However, what IDetective Siv Drummond is back in this brilliant addition to the series. This is book 5 in the series but they do work as stand alone. However, what I love about this series is the family dynamics between Siv, Rik and Mutsi it brings humour and interest to the series.
Lansdown Court has a selection of arts and crafts businesses and the victim runs one of the shops with her sister. However, it is Jem's shop in which the body is found which opens up the number of suspects that could be responsible.
The main question for Siv and her team is why kill Lu? She seemed to be well liked and had no enemies. Several people had the opportunity but the evidence points to no=one in particular. The team have their own favourites for the crime but they are all wrong.
This is a gripping story with so many red herrings and false leads. Lies are many and Siv realises that she is faces with a lot of twisted and intertangled web of lies, secrets, revenge and more. Can she sort the wheat from the chaff and crack this case?
Love meeting up with the familiar characters and reading more about Siv's relationship with her family. The characters' personalities continue to develop and bring interest to the story. It all fits together very well to make a gripping, suspenseful read that I absolutely loved....more

RThis is book 5 in the Detective Ray Flowers series. I have read book 4 but not the first 3 (yet) so I can confirm they work perfectly as stand alone.
Ray is a private detective and is contacted by Libby to ask him to search for her missing daughter in law. However, right from the beginning the questions start pinging up: Why did Libby choose Ray rather than a PI with more experience of finding missing people? Is it just a coincidence that the main suspect is a friend of his? The questions keep coming with no answers.
As the story continues it soon becomes clear that Ray and his family are somehow involved in this case. Can Ray keep his family and friends safe while he finds out what is going on?
This is a very gripping story that keeps the suspense building all the way through. Many twists and turns ensure that the pages keep turning all the way to an adrenaline pumping ending. Absolutely brilliant.
The characters I have met before continue to flesh out as their personalities develop and the new ones bring new dimensions.
It did leave a few unanswered questions which was disappointing but overall it was a very good read that I recommend to anyone who loves crime fiction. I am looking forward to the next in the series.

The Beach Huts on the Spit have become much sought after holiday homes, the cost of owning one is out of reach of many people. For Malcolm his beach hut is home and being eccentric he has personalised it with shells and other items. It is loved by some and hated by others but everyone is shocked when it burns down with Malcolm inside. There are no clues and the Charity Shop ladies are tasked with investigating.
This is an intriguing story that keeps the pages turning. Many suspects but little in the way of leads and a bizarre source of the fire has everyone baffled, including the Police.
But the 3 ladies are not ones to give up and keep on with their detective work.
Some very unique larger than life characters. You have to love Bitsy and she is offset brilliantly by the unlikeable Sophie. The book moves along at a steady pace but is very descriptive and I think that detracts from the story quite a bit.
However, a good read and a real shock at the end to make persevering worthwhile. ...more
Stewart Giles is on a roll this year writing one stunning book after another and each one more gripping and adrenaline pumping than the last. So I setStewart Giles is on a roll this year writing one stunning book after another and each one more gripping and adrenaline pumping than the last. So I settled down to see what he has in store for the York detectives this time.
I wasn't to be disappointed, far from it. This is another completely unique story with twists and turns along the way. It begins with 2 explosions in different houses. Smith doesn't believe in coincidences and is sure the 2 are connected but when the forensics results are in the team soon realise that something really evil is happening among the teenage population of York but who is behind it and how many will die before Smith and the team can work out what is going on?
Absolutely gripping I was turning page after page and if the suspense written into the story is not enough there is also the back story of Lucy to add to the overall experience.
Familiar characters continue to develop and bring their personalities and backgrounds to the story. New characters are introduced to add variety and interest. Everything I want from a crime thriller and more this is an absolutely stunning read that kept the adrenaline pumping all the way to the very end.

Jackman and Sam are struggling with bereavement while Marie is moving on in her relationship with Ralph so it was to be expected that this book would be emotional in parts. However, only a very small and relevant part that fit in with the story.
It begins with the discovery of a body that of a fit, attractive young man that has even Rory feeling saddened at the unnecessary loss of life. Who is this young man? Why has nobody missed him? The team are struggling to identify him.
In the meantime Marie is contacted by an old colleague, Dougie he has been advising on the set of a film about Policing on the Fens and felt there was a crime being committed but has no idea what that crime may be. Whatever it is Dougie feels his life is in danger.
As the team try to identify the body and track down his murderer Marie and Jackman are curious about what is going on during the filming and are busy making enquiries under the radar. The last thing anyone is expecting is for a nemesis from their past to rear its ugly head and send everyone's lives spiralling out of control.
What a story! Absolutely and totally gripping I was reading well into the night even as my vision was blurry and my eyelids closing. Then re-reading the following day to ensure I missed nothing. Page after page, chapter after chapter of adrenaline pumping suspense all the way through. The ending is absolutely mind-blowing. A massive curve ball and definitely one I wasn't expecting.
This is one brilliant book I love all Joys book but this one I feel is way 'up there' among the very best I have ever read. She has used the personalities of the characters we know and love and fit them into an absolutely phenomenal story. I love the addition of Julia she brings a new, unique character to the series that works perfectly.
Definitely a 5 star read - absolutely love this so much I will be reading it again which is something I rarely do.

