The book started off when Bailey Jennings became the new surgical assistant of pediatric spinal surgeon Dr. Matthew C. Russell. At first, their relationship was a RIOT. Matthew is known as an aggressive, rude surgeon in New England Medical Center and Bailey was pressured to work with him. She was a nervous wreck knowing that he has fired his previous surgical assistants because they can't handle his temper. But as soon as Bailey was able to pick up her stressful work and Matt's presence in the surgical field, it longer deterred her. She gained back her confidence and was able to challenge Matthew.
I have only watched a couple of episodes of Grey's Anatomy and somehow I was able to relate this book to the TV series. The back-and-forth silent banters and the undeniable sexual tension between Matthew and Bailey in the operating room were certainly fun to read.
I liked that the book was light-hearted just the way it was presented. There were a lot of scenes that made me laugh like an idiot. And gaaah!!! I totally swooned over Matt! He's basically one of those perfect male characters who's rough on the outside but sweet on the inside.

The story was well-done. I loved that it sat something in motion from enemy to friendship to lovers vibes and in the end it all worked out for them. I just thought that maybe... just a little, their romantic development went faster than I expected. I expected more conflicts between these two characters, and perhaps more banters. It would really make the book a lot more perfect!
I noticed that the writing style of R.S. Grey improved a lot in this book. I've read her previous books like Scoring Wilder and A Place in the Sun but I wasn't wowed like I am in this book. I especially loved Bailey and Matt's respective POVs and how they were so engaging and very entertaining.
You won't regret reading this book if you want to have some feel-good reads. I would very much read another R.S. Grey book soon!
Wow, who knew I'd end up liking this? Never judge a book by its first few chapters, indeed. I almost DNF-ed it considering the heroine really 4 Stars!
Wow, who knew I'd end up liking this? Never judge a book by its first few chapters, indeed. I almost DNF-ed it considering the heroine really annoyed me but I was patient enough and guess what, the book got better a few chapters ahead until the end.
Then You Happened was a unique book to devour. It gave me a Nicholas Sparks and Jude Deveraux kind of feels with its calm and quiet countryside setting shadowed with a wistful writing style that made me feel like I was actually there.
When Tatum "Tate" Knox lost her husband Fletcher, she was not only left with a misery but with a mountain of debts to pay in order to continue their small ranch from running. She met Jack Sutton when she was in the process of hiring him as her ranch manager. Their first few encounters weren't pretty though as they bickered because they just can't stand each other. As the story progressed, Tate realized how badly she needed his help. Jack obviously had the expertise to save her sinking livelihood. But other than that, she didn't realize that she was slowly falling for him. What started as a steamy sexual attraction between them became something else. And while their feelings advanced into a whole new level, they discovered that they've been keeping secrets from each other, ones that may ruin them.
It's my first K. Bromberg read and I definitely loved her writing style. Hands-down beautiful! It actually made me want to read her previous books such as the Driven series which I have been eye-ing for such a long time. K. Bromberg's way of narrating the story was truly compelling that it was hard for me to put it down despite the fact that, as I mentioned, the heroine got on my nerves the first few chapters.
It wasn't really easy to like Tate at first. At times I got so frustrated especially the way she initially treated Jack. The way she dealt with her failures and her sadness were also a bit of an annoyance. She was an immature character. But then I slowly warmed up to her when I understood everything she went through especially at how the people at Lone Star made her the star of their daily gossip. Ugh, that must be really aggravating! Tate's character improved quite remarkably though and I was glad. It was worth my patience after all.
Jack, on the other hand, was a very likeable character. He may seem to be an arrogant man but he has soft sides that will make you melt deep down inside. I loved how he was patient with Tate and how he was there on her side, protecting her in times of challenging situations.
The romance was very well-done. It was a combination of sexy and sweet and I loved it. There was also a set of family dramas thrown into places that made me cry. It was, as a whole, an emotional and un-put-downable book. If you fancy country romance reads, then you must give this one a go.
This is my first P. Dangelico read and I should say the writing was totally a winner. The characters, the setting, the banters-- oh, definit3.5 Stars!

