The author was actually sent to the Topaz internment camp, so it draws a lot on real experiences. My only caveat is that Single Isn’t Second-Best does a much better job of addressing Christian singles as Stuckey tends to follow the standard afterthought paragraph while discussing marriage and motherhood. It’s quite comforting to realize that, as an introvert, it’s perfectly normal that I can talk a million miles a minute for hours when someone triggers a topic I know a lot about but yet sometimes I feel like I sound as if I have a speech impediment (“if my tongue will work” is an oft used statement, particularly when I’m teaching). ...more
