Cherise Sinclair is often known for her amazing erotic romances and BDSM sex scenes. However, I’ve really come to love her talent for writing emotional love stories and HEALING OF THE WOLF is a perfect example of this.
I completely fell in love with this book. The beginning chapters hooks you right in, making you feel for these characters in a huge way. It’s been a long time since I’ve raved about a book, but this one totally tugged at my heartstrings and made me fall in love. I loved the way Sinclair used emotions in this story. There was a mixture of fear, worry, lust, desire, love, and many more. The range of emotions is incredible and I think she handled the romance perfectly.
Since this is a shifter book, I also think she did a great job of adding the paranormal bits well. There’s a big sense of duty and community in this book and I really liked that aspect because it just adds another dimension and secondary plot to the book.
Sinclair’s writing seems to be getting better and better, so I’m looking forward to seeing what she has planned next for her readers. In the past, I’ve always preferred her BDSM books, but this series is quickly rising. Who knows, maybe one day the shifters will surpass the Doms. I can’t wait to see what Sinclair will do next!...more
J.D. Robb’s In Death series is one of those series that I love to read no matter what the season is. I’m always in the mood to read about Eve and Roarke and in this latest installment to the series, we see how a lover’s quarrel can result in a disastrous event.
The main couple of the book, Eve and Roarke, have always been my favorites. But in this particular one, there seems to be less of a focus on Roarke and his relationship with Eve. Instead, Robb spends more time on the mystery as well as some other the secondary cast whom I also adore. Having these developments with their characters truly makes this book feel more full. I think it also gives readers something enjoyable to read even as the gruesome details of the mystery and murders are played out. It creates a wonderful balance that makes this book a lot easier to read.
I would have loved to see more of Roarke in this book, but then again, I always wish for more Roarke. All in all, FAITHLESS IN DEATH is another solid installment in the series, fusing together love and death in a seamless way. Only J.D. Robb can write a story that’s as detailed and thrilling as this book is....more
J.D. Robb can literally do no wrong! In the latest installment in the In Death series, Ever and Roarke are once again presented with a nasty murder in Washington Square Park, they are forced to work together to catch a killer. What’s interesting about this case is that Roarke seems to have caught a glimpse of the killer and he’s a man that he doesn’t want to mess with.
Tasked with finding out of these two are linked somehow, Eve will have her hands full. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Not only did it delight me to see Eve and Roarke together, but having this strange shadow in the background added another sense of mystery to the plot. I can honestly say that this book blew me away. I have no idea how Robb is able to come up with unique stories with so many books already in the series, but I always look forward to a new In Death book and can’t recommend it enough to others. SHADOWS IN DEATH definitely proves how talented a writer J.D. Robb is....more

AloRAGE & RUIN is book two in the Harbinger trilogy by Jennifer L. Armentrout and she continues her exciting story about a half human and half angel. Along with her gargoyle protector, Trinity and Zane seem to be against the odds as the Harbinger approaches.
Trinity acts much like Armentrout’s other heroines. She’s feisty, sarcastic, and kickass. I think readers will have an easy time liking her character. She’s one of those heroines that you can’t help but root for.
In this book, there’s a bit more details of Zane thrown in, which I think is so important for his character. The relationship between Trinity and Zane is really about being partners, so although Trinity is used to doing things on her own and in her own way, they have to figure out a way to work together.
This book was easy-to-read and reminds me a bit of The Dark Artifices series by Cassandra Clare, so if you enjoyed that series, then you may enjoy this one as well. I think Armentrout has definitely found a formula that fits her writing style when it comes to writing paranormal romances and I can’t wait to read more! ...more

SECRET AT SKULL HOUSE is book two in the Secrets and Scrabble series by Josh Lanyon. I have been looking forward to this series because I’ve really enjoyed the Adrien English series in the past. Although this one doesn’t quite have the same vibe as my favorite series, it does have a lot of interesting characters.
In this particular story, Ellery’s ex, Brandon, is one of the main characters. I always get a little excited whenever an ex is involved in the storyline, especially when Josh Lanyon does it. You just know that there’s going to be something juicy going on. Needless to say, I really liked this storyline.
However, I did feel like the beginning of the story dragged a bit. It took a while to get me into the story, which is quite different for me. Normally, Lanyon can grip me within just a few pages, so I’m not really sure how I feel about this book. I liked it, but it’s probably not my favorite. I do appreciate the details that the author put into this book though and I think readers will enjoy it, especially if they are big Ellery fans....more