You Can Have Manhattan starts when Sydney Evans, the general counsel for Blackstone Holdings, was offered by her boss and owner of the company Frank Blackstone a marriage of convenience to his son Scott Blackstone. Frank has a terminal illness and he worries that his son won't be able to handle the company when he passes away so he has to delegate the responsibility to Sydney as the CEO. But the employees would be skeptical about her abilities for the position so he convinced her to marry his son so she can have the power to enforce to everyone that she is certified for the role.
Sydney didn't like the idea because aside from the fact that she will marry someone without an ounce of love, she personally disliked Scott who's known for his reformed playboy and party animal image. Scott, on the other hand, doesn't like her because for him she is like an ice princess. Cold and heartless.
I loved the enemies-to-lovers and arranged marriage trope in this book. And the fact that this is an adult romance is an added bonus. Sydney is 34 years old while Scott is 38. I rarely read books with this age range so it's refreshing for me. When it comes to the chemistry, there was certainly a lot of it between the main characters. And the every day banter-- it was fun that it made me smile at times.
What made me rate the book lower though was because I found the plot a bit common. I've read this kind of plot and series of events before which made the whole story quite predictable to me. However, all in all, it was a sweet and sensible romantic read. I loved the slowly but surely romantic progression as well. Sydney and Scott didn't fall automatically in love at first. In fact, they didn't even feel attracted towards each other, but their love meticulously bloomed in a well-paced progress and this is something that I appreciate in this book.

“Once upon a time, a mere mortal fell in love with a rock god. You probably know this is not a fairy tale by now. Mortals and gods don't mix.”
THIS BOOK. OH MY GOD. It is worth going straight to my favorites list! It was just the right book, the right story, the right angst that fed my craving for a rock star romance.
Midnight Blue is an enemies-to-lovers book that highlights the story of Indigo "Indie" Bellamy and the famous British rock star singer Alex Winslow. It started out when Indie was hired to babysit a recovering drug addict Alex who just came out from a rehab. Of course they didn't have a pleasant first meeting. Alex didn't like Indie, just like how he disliked his previous babysitters who didn't last long.
“Welcome to my mess, New Girl. It's a bumpy ride from here on out.”
I wouldn't go over the next series of events. Please go surprise yourself! ;)
I admit that I didn't like the book at first because Alex was a straight up asshole and he was really mean not just to Indie but to his band mates, manager, agent, and the people around him. He was bitter and selfish, but I know nothing about how a recovering addict acts so I decided to have patience with him and see what happens. Well, Alex's character developed remarkably bit by bit and I was thankful. For me it was worth it. I loved how real his character was no matter how he was defined as near perfection.
“Because when Alex was hurting, he wanted the entire world to hurt him. And in that moment in time, I was his world.”
I also loved Bellamy's character. She was strong and lovable and I found her passion to her family which equals her passion to arts incredible.
The romantic development progressed slowly at first, letting you discover their lives outside the stage lights and how their inner struggle with their families made them stronger together. You can expect a story with a moderate amount of angst here, but the sizzling romance... oh my God! The romance really did good.
“The way you look at me when I sing and play reminds me why I started doing it in the first place. It reminds me there's nothing else I want to do-- can do-- and even though there's something tragic in that, a man with one destiny, you take the edge off.”
I absolutely loved L.J. Shen's writing style. I was especially drawn to it and her addictive prose. The thing is, I felt like writing a rock star romance is a bit challenging for authors as it requires them to put so many aspects and it could either prosper or fail but in this book, the theme was very well balanced and all the things I am looking for in this genre was met in all equal measures.
Over all, this book got me. It actually made me want to read more rock star-musicians themed romance books and I gotta do it now!
“When I look at you, I don't see regret and pain and suffering. I see the biggest opportunity, the sweetest promise, the road I should be taking.”

