First of all, there were a lot of spelling, grammar, and other mistakes in the language which kind of disturbed my reading experience. First I thought that the author might be German, but then the use of the german words was so strange, somebody who's mother language is German would never use them this way. And there were mistakes in building the plural of the german words too. So I guess some good proofreading might do the book good. But nonetheless it was an interesting read. There were times when I was surprised about myself when certain scenes turned me on even though I should have been disgusted by them. But being German I just cannot accept how the Nazis and the horrors of Auschwitz and other KZs were somehow softened in this book. Even though the medical experiments the Nazis did with Jews and other 'abnormal' people were described in detail and showed how brutal they were, the fact that it was written in a way to turn the reader on somehow took the horror out of these scenes. And there is just no way that Stockholm syndrome can go as far as in this book. Unfortunately, the fact that some of these torturers survived and were able to lead a comfortable life after the 3rd Reich, is accurate. Even in german politics you found some of them in high positions after the war. If I would be forced to rate this book I wouldn't be able to choose between 5 stars and 1 star. But on the other side, this is exactly what defines a good book. That it leaves you intrigued and provokes strong reactions and discussions. So I'll give it 4 stars because of these reservations....more

It is just like life, but fortunately it has a HEA. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it away. All these plans we make that get changed by life itself and wrong choices and others that mean well but do wrong. Once, I started reading, I couldn't stop and spent a whole rainy sunday with this book. It made me cry which doesn't happen often. And when I ended it, I was kind of sad not because of the ending, but because it was over. I would have liked to continue reading. I was part of the book from the beginning. It felt like a good friend who told me his story. I am glad that I read 'Something like summer' before this book, so I knew about the end. Otherwise it would have made me cry again. It was great to read the whole story from a different perspective. I can hardly wait to read 'Something like winter'. It's supposed to rain next weekend again. ;-) For those who don't know the story: The books tells the story of Jace. It starts with an attempted suicide because once he realises he's gay he's afraid to end old and lonely. But then he meets Victor and his life changes. Jace will meet more guys over the years before Ben, the main character from 'Summer'. But the most important thing: He won't end lonely. He will find lots of love in his life....more
First of all, like all of Erno's books, this book was very well written. You are part of the story from the first page. But that's exactly the reason First of all, like all of Erno's books, this book was very well written. You are part of the story from the first page. But that's exactly the reason why it's also very disturbing. I am for all kinds of kinky sex and have nothing against slave/Master relationships as long as it's consensual. But in this book, it is not. In the Puppy Love series, we learn to understand how a D/s relation can establish, but here I cannot understand at all why the main character lets himself get abused. It's also very disturbing to see a bunch of guys cheering when one of them gets raped, cause that's exactly what's happening again and again in this book. I can honestly say that I don't want to live in a world where young men are that cold-hearted and I am glad that I never had to experience anything even remotely like it. But then I read the paper and see that this seems to be what happens in some schools. Just last week an elite high school in Switzerland was closed due to abuse from one group of pupils to another. And then I hope that maybe some of them will read this book and start thinking about how they are acting. The warning at the beginning of the book is very well deserved. People who are easily offended should not read it. Those who are looking for hot rape phantasies should not read it either cause there is nothing hot in these scenes. I can't really say why someone should read this book other then that it captured my attention until the end. I couldn't stop reading cause I wanted to see how it continued. And because it is very difficult to write a book that keeps you interested even though the content is so disturbing is what makes Jeff Erno such a good writer. And that's why I give this book 4 stars despite it's controversial subject....more

It is very well written and portraits the life of a man in his fourties who has once been a model and actor, was married to an actrice, has a son who is already starting college, is now living as a well-known screenplay writer and discovers his homosexuality in a world where gays are hiding in the arms of female companians. It feels as if the author has a lot of first knowledge about these surroundings. It's a life of parties and leasure where it's always the same people meeting in the same locations gossiping about each other. Clubs of gays with their beards and secret orgys, but also older men who are paying for their younger lovers. That's where the author meets Gerry who is 20 years younger and also living with an old rich man, but even though he's at first repulsed he soon falls in love with him. The story has a HEA, but no hot sex scenes. The sex is always written very discreetly. It took me a moment to get into the story because the style was so much different from the way it would have been written today, but then I really enjoyed reading it....more

Alex is everything he's looking for in a guy: Strong, confident, very masculine even though he's rather small and boyish. They soon become friends, but what Frank doesn't know is that Alex is a transman. Once he learns about Alex' female parts, it takes him a while to accept him as he is, but in the end they live happily everafter. F64.0 is the definition of transsexuality in the ICD-10 table which means that in Germany transsexuality is still seen as a desease.