HARD EDGE is book four in the Cobra Elite series by Pamela Clare. I’ve enjoyed Clare’s books in the past, but this new series is still warming up to me. I’m not sure if it’s because of the characters or if it’s because I’ve read more Romantic Suspense since I’ve read Clare’s I-team series, but I don’t feel like these books hit as hard as her other books have for me.
This book features Gabriela Marquez who is working undercover as sister Maria, a Franciscan nun. When she is taken as a hostage, that’s when the real action begins. Honestly, I never really warmed up to the heroine that much in this book. I’m really not sure why since she is obviously strong and intelligent, but something about her personality didn’t click with me. As a result, I couldn’t sympathize with her emotions as well as I have with past Clare heroines.
The same can be said for the hero, Dylan. Although he had all the aspects of a great hero there, something felt like it was missing from this book. It was missing a spark. So while I enjoyed the attention to detail, I wished that the romance was more focused on because I think I would have enjoyed this book a lot more.
While I enjoy Clare’s style of writing, this book didn’t quite meet my expectations. However, I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series....more

I was so excited to learn that Josh Lanyon was going to write Cozy Mysteries! As a fan of Lanyon’s writing style and Cozy Mysteries, I was looking forward to seeing what a mystery series from a M/M author would be like. I loved the Adrien English series, so I had some high expectations for this new one.
First off, the backstory of Rhode Island offers a different feel right off the bat. It has a little bit of an eerie vibe to it, so I think it matched well with the genre. Another big concept of the series is pirates so it was nice to see Lanyon playing around with that.
I was a little slow to like Ellery, but I do enjoy the writing style. It’s a bit slower than the other Mysteries that I like to read, but I liked the fact that the murder happened quickly. This entire book felt like a really short read to me, but all the aspects of a good mystery are there. I think it has a promising start and I am definitely looking forward to more from Ellery and Carson.
Oh yeah, in case you’re wondering, there’s no on-screen sex or violence in this book....more

Yay! It’s always exciting when a new Lara Adrian book comes out. I’ve been waiting for this book since March 2020 so I was really glad to finally have it in my hands. PLAY MY GAME continues the sizzling 100 days series, featuring Jared and Melanie.
This book opens up with an interesting premise. Melanie’s man has been keeping his gambling problem away from her and when he gets himself in a bind, Melanie actually ends up being the one to get him out of it. Instead of owing Jared money, she is to be his model for his next comeback. There’s not much conflict in this book, but I was still able to read it because of the characters. I found Jared to be alluring because of his dark ways although the author does play him up a bit more than is really necessary. Nevertheless, the impact is strong and I think that was what she was going for.
Melanie didn’t really wow me. However, I did appreciate her level head throughout this entire novel. I think instead of gushing over her character, I came to respect her a lot in the end and I think that’s probably just as good as falling in love with her. She didn’t immediately fall into Jared’s arms, but rather warmed up to him slowly and in a believable way. I ended up enjoying their romance tremendously.
PLAY MY GAME is a very quick read. I read it in one sitting, so I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is in need of a sexy refresher. It will definitely light your fire!...more

It’s been a while since I’ve read a Melissa Foster book, but I thought I would try to read something light after being in a reading slump. Unfortunately, I haven’t read the other books in this series, but I didn’t feel hindered by that at all.
Foster’s writing is very easy to read and consume. But I felt like this book was almost too light for what I was looking for. I totally enjoy light-hearted books with lots of banter and teasing, but the conversations that Piper and Harley had just seemed like filler to me. There’s a lot of humor in this book, mainly because of Harley’s character, but there’s not much conflict, tension, or drama. The entire book just stayed on one level and I was looking for at least something that made this book interesting.
Harley’s character also came off as too cocky in some places, so I never really fell in love with his character. He’s just not my type of hero. The descriptions throughout the book about how hot he was just seemed way too over the top. I get it, you’re hot. Let’s move on.
I probably won’t be reading the other books in the series and I’m still debating about whether I want to continue reading Melissa Foster. She has some good attributes to her books, but lately, I just feel like they aren’t providing enough conflict for me to continue reading them....more

