Thankfully I continued on and, as the title would suggest, if you do the same Griselda and Holden's story will Never Let You Go.
This is the story of two children who were placed in the same foster home, suffered greatly at the hands of a sick man, survived a heart wrenching separation yet reunited many years later. Their journey is so heartbreaking because of its tragic realism. Throughout their years together, the two swore to never let go and even apart they held close to this promise. Their time apart varied greatly, yet neither was able to truly live - not until their surprising reunion. Still, their scars run deep and unfortunate circumstances keep them from becoming completely whole as individuals and a couple. Their strength, throughout their story, was immeasurable and admirable.
Holden's journey (view spoiler)[in the Marine Corps (hide spoiler)] brought back a lot of good memories. (view spoiler)[I met my husband before he joined the USMC and I wrote him daily throughout bootcamp and training. Similar to Holden and Griselda, we were married following graduation. (hide spoiler)]
This installment of Katy Regnery's Modern Fairytale series was a bit too long, IMHO. But, in the end, I know that the story of this modern-day Hansel and Gretel will stay with me. I look forward to reading more of Regnery's tales.

Taryn is a latent (non-shifting) Alpha female and the healer of a pack lead by her father. After a forced marking by a jerk, Taryn is approached by Trey and an offer is made. Would she mate with him? This would stop the jerk from mating with Taryn and possibly give him the alliances needed to halt his uncle's challenge and attempt at merging Trey's old pack (his Uncle's current pack) and his new one. Seeing it as a win-win scenario, Taryn accepts his offer.
"Love is giving someone the power to completely destroy you, and hoping that they won't."
What follows is a very well told story of how two people who believe they've each missed out on their once-in-a-lifetime love realize things don't always go as planned. Taryn's way of coping with the hate her latency attracts tends to be either a punch to the nose or a snarky remark, sometimes both. She might not be able to shift, but she's not weak or submissive; she's a strong Alpha female. In fact, she's much stronger than anyone believes.
I loved getting to know these two and all of the members of Trey's pack. I look forward to continuing on with the series and eventually starting Wright's spin-off, Spiral of Need (Mercury Pack #1). I also enjoyed the included snippet of Here Be Sexist Vampires, so I plan to check that series out as well....more

I'm SUPER excited about it because it just might mean more of Anna Strong, which I thought ended in 2013. This short is a nice bridge to what could be the beginning of a series continuation.
Anna's in France with family when several girls go missing. She teams with up Vlad to stop it from continuing and hopefully save her niece's friend. What happens between the two is a shock to Anna (view spoiler)[
~ Vlad wants to rule with Anna
"From the moment I saw you, I knew. Since my wife centuries ago, you are the first woman whom I could love as an equal."
~ Anna's shocked, understandably, because he knows she's in love with and faithful to her new husband, Frey; they're just starting their life together with his son JJ
~ She does owe him a debt for his help in the past - he's helped save those she loves, so she agrees to help him vanquish the vampires responsible for the kidnappings, but nothing else:
"If I do this [...] It will be the last thing I can do for you. It will mean the end of our friendship. And it can never be known that I was with you when the six are vanquished."
~ He promises, but still believes they'll see each other again
~ He also abdicates to Amélie and Alexander; he's leaving France (hide spoiler)]

Harper Wallis may be a member of the infamous Wallis family of imps, but she's not an imp - she's a sphinx without wings. She has an unusual ability that comes in handy when others mistakenly think she's easy prey.
Demons were predominately psychic creatures. They didn't have soul mates, but they came in pairs. That meant they each had a predestined psychic mate, or 'anchor', who made them stronger and gave them the stability that prevented them from turning rogue.
By fusing their psyches, a powerful, unbreakable link form between the demons. It wasn't sexual or emotional, it existed on a psychic level.
When Harper meets Knox Thorne, badass demon with off-the-charts power and Prime of the Las Vegas lair, she's surprised to realize he's her anchor. He doesn't appear to need the assistance an anchor would offer and she's not one to depend on anyone but herself, so she's not jumping at the chance to bond with him. But, Knox isn't only interested in the anchor bond, he's after Harper herself. She intrigues him and it's been a long time since he or his demon have felt such a strong attachment to another - he's not willing to let her get away.
Their budding romance (which is slow to boil and then blistering hot) is only a part of the story. There are demon strays (those living outside of a Prime-protected lair) missing and, as a way to stop this and other problems from happening, several demons believe it's time to have a Monarch in charge of all.
I'll most definitely be continuing on with this series. Suzanne Wright does an excellent job of creating her demon world, building the character base and setting the stage for what is sure to be one of my favorite series. She dumps a lot of information on you in Burn, but it's all done in a way that feels fluid and not at all overwhelming. (✮✮✮✮½)...more

Initially, I found the story to be a bit confusing. It's a short book (~ 120p), so I expected things to be made clearer sooner. Words were used to describe the world and the characters, but there was no explanation for the words, if that makes sense. Once I had a better understanding of the world, the story moved rather quickly and I enjoyed the ride.
I'm fascinated by the idea of interacting with others within shared dreams. I will definitely continue the series.

The Deep Blue Sea is a mysterious bar where Niki Slobodian, a Abnormal PI who has been forced out of work and put on the New Government's Registry, meets Sam. She's not sure what to think of Sam or his job offer. He's claiming to be able to get her removed from the Registry, which she previously believed to be impossible, not to mention offering her a great sum of money. Quickly running out of funds to support herself and her ailing grandmother, Niki agrees to take the job offered. Sam sends Robert "Bobby" Gage, who is skilled in the art of magic, with her. Their job: hunt the Dark (demon) that has escaped from an opening in Hell.
I will definitely continue to read this series. It was a happy surprise to find that I'd grabbed books 2-3 while they were also free on Amazon. ...more