I liked this one better than the first book. One can never dislike an Enemies to lovers and pretend lovers theme, especially when it's written by one of the best NA authors like Elle Kennedy. If you have read her previous books the Off Campus series then you will know why. ;)
The book started off really nicely. Jake, captain of Harvard's hockey team, has always been determined to win the game against all the teams they encounter in the ice. That being said, he doesn't want any distraction in the team, including hook-ups and relationships. But can he fool himself when Brenna, daughter of Briar hockey team coach, makes him feel more distracted?
There were certainly ups and downs in this book. But what I loved most about it was how I felt connected to the characters. Jake was swoon-worthy and man, he's got all the points for Mr. Perfection. Brenna too was a great character and not difficult to love.
I guess the reason why it wasn't a 5-star read for me was because I just needed more! Like more Jake-Brenna interactions, more swoony moments. Yes, the sexy scenes were a total win, but maybe Elle Kennedy could've added situations to make-up a really good story for them. And please, I would've loved a strong ending.
One thing to take note about this book is that the story was not just about the romance. It also has some family drama with a twist of past-relationship history on Brenna's side. It was refreshing, however, I admit I got weary reading the side-story. I just wanted to focus more on Jake and Brenna. The present. And oh, I thought the Hollis and Rupi thing was a bit unnecessary, too.
All in all, a nicely written story that I mostly enjoyed. If you want to meet a perfect book boyfriend, this is the book!

“There are no guarantees in life; you know that. You could decide tomorrow that I'm not the one for you too. But guess what? I know that this... what we have? It's worth the risk.”
Sweet, flirty, sexy... This is one of those books. And I liked it. Even if it's not the usual book that makes me 100% connected to the story, I thought it's enough to make me smile and swoon a little bit.
The story revolves around New York city girl Charlotte Freemont and handsome country guy Lucas "Luke" Wilder. Their paths crossed one day when Charlotte's car broke down and she was stranded in a small town in Texas, the place where Luke lives along with his twin-brother and his sister. They didn't have a pleasant first meeting though as they spent most of their time bickering. Charlotte finds Luke arrogant while Luke thinks she's bratty. Because there wasn't any other mechanic that could fix Charlotte's car, she was forced to stay in this small town for days. That's when the time when she spent more time with Luke and got to know him better.
If you are a fan of light NA romance that is not high on angst and with no unnecessary drama, then this would be a good bet for you. The characters have this undeniable chemistry that is noticeable from start to finish and their dialogues are fun to read. Plus, I cannot ignore the fact that Luke is one admirable lead. He's not a stereotypical hero that we usually read about-- manwhore, conceited, possessive... and so on. He's just Luke. Simple, kind, and admirable man. I didn't initially warm up to Charlotte, though. In the first few chapters, she was portrayed as a snob and spoiled brat heroine but I was glad that her character developed in the later parts of the book.

“Life is one-way, and there is no return trip. What are you waiting for?”
I don't think I would ever be disappointed in a Penelope Douglas book. To say she's an amazing writer is an understatement because so far, all her books tick the right boxes for me.
Corrupt was another book that stunned me. It was a bit dark and twisted and I must say, a badass version of Bully. The story centers around the characters Erika "Rika" Fane and Michael Crist. Both who came from rich families, these two grew up together but they seem to be totally apart because Rika is already destined to become the future wife of Michael's brother, Trevor. Rika has always been secretly in love with Michael but because Michael stays away from him, she just keeps herself from afar, hoping that he would spare a glance at her. Soon she finds herself getting involved with The Horsemen, a group where Michael is part of. One incident leads to another which results to The Horsemen plotting revenge on her after several years.
The story was told in alternate POVs and alternate past and present timelines. At first, I was a bit lost because the plot seemed hazy and I really didn't know what Michael and The Horsemen were up to. The first half also moved a bit slow. When I've reached 60% though, the story started to pick up its pace and became more interesting.
I especially loved Rika and Michael's push and pull relationship and the way Michael kept resisting Rika despite the fact that deep down inside, he also felt the same way for her. I found their slowly-developed love story odd yet enticing and I believed that the strange connection they've shared since their childhood was the one that kept me glued to the pages throughout.
“She thought she was nothing to me, insignificant and invisible. She wanted me to open my eyes and see her again so fucking badly, but she didn't realize that I already did.”
Penelope's flawless writing here was just another proof that she could do just about everything. The story was incorporated with lyrical lines that added a sense of drama and a little bit of heartbreak to the romance. Plus, you can't say no to the sensual scenes that bring out some feels.
It was definitely a too-good-to-refuse kind of book. If you are in for some dark love story, you don't want to miss being "corrupted". lol

