I’m going to be honest here. These are three of my all time favorite paranormal authors, and in general as well. So when I saw this anthology was coming out featuring all three of them, I was beyond excited. I got even more excited when I saw that Gena Showalter was finally… FINALLY giving us Dallas’ story. If you have read the Alien Huntress series and subsequently the Otherworld Assassin spin off series you’ll know that we’ve been waiting for his HEA for quite some time. When I say years I’m not even joking. Excited and a little scared I went into this book with very high expectations and I’m pleased to say that it’s satisfied everything on my list. These three paranormal queens rocked it! So let’s jump in with each story.
THE WARLORD WANTS FOREVER by Kresley Cole
Immortals After Dark # 1
What is this you say? This is not a new story! Well, my initial feeling as well. Both Larissa and Gena gave us new stories in this anthology and the IAD offering is an UPDATED version of where the series started. I will say this. I have terrible memory and I read this story originally many moons ago. I couldn’t tell you if and what the original/edited content is on this story, so to be fair I’ll leave it at that. If you have better memory than me, please enlighten me in the comments! ...more

This anthology contains two standalone (as far as I can tell) sci fi romance stories. I’ve always enjoyed the sci fi work by both of these authors and, as you probably already know, they are two of my all time favorites! Both of these stories packed a lot of emotion in such a short amount of time, it never ceases to amaze me how they can do it! And on top of that, they were hot off the charts!
Land’s End by Lauren Dane – 5 Stars
This story sucked me in from the very beginning. I loved every bit of it! It’s sort of a story of forbidden love mixed in with a second chance at being happy. Verity is a strong woman. Her family gave her to a much older man when she was just a teenager only to be abused by him. When he died a few years later, she inherited his business which is sort of a commissary that sells goods and delivers anything the government enforcers bring to their town. Of course, there’s been a hunky enforcer she’s had her eyes set on for years, but they’ve never made moves on their feelings until now. Now that danger in their world is at an all time high. The concept of this world was so cool! It wasn’t so much sci fi and more dystopian in a way. The Land’s End Highway has many areas along the way. The only ones usually traveling the open road are military and more recently rebels. And the rebels have become a huge factor that Loyal (our hero’s name, love it!) has to take care of. I loved Verity and Loyal, they were perfect together. She was smart and kick ass at the same time as she was innocent in the ways of the world and the flesh. I would love to read more about either them or this world. It was perfection! Please Ms. Dane give us more of Land’s End!
By the Sea of Sand by Megan Hart – 3.5 Stars
I’ve read Megan Hart’s sci fi stories before and this is probably one of my favorite stories in that genre for her. However, I didn’t like certain concepts. This is the story of a woman who has a job as a Lighthouse keeper, she also uses the lighthouse as a place for war veterans to recover their memories and their health after battle. One of her newest patients is her husband. He left to fulfill his duty and has come back, after being taken by the enemy, with no recollection of who he is. He is immediately drawn to her, even when he knows she’s a married woman and would probably most likely be cheating on her husband with him. But that doesn’t stop him or her. It took me a while to warm up to the characters and the premise but after a little over half way into the story I enjoyed it. I think though, after reading this story, I’m not sure there’s more room for more stories in this world.

Wicked All Night – 4.5 Stars
It’s been a while since I’ve picked up a Shayla Black book and read it from the first word ’til the last page without stopping but WICKED ALL NIGHT was engaging and entertaining and didn’t let my interest stray.
Decker is the type of Dom I like. He doesn’t take himself soooo seriously in everyday life. He can still joke around and flirt, even with his horrible pick up lines. He’s endearing and you can’t help but like him immediately. Then he’s also mysterious and tough and every inch the bad boy that I like to swoon for. Perfect combination.
He truly makes Rachel feel like a million bucks, when she otherwise doesn’t have that high opinion of herself. She thinks she’s plain and nothing about her should be appealing to a guy like him. She also has a contract on her head. Yeah someone wants her dead and Decker is making it his purpose to protect her until he figures out what’s going on.
WICKED ALL NIGHT is sexy and funny and it made me remember what I loved about Shayla Black’s writing!
“Tonight that’s my pussy. I’m going to look at it, touch it, taste it…violate it in every way I can think of.” Make Me Yours – 3 Stars
Scott was working deep undercover and had fallen hard for the “boss’s” daughter. The bad boss that is. He couldn’t let himself get involved then but she’s been lingering in his thoughts ever since he left that situation. Now she lands on his front steps looking for protection. She witnessed her father’s murder and someone is after her now. Scott is the only one that she can trust to keep her safe.
Intrigue and chemistry. MAKE ME YOURS is the second story in the Dangerous Tides series by Rhyannon Byrd and as the first book, is high on the sex appeal. I think at times the “smexy times” might’ve overpowered the common sense of the story and I didn’t find it as believable.
I had some of the same issues that I did with the first book. Some of their encounters were the last thing that would’ve crossed my mind at the time (like when she first showed up at his house and he didn’t know it was her yet).
WICKED AND DANGEROUS is an enjoyable read that definitely turns up the heat!

