
The only problem is Gillian is more than a little off-limits, being the coach's daughter and a member of the team's injury therapists.
Gillian has grown-up surrounded by all things football, without a mother, her upbringing was a little nomadic. Something her father has deep regrets over, and clouding his judgment where Gillian's life is concerned, wanting her to put down roots and live a 'normal' life. Even if that means giving up the things she loves the most because her father is unable to see past his own regrets in order to fully understand his daughter.
The connection between Lucas and Gillian is beyond the physical, they smooth each other's edges. A relationship between the pair is inevitable, however, the barriers to anything long-lasting are unavoidable making their time together limited and with a definite expiration date. Something they both thought they would be able to deal with when the time came. They hadn't factored in the depth of their feelings as the clock starts counting down.
Kim takes us on an unusual path as the story unfolds although there is never any doubt that Gillian and Lucas belong together. The journey they take to their happily ever after is one via heartache, family revelations, honesty and being true to yourself.
I'm really hoping Kim will give some of the other players on the team their own stories, Kutch and Thor please Kim xxx...more