The book is set in 1946 after the end of the war and the damage that was done to the area and its residents comes accross well in the book.
I like the characters they fit well with the story and develop over the course of the book.

This is a brilliant story that had me hooked. The characters fit the story well, some I liked and some I didn't. Some I would have liked to know more about. Deb the friendly server flits in and out of the story without knowing much about her likewise Savanna. However the main characters were realistic and developed well.
I like the theory of alternate timelines but this one didn't seem to work for me I suppose in my logical mind I am willing to believe there may be windows to another time but for me those windows would need to be accessed in strict criteria - the same date and time etc whereas in this book just falling from a cliff could cause you to end up in a different timeline.
I also felt the ending left too many unanswered questions.

Raine is ex-police a woman battered by life on a mission to take down the bad guys no matter what. She cares little for herself and is a one woman fighting machine. She has history with Hume a shared loss that links the women.

Forensics reveal his coat has the blood of 3 other women one of which is a young lady, Julie, Raine has been trying to find. What is the connection between the unidentified man and Julie?
This is a very complex story with a lot of strands it takes the team quite a while to work out just what they are investigating and even when they think they have worked it out as they join up the dots they suddenly realise that the actual truth of what is going on is more horrific than any of them ever imagined.

The story is very intriguing it has a bit of a locked room mystery going on and tragedy from many years ago rears its head to play its part in the story. It begins with the murder of a mother and her 2 children it appears to be cut and dried but then things change. As with all the books in this series I was guessing and changing my mind all the way through. So many twists and turns to keep me gripped and turning page after page.
The characters continue to have something more to give as their personalities develop further and relationships and family dynamics evolve bringing interest to the story.

I was very excited when I heard she had written the first in a detective series set not far from where I live and the book certainly delivered on my expectations.
With first in a new series you expect a certain amount of character building but the author has very skilfully built the characters and set the scene as part of the story so the characters develop seamlessly over the course of the book.
The story is a very intriguing one that kept my attention all the way through. It begins with the body of a man found frozen to death. When Della and her colleagues arrive to investigate they soon realise this is going to be a very tough case to crack. The residents of the street where the victim lived are very close but the team take a while to realise that they are closer than anyone thought possible.
I love the characters Della is kind and easy to get along with her boss isn't which makes for an interesting dynamics within the team. I like the way teams from other areas nearby are also brought into the story adding to the framework of the story. It is set in 1990s so I had to bear in mind that forensics were not quite as advanced as now and there was a lot more drudge and leg work needed than may be the case today but again that added to the appeal of the book.
The ending is a very unusual one. Overall a brilliant read that I really enjoyed and I am very much looking forward to meeting up with Della and her team in the next book.

Along with the familiar characters there are some new ones. I particularly like Mu she brings a lot to the story. All the characters old and new have their own personalities and fit together well.
The story is gripping and has you hooked from the very first page. The tension mounts throughout the book as one adrenaline pumping scene after another present themselves seemingly on every other page all the way to the edge-of-your-seat ending when a violent storm and the climax of the story join to create the most suspenseful ending I have read in a long time.

Dogwalkers often find dead bodies. Dogs are inquisitive animals and their sense of smell will soon pick up anything out of the ordinary that needs to be investigated. BUT what are the chances of the same dogwalker finding more than one body? Smith is sceptical he is convinced it is no coincidence but neither is there any evidence to prove it isn't. This is a case that is going to test Smith's detective skills (and his patience) to the limit.
There are so many twists and turns in this story as the York Detectives try to unravel the secrets and lies that continue to lead them in the wrong direction. When the dots finally connect it will leave you shaking your head in disbelief that you got it so wrong. Brilliant story.
In addition to the gripping story there is also the home life of the Smith's to add to the stress. Lucy is still a cause for concern and the Viaduct continues to overshadow the Smith family and everyone who was involved in that case.
Another brilliant read and a chance to catch up with much loved characters. I am sure these books just get better and better. Well done Stewart Giles you have knocked the ball out of the park with this one, absolutely awesome!