If you are a Kim Harrison fan, you'll love this. If you are a Hollows fan, you'll love this. If you are a true Hollows fan, you've probably read a lot of these stories previously. But don't despair there is a little something extra that will make this all worth it. In my opinion, this might not be the best book if you haven't read the Hollows series, however. I think because the short stories cover a wide span of time and books, you'll be getting some spoilers while reading this.
Another thing that I loved was Kim Harrison's commentary at the beginning of each story. She gives a little background of how that story came to be or why she decided to do certain things with the series or characters. I truly enjoyed that.
The Bespelled - 4 Stars
We are going back in time to when Al first captured Ceri. Al was not a nice guy and this was the story to prove it for a while. He had no heart then and you can really see how much he's changed and evolved in 1,000 years. Enjoyable read all over again! First published in The Outlaw Demon Wails.
Two Ghosts for Sister Rachel - 4 Stars
I always enjoy reading this story. This was back when I actually liked Pierce. So during the Solstice, and while Rachel is still a teenager, her brother Robbie dares her to summon their dad to ask him if she should join the IS. But Rachel ends up with Pierce instead and all the troubles that causes. First published in Holidays are Hell.
Undead in the Garden of Good and Evil - 4 Stars
And Ivy/Kisten story. Right before Ivy goes to work as Rachel's partner. This story gives us a view of the vampire world and politics that come into play. Kisten is the Scion but at times he leans on Ivy's strength and support to get through. I loved reading Ivy's and Kisten's relationship and remembering. *sigh* First published in Dates from Hell.
Dirty Magic - 3.5 Stars
Mia is a banshee that shows up in Black Magic Sanction. I have to say that I personally don't have a fascination with banshees and this story was ok but I didn't connect in any major way. We are just in Mia's head, Mia who is in love and can't help but suck all the energy and life out of everyone and everything. First published in Hotter than Hell.
The Bridges of Eden Park - 4 Stars
Broke my heart to read this. That's all I'm going to say. First published in For a Few Demons More.
Ley Line Drifter - 3.5 Stars
This is a Jenks/Bis story. They are hired to investigate a mysterious presence in a statue at a park. I love Jenks and almost forgot how much I love Bis! Then there's Matalina, who I just love to read about. This was a fun story but I thought was a bit dragged out. First published in Unbound.
Million Dollar Baby - 4 Stars
Here's your new dose of Hollows. When Trent and Jenks go off on their rescue mission during Pale Demon and then come back with his baby, didn't you wonder what happened? I loved every second of this Trent/Jenks adventure. Plus it's written from Trent's POV and I am quickly becoming addicted to being in his head and understanding how he thinks.
Pet Shop Boys - 4.5 Stars
This is the beginning of the non-Hollows stories. This one should become a full length novel or even a series. A whole new look at vamps from Ms. Harrison.
Temson Estates - 3 Stars
I felt that this story was gearing up to go somewhere and then it stopped right in the middle of getting there. Dryads. Yeah, not exactly my thing.
Spider's Silk - 3.5 Stars
This was interesting, if a bit slow. I would've liked it to be a bit longer and know what happens next. She seems to have a fascination with dryads.
Grace - 3.5 Stars
Grace has special powers that can become dangerous. It was ok but I can't say I loved the ending. Maybe it needed to be developed more and could be a good story.

I bought this book because a. the cover is gorgeous and b. I love Courtney Milan. Overall, I thought the premise of how this anthology was set up was very clever and interesting. See, all the short stories in this anthology revolve around one particular house. Different people and different times, but always around Doyle's Grange. I really liked that. But I can't say the same for all the stories in this anthology and they are better analyzed individually.
One Starlit Night by Carolyn Jewel - 4 stars
Amazing! Just amazing! I have found another author I want to read everything she's ever written. This story was sweet and romantic and hot. The writing was beautiful. I felt like I wanted to keep making status updates on my Goodreads progress because there were so many beautiful quotes. Viscount Northword used to live next door to Doyle's Grange and was very good friends with Portia and her brother all through childhood and adolescence. Then he fell in love with Portia and although we don't know what happened at the beginning or the whys, they do not end up married. He goes on to marry someone else and move away. Years later Portia is now to be married to another man and the Viscount returns. And all their feelings for each other come right back. Their love trascended time and I could feel it from the very first page. They didn't fight it, they didn't abide by propriety of the times. They got kinky in the stables. And they got a second chance at happiness. Loved, loved, loved!
This time they were old enough to know there was nothing new in the world and that they did not invent passion, they created it between them, and it was that which was new and rare.
What Happened at Midnight by Courtney Milan - 4 stars
Courtney Milan did not disappoint either. Being that she was the reason I wanted to read this, her story was good. Even though now it's my second favorite of this anthology. Mary is hiding out after the death of her father and the charges of embezzlement against him. John is looking for her for two reasons. He hasn't stopped loving her, after all they were to be married. But also, he's the one responsible for finding her, and hopefully the money, that was stolen from his nephew. He finds her, maybe by accident, at Doyle's Grange where she had taken a position as a lady's companion. John is a bit rough around the edges when you would expect someone with his money to be a bit more refined but that worked really well for me. He knows he wants Mary but he still respects her, even though he really doesn't deny his attraction even when he thought she was a part of the theft. A bit less hot than the previous read but still a lot of sexual tension and sparks between these two.
A Dance in Moonlight by Sherry Thomas - 3 stars
I didn't get it. I couldn't connect with the character or the story all that much. I didn't have a problem with the writing for the story itself was nothing that got me crazy. Isabelle's husband died and she comes to Doyle's Grange in the hopes that she could finally be with the man she loved before, Fitzhugh. But Fitzhugh is married and doesn't want an affair. Except that one day a man knocks on her door and looks SO MUCH like Fitzhugh she thought he had come back and changed his mind. Except it wasn't him. Fitzwilliam was also staying nearby and had seen the beautiful woman before and was enthralled. He even continues to be attracted after she jumped his bones because he looked like her ex-lover. I guess I really never bought the fact that Isabelle loved Fitzwilliam instead of using him as a substitute for Fizhugh, and I couldn't understand how he could get over that. I haven't read the series that this short story goes along with, but I don't think it relates that much to the Fitzhugh's that you couldn't read this first. But I do have to say that, even though I have Sherry Thomas' series on my TBR and I'll get to those eventually, it's not going to the top of the list....more