With seventeen books in this series already, one would think that Grant would someday run out of ideas to write about. However, I do find that this series continues to be one that I look forward to. It has a softer touch than some of the othe paranormal romances I read. However, I like that there’s something very reliable and comforting about Grant’s writing. I know that I can count on her to deliver an entertaining book.
With FLAME, some interesting things begin to happen when an email is received from a member of the Other. Noreen is horrified by the Others’ plan for the Dragon Kings and so she secretly reaches out to warn them. I found this concept to be really fascinating and interesting. It’s definitely not one that I get to read often, so with that being said, I found myself really intrigued by this book. I like that Grant can come up with various couples in her series and having a book that features Cain and Noreen, a Dark Fae, it just made things so fun to read.
I would definitely recommend this book. It’s one of the few paranormal romance series that I think still has the spark of uniqueness....more

THE SUMMER DEAL is book five in the Wildstone series by Jill Shalvis, but I find that you can really read these books as a standalone. I didn’t have very much expectation about this book, so I went in with a very open mind.
One thing I liked about this book is the fact that Shalvis can make light out of every situation. Whether it’s something grim or just the characters hanging out, she manages to infuse the scene with her trademark humor.
However, I just don’t think I was a huge fan of the concept of this particular story. This book has three main characters. There’s Brynn who suffers from panic attacks. Then there’s Kinsey whose body is rejecting the organ she’d just had transplanted. And there’s Eli who has been best friends with Kinsey for his entire life. There is a romance that occurs in this book, but the relationship between Kinsey and Brynn is also quite important to the storyline.
In theory, I liked the sound of it. However while I was reading the book, I just thought that it was a bit grim. There were some parts I would have liked to see more of and other parts that I would’ve liked to skip over completely, so with that being said, I didn’t love all aspects of this book.
I do think that Shalvis is making a bigger effort to make her books less of just a romance and a put more Women’s Fiction elements into it. I just don’t know if I’m always going to be in the mood for this kind of writing all the time....more

It’s been a while since I picked up a Rhys Ford book, but when this book came in, I found myself once again intrigued by Cole McGinnis. He was a character that I enjoyed in the past and now that there are more stories with him and his partner, Jae, I guess I just missed them.
I will say that right off the bat that this book started off a little slow for me. I usually read a lot of M/M, especially the ones with suspense in them and although there’s action, there’s also a lot of idle narrative that kind of takes you out of it. So that would be my only real complaint about this book. Sometimes the author takes to long to keep the story going.
But it was nice to be back in this world and back to Ford’s writing. I think if you’re a fan of M/M suspense with a dash of mystery, then you’re going to enjoy this one too....more

Fantasy lovers have a big reason to rejoice! I was very excited and almost surprised when Anne Bishop announced that she would be returning to the world of the Black Jewels and would be writing a new book. However, I was excited to see how this return would pan out.
Much like the other books in the series, there are multiple points of views in this novel. I really love this because it gives the readers something always to look forward to. It never stalls and you’re bound to find your favorite character amongst the cast.
This is one of the series I find that are sometimes out of my limit. There are times when I really enjoy the storyline and the characters but since this is a Fantasy series, there are also a lot of twists and turns and I find that I don’t always like them. However, I am able to get out over and still enjoy the story as a whole. It’s just that sometimes straight-up Fantasy can be a lot to handle sometimes.
Nevertheless, I love the attention to detail and all the different storylines in this book. You can tell that Bishop spent a lot of time working out the small stuff so that it creates a smooth storyline. I hope to read more in the series!...more
I’m pretty late in the game on this series and that’s really only because I didn’t even know it existed. I used to be a really big fan of Pamela Clare’s I-team series and since this is the spin-off, I knew that I had to give it a try. Now, I didn’t start with the first book of the series. Instead, I jumped straight into HARD JUSTICE, which is the third book in the Cobra Elite series.
I think if you haven’t read the I-team series then you can probably get by with enjoying this one, but I think the true fun comes from seeing the cameos from some of the beloved characters of the original series. I know for me, it was one of the things that I most looked forward to.
However, that’s not to say that the characters don’t hold their on in this series. I do like Clare’s brand of characters. They are very knowledgeable and intense, and they often get themselves into a mess of a situation. However, through determination and grit, they are always able to pull through. I do think some of the “magic” that was in the I-team is missing in this series, but the Cobra Elite are definitely special in their own way too. It’s obvious that comparisons will be made, but nothing will likely ever top the original I-team series for me.
Nevertheless, I am intrigued about this series and I look forward to catching up with the other books. It’s nice to see Clare back in action, dishing out intense love stories with plenty of thrilling action and suspense....more