Not bad for an office romance novella. This was quite a fun, hilarious read. The entertainment factor was there. However, it didn't offer anything new. Just the same old hot af womanizer boss who lusted over his attractive employee... etc. etc.
Michael Leighton is Leighton Publishing's playboy CEO. He is one of tabloids' most favorite subjects because of his appetite with different women each week. Despite his success in the corporate world, he seemed to encounter a lot of problems when it comes to his previous executive assistants. This led him to post a job hiring for interested applicants, offering a much higher compensation. When Mya London applied for it and was immediately employed, she didn't expect to develop a love-hate relationship with Michael because he is simply such an arrogant and domineering boss and they always go against each other.
There was overwhelming chemistry in this novella. Both characters were hot and sexy. And there were certainly steamy office scenes that could make everyone blush. This was sure to be a guilty-pleasure read and if you are a type of person who doesn't mind a story with a stereotypical storyline -- just pure entertainment laid on to take away your stress, then go go go read this quick-read story. :)

"Because I should have been with you, Ronnie. It's always been you."
Heat Wave is my second Karina Halle read. Although I loved some of its parts, it fell short of my expectations. It didn't wow me as much as Smut did.
Veronica "Ronnie" Locke became attracted to Logan Shephard when they met at a fundraising event which was hosted by her mom. With their instant connection, they're supposed to start going out and fall in love. It didn't happen, though. Because Logan's attention shifted to her sister Juliet right when he saw her for the first time. Eventually, Logan and Juliet dated and got married. Now seven years later, Juliet's already dead and Ronnie and Logan reunited in Hawaii-- the place where Logan's hotel is located and where Ronnie is going to work as the hotel's chef.
I loved that there was an angst. Angst is good. However, the forbidden love story didn't quite amaze me because the characters lacked some depth. I wasn't also convinced when it comes to Logan's feelings to Ronnie. How come he married Juliet but deep down inside he's in love with Ronnie? His reason was too shallow and I didn't buy it.
The pacing of the book was also a let-down for me. It was too slow and too many scenes that are unnecessary should've never been included.
It's good that the book promised a mild entertainment in the first few chapters but it kinda lost its momentum in the second half with Ronnie and Logan's romantic development moving a little too fast.
The thing that somehow made this book redeemable was the writing of Karina Halle which was hands down beautiful and poetic. I loved how it was written with an air of melancholy. The setting was also beyond captivating. For me, this book is a really great summer read. You can read this when you're staying on a tropical island, sipping a mojito or something. This was a good angsty romance book as a whole, but it wasn't as spectacular as I expected. I believe there are a lot of Karina Halle's books that are better than this. For now, Smut remains my favorite.

Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman, both executive assistants to the co-owners of Bexley & Gamin, have always been at a clash with each other. They share an office room together but they don't get along well. When their respective bosses announced that one of them will be promoted as the other boss, their competitive drive became stronger and of course, they hated each other more. If Lucy loses the job position to Joshua, she has to resign. Is she gets it, then she'll rule over Joshua. But everything turned to chaos when their daily banters slowly converted into strange attraction and irresistible sexual tension.
Despite the usual tropes -- office romance and enemies to lovers, the author was able to bring life to the story through her fun and quirky characters. Lucy's narration was all kind of hilarious. I found myself unable to stop laughing with the way she described her working relationship with Joshua and the rest of the employees of Bexley & Gamin. I also loved how the author painted Joshua's character in a hot and adorable executive kind of way.
The daily bickering was the one that truly stood out here. It was so entertaining to see them exchange witty dialogues that just make their chemistry more apparent. The only complaint I had in this book was the inconsistency of the plotline. I admit I was a bit unsatisfied with their hating game. I thought the romantic development (enemies to lovers) progressed real quick. I kind of wished their hate relationship was longer and that it lasted at least until the middle part of the book. It would be fun to see more of them acting like a cat and a dog in a box. lol.
As a whole, this book was a nice, sweet, and enjoyable story. Nothing extravagant when it comes to angst and conflicts but just an entertaining romantic comedy book that I'm sure everyone will enjoy. For fans of contemporary books and rom-coms, give this book a chance!