You should know that I love Kelley Armstrong and I love this series. I've been actually sad just thinking the last book is coming out in about a month. So when I saw that this was coming out I actually got really excited. And then I looked at what the stories were about and I had one those moments where that bright smile falters a bit. You'll see why in my individual story review.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed this novella. It actually has two very short stories and then quite a big preview of THIRTEEN, which I didn't read because I want to enjoy the book fully when it comes out. But I was a bit disappointed that the preview was really pretty much half of this ebook.
STALKED (Women of the Otherworld # 7.3)
This story was originally published in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon (anthology) which I never read. Basically Clay and Elena had their twins and were basically living as a married couple without being actually married. So when they decide to make it official and then they go on their honeymoon, they thought they wanted what normal couples got in their honeymoon. Except normal is boring for them. And Elena finds herself being stalked by a mutt, but it's Clay who notices right away. I loved the fact that this story was from Clay's POV. I can still say Clay and Elena are my favorite couple in this series and it's always enjoyable to read about them, but Clay's mind is such a treat to be in. Having not read the anthology this was originally published in, I actually enjoyed this story as new to me.
OFF-DUTY ANGEL (Women of the Otherworld # 12.5)
Here's the reason why my smile faltered. Eve *might* be my least favorite character in the series. I've never developed any attachment to her, probably because she is technically out of the picture already when the series pretty much gets going and then comes back. Needless to say I was disappointed that the brand new story we were getting was Eve's. But it was kind of fun. She's been bored out of her mind with mindless research work until her DH gives her an assignment. This takes her on a quest, jumping through different planes, and she actually made this story entertaining to the point that I liked her. A lot of action and the story was very focused on Eve and hardly on Eve/Kristoff.