WOLF UNDER FIRE kicks off Paige Tyler’s new STAT (Special Threat Assessment Team) series. It’s very similar to her SWAT series, which is a paranormal romance that features shifters. I really enjoyed that series, so I was glad to see her continue on with that concept in this new series.
I’m not really sure what to say about this book because it is so similar with the other series. There’s plenty of action and amazing thrills in this book, so if you enjoy fast-paced suspense then I think that you will really enjoy it.
Jes’s character was a little slow to warm up to me in the beginning, but then once I got into the meat of the story, I started to enjoy her. The same went with Jake Huang. First off, I thought that it was incredibly cool to see Tyler feature an Asian hero. So many books, especially romantic suspense, feature predominately white males, so I thought it was incredibly unique and thoughtful of Tyler to represent someone else.
In the end, I really liked the book and I look forward to reading more of this new series....more
Kim Harrison delights fans by returning to her most prolific series, The Hollows. AMERICAN DEMON is the fourteenth book in the series and since it marks the return of everyone’s favorite witch-born demon, I would highly suggest reading the series in order.
The question that many readers probably have about this book is what more could happen if you’ve already saved the world? Harrison has her work cut out for her because readers' expectations will be high after the last rollercoaster ride she put us through. I think that she stayed true to Rachel and her gang of friends. With new murders and new characters, Harrison infuses the world that everyone has enjoyed already and gives it a fresh new kick. Loyal fans will absolutely eat this up.
You can expect a new demon as well as all the familiar faces of the cast. There is also a lot of interesting banter and action in this book. All in all, AMERICAN DEMON by Kim Harrison delivers a fun and exciting new story with the same heart as the previous books. This bright new revival will hopefully keep readers happy and excited for what’s to come next....more

Guess what! I’ve found my first 5-star read of 2020! CHASING CASSANDRA is the sixth book of the Ravenels series and I have to say, it is definitely one of my favorites. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like Tom Severin’s character as the lead, however, if there is one author who can make me love a hero, it is Lisa Kleypas.
I really don’t know what to say other than the fact that I want to marry him. It’s been a very, very long time since I’ve been swept away by a hero, but Tom really surprised me.
I loved how ruthless and calculating he could be. But then there’s also this playful side to him that I found fascinating. Kleypas really did a wonderful job with his character. And the same goes for Cassandra too. I think most people would feel a strong connection to Pandora before this book, but Cassandra’s personality really shone too.
My favorite aspect of this book, though, is the romance. Wow, it was so romantic. At times I was a little cheesy with some of the lines, but it definitely made my heart flutter a few times and for someone like me, who has read so many Romance books that it’s hard to remember, it felt nice to read something that really focused only on the romance. I loved the way their bond developed virtually from nothing to this strong connection. It made me that much more invested in the story.
So, with all that being said, you can definitely expect Tom and Cassandra to appear on my Best of 2020 list at the end of the year. I know we’re a long way off from then, but this book definitely stood out from all the books I’ve recently read....more

DELIVERED WITH A KISS is book four in Marie Harte’s Veteran Movers series. I’ve more or less enjoyed the books in this series, so I was looking forward to reading this one. I had no idea that this book was coming out, so it was a bit of a surprise release. However, I did enjoy Smith and Erin’s story.
I definitely think that you can read this book as a standalone but it does feature past characters who are always welcome in my book. I love the sense of community and family that Harte always brings to her books as well as the dose of humor and sexiness.
As of late, I do feel like the author hasn’t been writing as steamy scenes as some of her previous books, but I still enjoy the alpha heroes and military touches that this book has. It makes the heroes feel a little more larger than life but still also relatable. And Smith was a character that I think a lot of women will really enjoy.
I do believe that this is the last book in the series. It’s sad to see it end, but I do think that Harte did a good job with this Contemporary Romance series. They are my favorite of hers and I hope that she will write more sexy Contemporaries in the future!...more