The story is all about childhood pen pals Misha Lare and Ryen Trevarrow. They've been writing letters for each other since grade school and for about seven years, they've never seen each others' faces. They promised not to search each other's name on social media to keep their identity a mystery and to keep their meaningful friendship as it is. But one unexpected night at his band's party, Misha wasn't able to resist the temptation of looking at Ryen's Facebook account after he accidentally saw her picture online. That's when he knew that Ryen was actually there at the party's venue.
I'd be honest. This book was HOT. Like RATED PG HOT. And I'm warning you, Ryen and Misha's smoking chemistry and their steamy scenes will possibly burn your e-reader. lol. And since it's written by THE PENELOPE DOUGLAS, it'll be impossible to stop reading.
Steamy scenes aside, this book resonated a powerful message. I loved how it tackled a very important issue which is bullying that happens in every school. The anti-bullying theme here was quite different compared to Douglas's previous book Bully because in this book, the storyline was centered around the issue and most of the events happened at school. It presented a look at what kids go through every day. It was honest and terrifying and it served as an eye-opening view of what these kids' lives are like.
One of the things that I also loved about this book was Ryen's character which came as a huge surprise for me. She was not easy to like especially in the first few chapters, but I totally understood her. She's a famous student at her school. A beautiful and sexy cheerleader. But underneath it all, she's insecure. She's worried about losing her place and losing her friends. She's afraid to be alone. Afraid to be bullied. And that's what made me appreciate her character. For me, she was real.
Same goes for Misha. I loved that both of these characters shared the same passion for words, the same desire for attention and love. Not to mention the same rebellious trait which was quite entertaining. And as I've mentioned, these characters were redeemable ones.
"We're rebels with a reason."
And you know what especially blew me away? The PLOT TWIST. Yes, that twist was a shocker and totally unpredictable!
It will surely take me a lot of time to get over this book. It was simply amazing. A new favorite of mine. :)

“If I have to wait sixty years, not a minute will have been wasted-- because I'll have spent all of them loving you.”
It started out soo good, and then suddenly went downhill. Sad.
However, it was still a good book to devour. For a historical romance fan like me, this kind of story is a special treat as it ushered me to my teenage reading memories. This genre is my first love and it was my gateway to reading more books, so I was still thankful that I've read Cold-Hearted Rake.
We are told the story of Lady Kathleen Trenear and Lord Devon Ravenel. Kathleen has just lost her spouse Theo who happened to be the cousin of Devon when the two of them met in Eversby Priory, the land and property Devon inherited after Theo died. Both of these characters faced a hard time against each other at first. Kathleen could not stand Devon and vice versa. But as the days passed it became quite apparent that they have a sexual tension and chemistry going on.
“Dev, you are sweet. All little boys are. But then you all grow up to be so selfish and cruel. You were born to break women's hearts.”
It's pretty apparent that Devon's character lived up to the book's title. At first he was a cold-hearted rake but he eventually warmed up when he became attracted to Kathleen-- something that made me feel elated at least. He wasn't quite selfish and cruel, after all.
What felt like a little disappointment for me was Kathleen's attitude. She was 90% annoying. I don't like how she assumes that she is always right and that she always has the final say. It's kind of unnerving!
The story also fell a little short for Devin and Kathleen because it kind of centered on the secondary characters such as Rhys Winterborne and Helen Ravenel. I honestly don't mind the introductory tease Lisa Kleypas laid for them in preparation for the next book, but it kind of overpowered Devin and Kathleen's story who should be the highlight of this book.
Although Cold-Hearted Rake didn't work out for me, as a whole it was still a good historical romance read. I have always loved Lisa Kleypas's books. Her writing style is absolutely the best and her characters are a joy to read about. I have a feeling the second book is a lot better though as I totally swooned over Rhys and Helen!
“I know many scientific facts about the human heart-- not the least of which is that it's far easier to make a heart stop beating entirely than to keep it from loving the wrong person.”

In comparison to Fifty Shades of Grey, this one is more about the adult hot scenes that happen between a boss and an employee inside the office. JeeZ! But sexiness aside, this book also narrates a love story between the Beautiful Bastard boss Bennett Ryan and his brilliant and stunning intern Chloe Mills. I love this book but I was looking for more romance between the characters. I mean, not just the sex. I want more of them on the emotional, romantic side. I also think their story is too simple and there was no real conflict to make it a bit interesting. Nevertheless, it's a feel-good book and it's well-written. It's something you'd like to read for a change. :)