Let me start out by saying that I have not read less than half of the authors in this anthology before picking this up, so I was very excited to get to sample some new authors! This anthology is more on the mystery side than the romantic suspense, even though there is a romantic undertone to all the stories. Just don't go in expecting a lot of hot and heavy action. I'm giving the anthology in general a rating of 3 stars but there were some stories that stood out, which make this anthology 100% worthwhile. So lets break it down.
Pick Your Poison by Roxanne St. Claire - 3 Stars The story was cute. I see it's part of the Bullet Catchers series, which is a security firm basically. They are hired to serve as bodyguards to a politician but then get fired when they actually do their job on what seems to be a false alarm. Benjamin Youngblood is the agent that had followed a hunch and lost the client so he gets fired. In order to get his job back he wants to prove that he was right and keeps digging into the case. Then he stumbles across Callie Parrish and the pieces start to fall into place, now all he has to do is get the proof. This was pretty good until the ending then it got a little silly. But still very entertaining read.
Nightfall by Laura Griffin - 3 Stars This story was extremely short. When it comes to stories that short is really hard to form an opinion on how good they are, especially when you don't already know the characters from somewhere else. Basically Holly is at the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong vehicle. She is mistaken for a drug trafficking player and crashes her van loaded with flowers that she was supposed to deliver for a wedding. Now she's in the middle of an investigation and she doesn't even know it. I had a few eye-rolling moments with this story, especially when she gets rescued by a perfect stranger and when he leaves her alone at his house, she thinks its ok for her to "borrow" his car to make her flower delivery.
Above Reproach by Allison Brennan - 3.5 Stars Now this story I liked a lot better. There's a lot less romance and it's a grittier story. Not all the fluff and humor. A serial rapist is escalating his game and has now killed his first victim. Selena Black is the detective that has been after this guy for a while and she KNOWS who it is. Except he's a highly respected member of the community. She makes mistakes that can cost them the investigation and her past comes poking its little ugly head as well. But all I could think of after I finished this story was that I wouldn't mind reading more about her and her surgeon boyfriend, Gabriel, because he seems dangerous and dirty, and I would love to know what happens next!
Dead Flowers by Lori Armstrong - 4.5 Stars I am kicking myself in the butt right now for not starting to read the Julie Collins series sooner. I have no clue where this short story falls in the timeline but I can say that Julie is my kind of heroine. Kick ass and headstrong. I mean, she starts off the story by describing how much she hates Valentine's Day, she can drink and she even watches Myth Busters! I gotta know more about this PI! She's struggling with following up on a couple of PI cases where she's dealing with cheaters and drawing comparisons with her own relationship, and thinking her boyfriend is cheating on her. I kept going back and forth between wanting him to be found guilty so she could get it on with her PI partner, or wanting it all to have a sweet ending. And I won't tell you which way it goes. I will be reading the rest of her books hopefully soon because I love Julie!
Blood and Roses by Sylvia Day - 3.5 Stars This was the hottest story of the bunch, and even though it wasn't very long I think the story was developed very well. Anastasia goes back to her hometown following up on a lead for her job as an insurance investigator. See, some major jewels were stolen and she knows her mother was the mastermind behind the heist. Of course being back in town somehow translated into being back in Jake Monroe's bed. He's a cop, she comes from a family of thieves. Even though she mostly tries to do good, sometimes she lets things go. And this is why she thought they could never work as a couple. Jake though has no plans of letting her walk out of his life again.
Rebel Rose by Karin Tabke - 3 Stars I started out this story thinking I would love it. I have read this author before, in this genre, as short stories, and loved them all. This one fell a bit flat though. There's been a murder at a frat house party and Detective Cash Cantrell is called in to investigate. The murder is very similar to a case years ago. He only has the victim's friend to help in the investigation. And he's attracted to her. Not only there's an age difference, but he's black and she's white. As much as he wants to fight what's going on between them she is helping with the investigation. The mystery or suspense was ok but the rest fizzled out for me.
A Punishing Night by Sophie Littlefield - 3 Stars Going back to college stories, there's a dead body, male in an all female dorm. Joe Bashir is going back as a detective in the case after having dropped out of this same college a while back. I was scared there would be another cop-college girl romantic interest in this book so I was happy to see it wasn't. While Joe is investigating, his knowledge of school rituals from before comes into play, even though he was originally called in due to his heritage and language skills. Muslim hate crimes rendered Joe's dad pretty much an invalid, affected his own life and now have again shown up in this case. The romance in this story doesn't even come into play until the end of the story but it was a nice addition.
The Housewife Assassin's Bloody Valentine by Josie Brown - No Rating I couldn't get into this story and stopped about halfway through.
King of Hearts by Lorelei James - 4 Stars This is a Rough Riders short story. A bad day in the life of Cam McKay as a cop. He's called in to the scene of a murder/suicide on Valentine's Day. He went to school with the husband. They seemed like such a happy couple just days before. Cam has to deal with the parents, the investigation, and the fact that the reason why this all might've happened is because the husband never recovered mentally after coming back from war. A lot of the issues hit home for Cam. But at the end of the day when he gets to go home, the love of his family pulls him through.
Bobbie Faye's Whacked-Out, No-Good, Really Sucky, Hot Mess of a Wedding by Toni McGee Causey - 3 Stars I can just let that title speak for itself! LOL This story was funny and a bit whacky but it was enjoyable if you like your heroines a bit eccentric, who can't go anywhere without a gun, even their own wedding, and who almost everyone is scared of.

Like a Wolf with a Bone by Shelly Laurenston - 4.5 Stars
It's no secret that Shelly Laurenston has been my go to author for fun and sexy for the past 3 years, since I discovered her books. Her Pride series is one of my favorite shifter series still to date and I was so very excited to get a short story! Well, I admit it's been a while since I read the books so I couldn't quite remember who Eggie was. Then as soon as I started reading I thought it was great that she gave him a book. Eggie is the crazy uncle that is really good at killing things. He is also Dee-Ann Smith's father (from Big Bad Beast). We go back in time in the Pride series and this story reads as a prequel to the whole series. The Smith clan has always been crazy and Eggie maybe a little scary, but seeing him falling in love with Darla Mae was just adorable. He's tough and probably the most feared wolf around. She's smart and quiet and you would think a delicate flower. When her life is in danger, he takes it upon himself to protect her. Of course keeping her safe means keeping her close to him. And yes, the get close and hot and heavy. But what I loved the most about this story was the fact that knowing how Eggie is (from the future) it was so nice to see that sweet and cuddly side of him, how he melted for his woman and gave in to her every whim even though he's such a big tough guy. And lets not forget funny. This short story was laugh-out-loud hilarious while being very sweet and sexy. Here are some of my favorite quotes:
"What's so funny...wait. That was a laugh, wasn't it? I'm still trying to learn your different grunts."
"Just don't get in my way, and I won't have to kill any of ya. I hate upsettin' Momma and all."
"Stop glaring at everyone Eggie Ray."
"I'm not. I'm only glaring at the men staring at your legs."
"I'm not going to let you ruin our beautiful day by killing three men and burying them in the woods. I won't allow it."
"I hate Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's my Alabama cousins who like 'em."
Wed or Dead by Cynthia Eden - 4 Stars
I'm not sure if this was supposed to be part of a series as Cynthia writes a few sexy wolves but I thought this story stands alone perfectly. Even though this story still has some funny moments, there was a lot more action and suspense than in the first one. Kayla is part of a group of hunters (humans) and her job was to pretend to be in love with and marry Gage, the wolf alpha. Little does she know that Gage knew all along what she was but wanted to be with her anyway because she's his mate. Kayla also has issues in her past as it was a wolf who killed her parents and why she now joined the hunters. But everything she thought she knew is about to change and the truth has to come out. Gage was hot and sexy, as you can expect with an alpha wolf shifter. Posessive and intense. He wanted Kayla and he never backed down from his plan to have her, one way or another. I really enjoyed seeing things through Kayla's eyes and slowly realizing how she had been lied to and that her feelings for Gage were too strong to be denied. Capture, betrayals and pack conflict, this story had a bit of everything and it was a great suspenseful read. If this is part of a series, then believe me I'll be reading it. I would like to know more about Kayla's brother to start with.

