The story weaves so many threads and events that generate suspicion on the different passengers and also call into question our narrator, Lo. There is a pretty dramatic surprise that continues to build into more twists. The book seems to wrap up the story but then you cannot help but wonder if there is still more plotting going on.
Ware tells a story that creates such suspense and drama that you cannot help but feel much of the anxiety and frustration that Lo experiences. All in all the character development and plot are very well written and there is enough of a twist to not feel formulaic...more

I enjoyed reading this book about Sabrina and her sleuthing. I realize this is the first book in the series and Ms. Potts was setting the storyline up including the back story. That being said it felt a bit jumpy at times. There was a bit too much internal reflection by Sabrina during the times she was questioning suspects. It made the story flow less smoothly. It felt a little info groups how it would be light hearted and about food and then the paragraphs of deep introspection would occur. I did enjoy the story and intend to read more of the series I appreciated that Sabrina was a strong character and there are layers to her personality. Her relate with the other characters add to the story. Particular the twist that she's dating the detective in charge of the case and how they deal with it. I look forward to seeing how the series progresses and resolves the outstanding questions...more

I find it engaging to read along as Laurie Moran works with her production team to investigate old criminal cases. They interview the key players from the cases, many of whom are living under clouds of suspicion due to the unsolved nature of the case. The books also engage the reader in the characters and you can envision their feelings and reactions to the different situations.
Overall I find these books enjoyable and sincerely hope Alafar continues to write these books now that Mary Higgins Clark has died....more

In many ways it reminded me of John Knowles A Separate Peace. Similar premise of an event at a school with a flashback story telling style. While Tartt's writing is good, it feels like it is too long at times. I had a similar reaction to Goldfinch when I read it a few years ago. Basically, I neither love nor hate the book. I'm just somewhat indifferent to it.
Be aware the book is full of drug and alcohol references so if this is not appropriate for the intended reader this may not be the best selection for them....more

In this case though, the story centers around Teddy Fay aka Billy Barnett and his role as a Hollywood producer and stuntman. We find ourselves caught up in the world of the Centurion movie studios. Dino Bachetti's son, Ben, and his wife, Tessa, play a role in this book as does Stone's son, Peter. Stone and Mike Freeman make cameo appearances as well.
Billy is acting in the new movie being produced by Peter under the pseudonym of Marc Weldon. His multiple identities leads to some confusion as to who is trying to kill him and for what reason. The story, as are many of the books in the series, is a bit unbelievable but I still find them enjoyable. Stealth finds Stone in the UK for the entire book, no Turtle Bay house visits and minimal interaction with Joan. He does visit with Holly, Felicity, Dino, Viv and CIA director Lance Cabot. Not suprisingly, Stone ruffles some feathers and lands in the bedroom repeatedly in this current title. He meets his newest romantic partner as well as his nemesis for this installment while laid up in a military hospital following a car wreck. From there the intrigue, espionage, and plot turns commence.

In this Aloha Betrayed is a typical Jessica Fletcher mystery. Where she innocently gets wrapped up in a murder case while going about her daily life. In this instance she was in Maui on a paid teaching assignment. She was co-teaching new police recruits techniques for using the community around them to assist in their job. Her teaching partner, Mike Kane, ended up being her detecting partner as well. Mike is a well revered, retired police detective from the Maui Police force.
Together the two investigate the death of a new acquaintance of Jessica's, Mala Kapule. Mala was the niece of a medical school classmate of Jessica's friend, Seth Hazlett, whom Jessica looked up upon her arrival to Maui. Mala had suffered a seemingly tragic slip off a coastal cliff but to Mike and Jessica it didn't seem to be as it appeared.
While looking into the tragic death, we follow Jessica around the island of Maui. We venture with her on her sightseeing trips to Haleakala, a luau and more. The story of course wraps up with Jessica solving the case before she needed to return to the mainland. You cannot help but have a bit of sorrow for Louise and wonder what drive her to her vicious acts. The immense impact of mothers guilt is apparent in Myrame.
While I did find the book very engaging I did come away wishing we had been given more background explanation of how Louise came to this point in life.