Not just any book it was being used as a bookmark in a book about THE BUTTON KILLER. 2 decades ago Helen's father worked himself into the ground trying to catch the Button Killer and he succeeded. The killer is behind bars. But then bodies start appearing that have all the marks of being the work of THE BUTTON KILLER. Either they have a copycat or her dad put the wrong man away. Helen is in a race against time to find out the truth before more people die.
An absolutely gripping read that keeps the pages turning. So many twists and turns that lead to dead ends. Helen is suspecting everyone except the right person and as we approach the ending and the identity is revealed I am sure you will be as shocked as I was.

Identification is difficult but when they have a possible identification they realise there is much more to this murder than they first thought. BURNT OUT SECRETS sees the introduction of a new main character: Superintendent Samson Kane. He is a strange character but he grew on me over the course of the book and he does fit in really well. Also we revisit the circumstances that caused the death of Rutherford's wife which added to the suspense and intrigue and also fleshed out Barnes' character.
The story is full of intrigue and suspense with many relationships intertangled and many of the characters have secrets they want to keep hidden. People trafficking, bent coppers, drugs, murder, torture lies and revenge. This book has it all. I found the descriptive text detracted from the story quite a bit but not enough to put me off.
The book is in 3 parts and part 3 is where it all begins to come together and I was flabbergasted when the truth was revealed and before I had collected my thoughts we were approaching the absolutely mind blowing ending.

The book is fast paced from the prologue to the epilogue I was turning page after page unable to put it down until I had read a little bit more…. It is very well written with developed characters and interesting, intriguing cases being investigated. I had several outcomes in my mind but none of them came close to what actually happened. Tom's wife went missing leaving behind a lot of blood and very few clues as to what had happened to her. When a plane crashes with Tom on board the only survivor is Detective Carter McLean. He is badly injured and has been on desk duty since becoming fit for work. The story sees his return to active duty under the care of Jackman and Evans.
We see the characters of Jackman and Evans develop further and I grow to love them even more over the course of this book and the other members of the team also grow more into robust characters each with their skills and strengths. Rowan is a compassionate and fair leader of a very productive team and has a very efficient back up with Marie Evans.
Carter McLean is the main character in this story as he is haunted by his dead friends and suffering from post-traumatic stress everyone is keeping a very close eye on him. The suspense and intrigue start at the beginning and continue all the way through to the totally mind-blowing ending. I was trying to work it out but I had absolutely no idea and that was the last person I suspected.
I like the way the characters developed and how the author dealt with the effect of death on each of them in a way that matched their personalities. I have loved every single book and have watched this partnership of very lovable rogues put their lives on the line to take down the bad guys in whatever way they can.
The book begins with the heinous murder of a mother and her 2 young children. It soon becomes clear that they have a sadistic killer on their hands, a very fit and agile killer that challenges even the very fit Paterson.
Paterson and Clocks have suffered during their efforts to clean up Bermondsley as the series progresses we realise that each case affects both of them and also their team but they can't and won't give up. Being a team means they stick together and have each others' backs but have they gone too far this time?
The suspense begins on the first page and doesn't let up. Adrenaline pumping twists and turns all the way through keep the reader turning page after page. There is no let up this is like a non-stop roller coaster ride like you have never seen. WOW!
And as always and ending you definitely won't see coming. Mind-blowing.
Absolutely brilliant! Definitely one of the best books I have read in a long time. 5 stars from me. ...more

Kit is a maid. She loves her job she goes into houses when the occupants are at work and as well as cleaning she likes to have a snoop around. She is very excited when she gets a new client but when she sees the pictures and photos she realises that this is the house of a man who wrecked her life when she was just a teenager.
But Kit is no longer that person, she is older, wiser more confident and she has the keys to his house.
The book begins with a murder but no body and missing homeowners. It is obvious something happened and there is too much blood for the victim to be alive so the detectives have their work cut out trying to find out what happened.
This book has intrigue by the skip load and so many twists and turns it was like being on a roller coaster and the ending is just absolutely mind blowing. The adrenaline starts pumping at the beginning and doesn't stop until the very last page.
The story begins at the end and then goes back to the beginning to tell the story via the Maid's diary It is a very unusual book and one I absolutely love.
The characters are a good fit for the story and develop well into their personalities and there is just enough of the personal lives to make the whole story work very well.
A stunning read and definitely 5 stars from me....more