"My House, My Rules" *** 3 Stars Kicking off this book about the sexy Watson brothers is the oldest, Sam. He's had a crush on Ariel for a long time but has always told himself he's too old for her. His youngest brother Pete thought he was in love with her a few years back. So Ariel has always been off limits. Now in the middle of an investigation, because hot sexy Sam is a cop, she has decided she wants him and is going after him. Other than some pretty sucky timing on her part, I just wanted to slap her around most of the time. Ariel is young, and immature, and innocent. And I don't really think she knows what she wants. She decides she wants to give her virginity to Sam but then is about to walk out the door when he asks her to strip? Good thing Sam was hot enough to make up for my lack of like of the heroine.
"Bringing Up Baby" *** 3.5 Stars Such a crazy situation to be in. Gil Watson is the middle brother, the centered and stable brother. The one running the family business. The one who has his career in the right direction, has the nice big house, and everything where he wants. Except for when he finds out that he has a daughter. He has one night of passion with a work-related acquaintance in another state and apparently she got pregnant and didn't say anything. Now that she's dead he is faced with having to raise his daughter. But she comes with an extra person. Anabel was actually the one who raised the girl until now since the mom didn't really want to deal with her. And she's grown attached to the baby and will do ANYTHING to not be separated from her. Anabel is not the usual type of woman Gil has envisioned himself with. But he's wanted her ever since he met her years ago. These two actually had really good chemistry and they worked well as a couple for me. Even though her proposition was CRAZY they made it work!
"Good With His Hands" *** 4 Stars This was the story I originally read that introduced me to the Watson brothers. It was cute, funny, sexy and hot. There's the girl next door, Cassidy, who's a bit of a tomboy, doesn't worry too much about how she dresses or what her hair looks like. She works with, and now lives next door to, hunky and to-die-for hot Pete Watson. They've been best friends for over a year, they have a great routine together, almost as if they're married, but it's not sexual between them. Until Pete decides that he wants it to be sexual. And of course, Cassidy had been drooling over him the whole time and torturing herself by being so close and not having him so she's all for the idea of them together. Pete was just too cute. The guy just had no clue sometimes about things and it was adorable to see him wonder how his charms might not be working on Cassidy. She's the girl with the plan of where her life is going and what kind of guy she wants to marry. And that guy is so not him. But maybe he can make the effort and be what he feels her ideal is. Or make her realize that she wants him instead as he is. Because he realizes he's been falling for her this whole time. ...more

Good With His Hands - 4 Stars How come I didn't know about this series by Lori Foster? Well, I really enjoyed this story, which is # 3 in the Watson Brothers, and believe me I'll go back and read the rest. It was cute, funny, sexy and hot. There's the girl next door, Cassidy, who's a bit of a tomboy, doesn't worry too much about how she dresses or what her hair looks like. She works with, and now lives next door to, hunky and to-die-for hot Pete Watson. Miss Extreme Congeniality - 3.5 Stars I'll tell you what with this Erin McCarthy story. It was hot! The sexual tension was there constantly BUT I was not sold on the heroine of the novel, nor was I sold on how quickly they "fell for each other". Let me explain. CJ and White are undercover cops on a case. They've been working this case for a while and she just hates his guts, she thinks he's a playboy chasing after skirts and has no respect for him as a person. But she wants him. Wyatt on the other hand seems to not have noticed her much, she gives off a very don't-mess-with-me vibe and he's kept his distance. So they haven't had a chance to even get to know each other in the slightest. Then one night while on assignment working at a party they decide to have sex. As a deal. She will go to Wyatts' house for an all-night sex-fest and then after that he will transfer to another city when they're done with the case. But it turns out that the wild night of passion turns into I love yous. But still a very hot story and an enjoyable read.
Last Call by Morgan Leigh - 3 Stars Tess is a singer at a local bar in Justice, North Carolina. She's recently moved to the town (and I'm not telling you why). One night she catches the eye of a really good looking, if a bit rough and greasy at the moment, bad boy. Fletcher felt that connection, lust and need, at first sight. Recently divorced from his gold digging wife, he's still a bit careful with women but he can't not go after Tess that night. But he's keeping a secret from her. Tess and Fletcher definitely have sexual chemistry, but here's another I-love-you-the-morning-after-I-met-you situation. I think I would've been happier to see them have a happy for now ending to this story. Personal choice....more

I cannot tell you how much I've been dying to dive into this series! The premise of it is so interesting. First of all it has two of my most favorite things, werewolves and bad boy bikers. This combination is bound to make this a kick-ass series.
I liked the fact we got this prequel because it takes care of explaning the world of the Weres and the Dire Wolves. The Dires are a group of to-die-for bad boys. They stumble upon a human's death that is being called a werewolf attack. Now it's their job to protect the secrecy of the supernatural community and prove this claim wrong.
To do that they will have to infiltrate a Paranormal Investigation group, team up with a girl who can talk to ghosts and chase down some rogues.
I loved the fact that the Dires also have some extra abilities. I know the first book in this series is about the Dires Alpha, Rifter, but even though we got to see some of him in this story we also got to focus on other members of the team.

