Hazel pulled pulsing sound into her lungs. Beside her, a grave-eyed young man made the air crackle around him. She made a wish. Let tonight never end. Let the music play on and on."
Sometimes you finish a book, think about it for a week or so after, and then move on. And then sometimes, you finish a book and you're not sure if you can ever think about another book again. The latter is true for me. Lovely War is an unforgettable experience. We follow the Greek gods during WWII who narrate the story of two men and two women whose lives are mixed up in WWI, and I have literally read nothing like it before. The only thing I can even think to compare it to is The Book Thief, and that's because it's one of the only book that still haunts me to this day, but in the best way possible. The characters are so fleshed out that they come alive on the pages and made me feel like I personally knew them by the end of the novel, and I so hated to say goodbye. I would follow these characters for twenty more books if I had the chance. I really don't want to share a whole lot about this book because it worked out so well for me to just go into it knowing it's Greek mythology in historical fiction. I cannot stress enough how much I recommend everyone pick this book up. I haven't read anything from Julie Berry before, but I will definitely be picking up everything I can by her now. I want to rave and rave about this book, but I'm gonna keep it short and simple. This is one of my favorite books of all time now and I am so happy that I had the opportunity to get my hands on an arc. SERIOUSLY would recommend, y'all....more

OOOOHH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. WOW. I am letting everyone know now that this is not going to be cohesive in any way and will consist entirely of me fangirling about how much I love this book and Maurene Goo. I literally just finished this book not five minutes ago but I have to talk about it immediately. This is HANDS- DOWN one of my favorite contemporaries of ALL TIME. Everything about this book makes my heart happy and I want to read about these characters so much more. I'm thinking of this book right now as The Sun Is Also a Star (which I loved, 5/5 stars), but like 50 times better. That's seriously saying something because I love Nicola Yoon and that book. But this book... I really don't have the words to describe how amazing this book is, but I'm gonna try.
Okay, actually, I just remembered this is an arc, and I don't want to go into too many details since this book doesn't come out until May, so here's more of a vague list of everything I loved. - Lucky. Seriously one of the most down to earth female characters I've read in a while. I can't tell you the last time I've read about a famous person in a YA novel because it's usually not my taste, but oh my god. She's so likable and I love her with all my heart. I think a lot of YA readers will definitely appreciate her character. Is this too many details? I don't know I'm just so excited. Okay back to just list form. - Jack. (*swoons*) - The fact that this book takes place basically in the span of one weekend but still had me falling in love with everything. -The whole entire plot?? So vague I know but TRUST ME it's so good.
Look I can't even describe the things I love about this book well because it's seriously everything. I'm moving this right to my favorites shelf, and I will definitely be buying a finished copy of this book when it comes out (and I hope everyone else does too). Thank you to Fierce Reads for letting me get my hands on this beautiful book a few months early!!...more