Robb hits an incredible milestone with the 50th book of the In Death series. As one of my all-time favorite beloved series, I still can’t believe that Robb has been able to pen so many interesting and engaging books in one series.
In GOLDEN IN DEATH, a mysterious package is delivered to a physician who then opens it and dies of the toxins that escapes from it. The golden egg really fit the concept of this book and like I said, I find that Robb is consistently able to bring interesting concepts to this series that have never been done before. It’s an incredibly feat, considering that there are rarely ever overlaps and all the ideas are original.
I really loved this book. The pacing, as always, is on point, never letting up until the very last page. I have enjoyed the journey that Eve has gone through and find that I can relate to her the most out of all the heroines I’ve read about. And of course, there is Roarke, who is simply one of my favorite heroes of all time. I just adore how understanding and supportive he is of Eve and her career. It’s so inspiring to see their love grow and see their cooperation as they work on various cases together.
The mystery and romance is balanced well and there’s enough suspense to keep readers on their toes. This series continues to get better and now, I can’t imagine my bookshelves without Eve and Roarke on them.

I always look forward to Lara Adrian’s book and I have found that I really enjoy this series a lot. EDGE OF DARKNESS is book three in the Hunter Legacy series. Normally, I would say it’s better to read this series in order, but actually I think that this book stands alone really well.
For me, I did feel like the beginning was kind of slow. It feel like Knox and Leni had to take it slow because they were strangers in the beginning whereas some of the past couples that Adrian has featured at least knew each other in some way. Therefore, I do think there was a longer distance to cross with this romance in the beginning. However, despite Knox’s Breed status and his alpha attitude, I found him to be really sweet, especially when it came to Leni. His protectiveness made him really attractive and I definitely can find myself getting behind all of Adrian’s heroes.
Leni is a strong figure herself. However, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the secondary storyline regarding the people she knew. It just wasn’t that captivating to me. However, I still managed to get through it because I liked Knox so much. In the end, the pacing did pick up a bit and I found myself breezing through the rest of the book.
So despite the slow start, I do think that this romance burns strongly. Adrian pays attention to the details, making this book really enjoyable because of the fuller storyline. I can’t wait to read the next book!...more

I’ll be honest, I totally didn’t knew that Suzanne Enoch has a new series out, so when I stumbled across this book, I knew that I had to try it. I’m usually a bigger fan of her Victorian Historical Romances, but who can say no to a hot highlander?
Enoch pays a lot of attention to the details, which brings a really rich experience for the reader. However, I think that if you aren’t familiar with the terminology that Highlander Romances have, then you may find some bits confusing. She doesn’t really explain what the terms mean, so that might require some getting used to. But since I’ve read Historical Romance for years, I didn’t find it an issue for me. I am just mentioning it because I know that there will be some readers who may not familiar with the lingo.
Nevertheless, this romance does feature a lot of other things as well. The secondary cast are important and I think Enoch has plans to give everyone a story at some point. There’s lots of banter and cheer back-and-forth so I’m sure there will be a character that everyone will love. Since I didn’t read the first book in the series, I was a little lost in the beginning. But once I got my bearings, I did enjoy the book. I think I will be going back to read the first book in the series to be caught up....more

It’s been quite a long time since I’ve read a Paige Tyler novel and it’s been even longer since I’ve jumped back into the SWAT world. I don’t know why I derailed for a little bit, but I’m glad to have returned.
I don’t know if it’s my bad memory or something else, but WOLF REBEL felt a lot more action packed and suspenseful than I last remembered the series being. Since this is book ten in the series, it’s possible that Tyler has started to increase the dosage of her writing so that it hits harder and I have to say, I do like the result. This book felt a lot more like a suspense novel rather than the hybrid paranormal, which I really liked. I found the opening chapters to have an especially spooky and suspenseful vibe to it.
We get a lot of backstory for Rachel, which I think made her character really stand out a lot. She ended up being my favorite of the book even though I also liked Knox. I think that if you’re a fan of Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series, then you may enjoy the banter and worldbuilding that Paige Tyler has created here. The only difference is obviously that this one deals with werewolf shifters and Adrian’s series is about vampires. That being said, I look forward to reading more from Paige Tyler....more