I've been checking out this series for a while so when I saw this Christmas read for only $0.79 on Kindle I had to jump on it. I've never read this author either so it was the perfect sampler. Now I can't wait to read more.
This historical has some spunk. Violet is no wilting flower. She was in love with her neighbor, Christian, her whole life. Then one night he finally notices her and takes her virginity, only to leave town the next day. From then on, he's been referred to in her mind as The Disappointment.
She's been away from home at Spindle Cove ever since and now that is time to go back home and find a husband she receives a most unexpected guest. A bit unrecognizable, but still her Christian. She's not sure if he's a spy or just working undercover during the war but he's risked everything to come see her and ask her to give him a chance and wait for him.
I thought this was a perfect Christmas time romance, it has some intrigue and some action and the H/h are very likeable. A fast and deliciously enjoyable read!...more

My least favorite of the anthology but still sweet and entertaining. Carrie and Austin are high school sweethearts. They grew up in West Virginia in a small town so when Carrie wanted to pursue her dreams of working at a prestigious museum and move to the big city. Austin didn't want to relocate thinking her place was there with him. So they broke up. And Carrie loves him too much to go back home for Christmas, see him, and fall back into bed with him so she decides to stay in the city for the Holidays. But Austin thinks its time she sees where she belongs and opens up a Christmas tree lot outside of her apartment building in the hopes to win her back and bring her back home with him. I didn't like Austin's attitude toward Carrie's work, which was her problem with him. I thought he was a bit of a self-centered ass and it was all about him at the end of the day. This Time Next Year by Alison Kent - 3.5 Stars Breena is heading to her grandmas' house to spend what will most likely be her last Christmas with her. After this she's going to Malawi for a trip as a peace corp nurse basically and she probably won't come back next year for Christmas and her grandma might not last much longer. But Mother Nature has different plans for her and on her way there she gets hit with a snowstorm and slides off the road, crashes her car and gets almost snowed in. In comes Dillon to the rescue. He's the "mountain doctor" (as well as the mountain's most eligible bachelor) and he knows Breena's grandma is expecting her so he was on the look out and rescues her from freezing to death. He's got skeletons in his closet but with Breena he manages to open up and wish for things that he never thought he could have. But is she the woman to put those ghosts to rest?

I had gotten this as a Kindle freebie a long time ago. Of course I didn't know that this was the prequel of the Renegade Angels series. I read an ARC of book one last year and I when I started reading my ARC of book two I realized that this was the prequel and had been sitting on my Kindle app patiently waiting to be read.
So I started it almost at the same time as I started reading A HUNGER SO WILD, and I have to say that I enjoyed it immensely because the characters in this short story are also part of that book. I'm not sure if I would've cared as much for them without the background knowledge.
Having said that, this was a great little story. Raze is one of the Fallen but he didn't fall for his love of a woman. He just enjoys sex...with anything female. But a dead body at his doorstep puts a bad ending to a night of enjoyment for him and brings him to investigate in Chicago.
Chicago where he meets Kim and she is everything he thought he would never want. But he can't stay with her when there's so much danger around him. Theirs is not a HEA but a To Be Continued. I can't wait! ...more

She moved away from The Order and went in search of closeness with her mate's family.
It's been enough time and now she finds someone that might be able to spark some interest in her, as it turns out, it's Cons' best friend. I loved the fact that technically Bran had *seen* her first. He was just a bit too slow to make a move and Con got a jump on that. He's always cared for Danika, she was that one that got away and he was happy that Con was a good mate to her.
Now she's back in their land, and in danger. Bran will have to go against what he's worked for for a very long time in order to keep Danika and her son safe.

I kind of wanted to read this series in order, although the stories are not related AT ALL. But due to different release dates and who knows what caused them I'm not. So I made a bit of a jump from book # 3 in this collection of short stories to # 6.
I've never read anything by this author before but I know I have some of her books on my never ending TBR and they come highly recommended so I was anxious to try out her writing style. And I have to say I enjoyed it! There was just enough bantering between the main characters and as always for short stories, I like that the hero and heroine had a previous relationship.
So we have Aylia, a witch that used to date a werewolf, Nico. She believes he betrayed her before which is why they are not together now. Also the fact that her coven is cursed and she needs to wear a necklace or she will die by a certain birthday, and he took the necklace.
If you have, like me, an addiction to sexy alpha males, then I can tell you will like Nico. But he's also very sweet and loving when it comes to Aylia, even though she couldn't possibly be his mate because she's a witch.
This story, although short, was entertaining, had some action and plenty of sexyness! I know there's plans to do a story for Kole, Nico's first in command, so I'm looking forward to reading that!...more

"Where Darkness Lives" by Alexandra Ivy - 5 Stars
I've only read one other novella in the Guardians of Eternity series and I didn't enjoy it as much as this one. This story rocked! And yes, it's my favorite in the whole anthology. It has one hell of a hot alpha male, Luc, who will make you drool all over yourself, especially when he's wearing his speedo by the pool. But not just that, I loved the heroine. Yes, Sophia is the Queen of Bitches, but I think she's a cool cat...or ... err.... wolf. She's had four daughters but thanks to being a werewolf she's still a hot and sexylicious blonde who is very confident and strong. After she realizes someone is trying to kill her she hires a bodyguard. Enter sexy Luc. And while he's doing his job keeping her safe, while keeping the secret of his identity from her, they realize they're mates. My only complaint... I wished it was a full length story!
"Murder on Mysteria Lane" by Angie Fox - 4 Stars
This was my first Angie Fox story. Actually first time I heard of her. In her paranormal world, Heather McPhee, the outcast werewolf who has the ability of getting inside people's mind and making them tell the truth, gets to go undercover into Vampire County, aka Malibu, where all the trophy wives live. Why? Because her alpha's sister was murdered and they have three days to find the killer. She's partnering with a hot vampire, Lucien Mead. From the get-go she's not the type to fit in but I liked seeing her evolve and come out of her shell even though she was completely out of her element. And how cool that she's basically a truth serum? I want her ability! Although it takes a bit of time for things to heat up between Heather and Lucien they do end up steaming up the pages, even though I thought their first time was a bit awkward-timing.
"Werewolves in Chic Clothing" by Tami Dane - 3 Stars
Not so hot about this as a paranormal story. For most of this story there are no paranormal creatures really, maybe just a hint. As a murder mystery type story with a hint of humor it did keep me entertained. I thought the fact the hero's name is Jon Stewart was pretty comical. So the basic idea of the story is a girl moves in with her long distance boyfriend, whom she met online. Turns out she's moved into the replica of Stepford Wives, oh and by the way, her fiance is the suspect or murdering his ex wife. Oh and can I just complain about the "fade to black" sexy moments?
"What's Yours is Mine" by Jess Haines - 2.5 Stars
Maybe a bit harsh, huh? But I just really didn't care much for this story. There's a bunch of were women that are recruiting to turn other powerful women into weres. They set their sights on Tiffany, but she's keeping a secret and they need to find out about it before they present her with the contract to become a were. I didn't know all this paperwork was involved into being turned! There's no sex in this story or even really a mention of it....more

Quick read, this prequel is a perfect introduction to the world of the Para-Ops series. The main character of this story, Wraith, is a blue-skin ... well... wraith. She's just awakened, doesn't know what's happened to her, doesn't even remember her name.
Even in such a crazy situation (she awakens naked in a dumpster) she still manages to have a pretty good attitude. I love her sense of humor, personality and pop culture references.
She ends up trusting a vampire, Colt, who is also a bit down on his luck and a few pints short on blood.
We learn just a bit of their world and how things work. But her life is starting off from here.

Wow! I admit to reading this prequel after I had already read the four books that have been published in this series. *Read between the lines = I hope that there are more books to come in this series*
The Heavenly Host is just an idea. A group of horny and worthless men that have made a group with the idea of having all kinds of kinky fuckery and sacrifices and rituals.
One of them is the gorgeous male specimen, Alistair Rohan.
They bring to his home the first sacrificial lamb to their festivities. Yes, I mean a woman. One down on her luck at the moment who thought she was getting a job not being used for sex. They are in Venice, she needs money to return home to England.
But Kathleen Strong is shocked to find Alistair there. Her brother's friend and childhood crush. And now she's been offered to him to have sex with?
I thought this story was very well written. As usual with this series (and if you read this in order, like you should, you wouldn't know) it's a bit dark and gritty and maybe not your typical declaration of love eternal from the first page. And that's one of the things I love about this author.
However, the story was a bit short, even though satisfying, I wanted more!...more

First thing I need to clarify is that I've never read anything by this author and I'm not familiar with the A-Tac series. Now, that being said, I was able to fully enjoy this short story even without having any background.
Lara was part of the A-Tac team, working for the CIA until her husband Jason died tragically. She needed to get away and the only way she found to get away and cope with her grief, or just hide it, was to go hide in Africa, in a settlement where she could do humanitarian medical services. She's been there now a year. She's still a basket case about losing her husband. I felt she wasn't truly ready to get a HEA. At the beginning of the book her emotions were still very raw, she was still broken, and hadn't let go of the memory of Jason.
On the other hand we have the hot Aussie mercenary, Rafe. He's been lusting for Lara, and falling in love with her, since she came to Africa and their little settlement.
Things get complicated when her clinic is attacked by militia and she is kidnapped. Her only hope is Rafe coming for her. And after that is one twist after another! The suspense was actually good and kept the story interesting, instead of having one sex scene after another.
In the end, his feelings felt real, his attraction to her and hopes for the future were justified. But in her case, I thought it was forced and too quick. A simple we are couple and care about each other would've worked much better for me than her going from "I don't want to be a notch in his bedpost and don't really like him" to "I love him" in about 24 hours.
I am intrigued to read about the A-Tac team now, being that technically this story doesn't involve one of their missions or current team members. I enjoyed Ms. Davis's writing style!...more

The Gift by Lynsay Sands 3.5 Stars
Following in the Argeneau Vampires series we now get the story of Katricia Argeneau, and forgive me if I was supposed to know who she is, I'm behind on my Argeneau reading; and Teddy Brunswick. Who is Teddy? I thought this was cute. He is the sheriff of Port Henry, he is an older gentleman, close to retiring age. He's never married, and now decides to go on a vacation for the Holidays instead of going to friends houses. Of course he gets help from Marguerite Argeneau, Matchmaker by Excellence.
She just happens to arrange for Katricia to be spending the Holidays in the house next to Teddy. See Marguerite has a good eye for finding people's life mates and as it turns out Katricia can't read Teddy's thoughts.
They end up stuck due to a snow storm and power outage, and even though Teddy knows about vampires he is not the most comfortable around Katricia. He shouldn't be noticing how enticing she looks in those leotards, or is it leggings she calls them?
This was a pretty sweet story but it wasn't anything crazy special. Not a lot of the crazy humor. ut I actually enjoyed it more than the last full length book I've read in the series.
Home For The Holidays by Jeaniene Frost 4 Stars - Must Read For Night Huntress Followers
OMG This is a MUST READ for Night Huntress fans! In my opinion this story could've been made into a full length book! There was so much potential and I think some things were over-simplified because it was a novella.
However, don't let that fool you. This story rocked! I don't want to give too much away, but basically here's what you can expect: Someone from Bones' past comes back, and brings back with him a curse that Bones's was not even aware of. The whole gang (almost) is under this spell and everyone is basically possessed and it's up to Ian and Cat to save the day.
Yes, Ian plays a pretty big role in this story. I love him! And we even get to see Ian make out with.... I won't tell you who!!!
This story might make you want to kick Bones in the balls, pull Mencheres hair out, kiss Ian to death and comfort Cat....more

Short and sweet. You HAVE to read this short story before moving on to book 2, even though is kind of unrelated, as it is the story of Finn and Brenna, Lily is Brenna's friend and this book gives you an idea of Lily's mental state prior to Embraced by Blood.
Now that being said... Brenna is a vampire. She has just received a scholarship to further her studies, only to realize that "someone" in her benefactors camp had kidnapped a very special person to her. Having already read book 1 in the series, I really enjoyed Foreplay. If you haven't, then it's definetely the best place to start as it gives you a bit of background information on how Jackie managed to get herself turned into a succubus while being down on her luck.

The Darkest Fire - LOTU # 0.5 3 Stars
Bringing you back to where it all started in a way. However the Demon Lords as we now know them are really not in this story. This is the story of Geryon, Guardian of the Gates of Hell, and Kadence, Goddess of Oppression.
He is not beautiful, how could a true beauty like Kadence want to even look at him. He feels like this from page one. Always beneath everyone, considered as low as a dog. With his almost demon-like appearance he can only watch the Goddess from afar, and dream.
Kadence has also her own cross to bear. She is tied directly to the Wall that keeps the demons inside. She cannot go far from it or the wall weakens. But what of her own weakness? How could she resist the tender soul in Geryon?
The Beauty falls in love with the Beast. This story is short, quite steamy, but will give you no more information on the LOTU storyline.
The Darkest Prison - LOTU # 3.5 4 Stars
This was a very entertaining story in the LOTU world. Even though we get a glimpse of Reyes and Danika at the beginning, it is only to give us an insight into what is happening in Cronus's side.
Atlas was held captive many years ago, and had tried to seduce all female guards to get someone to release him. Except even then, one of them had been special to him. It wasn't the prettiest girl of the bunch, no, it was Nike, with all her strength, and the way she made him feel. Except before she went against her people and released him, she found out about his other relations with other guards, and thought she was just a means to an end to him. Of course she should've known better. Why would a beautiful man like him want a woman like her. And to punish him, she carved her name on his back.
Now, years later, the positions are reversed, Nike is the slave in the cell, and Atlas wants revenged, he wants to see his name on her skin, but he didn't expect to feel possessive of her, he didn't expect that he would want no other man near her, touching her. She was his. But what future could they have together?
Sienna and Cronus make a small appearance as well, and the Lords are briefly mentioned, but other than that, this novel has nothing to do with the Lords and their continuing storyline. However it was a very entertaining short read.
The Darkest Angel - LOTU # 4.5 5 Stars
This was the only story in this book that is directly related to the Lords and/or characters from the LOTU books.
The harpies are my favorite females in this series, well with the exception of Anya, of course. The Darkest Angel is the story of how Bianka and Lysander got together. We've known from the books they are a couple, but how did a harpy manage to get with an Angel?
I think these two could've gotten their own book, they were certainly amazing together and I would've loved to see their relationship more developed. But what we got was full of humor, tensions, battles of will and naughtiness.
Lysander wants to convert Bianka from her evil and impure ways. So he decides he will kidnap her and bring her to his home, in a cloud, keep her there, and teach her how to be good. Not counting on the fact that he wants her too much, and he can't help it if she affects him in ways he doesn't even understand. What are these feelings? How can he deal with them? Well, maybe he shouldn't. And he leaves her alone in his house for long periods at a time.
This just makes Bianka furious. Doesn't he know that a harpy can't even eat or drink unless she steals! There's nothing for her to steal, how is she going to survive? And why is her traitorous body warming at the mere sight of the Angel.
Funny, yes. Cute and romantic, yes. HOT, absolutely. And ... totally memorable. Let's just say if you've ever though about Paris half naked in a mud fight with another hot half naked guy, then you have to read this story!
