I thought the story was really sweet and extremely fluffy! I could easily see this becoming a cute Netflix romcom movie.
I will say there were a few parts of this book that felt a bit slow and then the ending felt kind of rushed. I also didn't 100% feel the spark in the romantic relationship until the end of the book. However, it was still a fun and charming read. I will say, I was actually surprised with how I really couldn't predict what was going to happen! I feel like most contemporary romances are extremely predictable, so I liked that this author managed to keep me on my toes!
If you are in the mood a quick and light contemporary romance, I recommend giving this a read!...more

I thiGoing into this book, I was expecting this to be a sweet and adorable romance novel, and I was surprised by how much romance it actually lacked. I think that took enjoyment away from me, because I kept waiting for the romance to happen, but it didn't really happen until the end of the book. That being said, the romantic moments with Lucas at the end of the book did melt my heart and make me feel the swoon factor I was craving. I just wish there would have been more moments like that throughout the entire book, because I felt like that is what this book was marketed as. I just kept waiting for the romance to happen, so I was disappointed when it didn't happen until the end.
There were also some scenes in this book that I felt like warranted a trigger warning, because they were quite graphic and unexpected in my opinion.
The male love interest, Lucas, really got on my nerves. in the beginning of this book. As soon as we got to see present day Lucas, I was immediately turned off by his behavior. To be honest, he was being an ass hat to and I just wanted to shake some sense into him! Yes, he did change throughout the story and he explained and redeemed himself, but I just wish it didn't take as long as it did to get there. He might have ended the book being cute and romantic, but I couldn't COMPLETELY forget how much he previously annoyed me.
The humor in this book was top-notch and definitely my favorite part of this book. I found myself laughing out loud SO MANY TIMES at the sassy and sarcastic remarks throughout the story. I also loved the dynamics between Georgina and her friends, which gave me modern day Bridge Jones vibes. The way they interacted with each other felt so real and added a lot of heart and humor to the book. The one issue, for me, with having so many characters was that it took away from the romance that I was CRAVING.
Overall, I thought this book did have a great message and I really enjoyed the self-growth journey Georgina went on. If you are looking for a humorous chick-lit book with a DASH of romance, I would definitely recommend this book!...more

Every time I read one of Patricia's books, I know I am in for an action-packed and addicting book. Thankfully, this book was just that! This book was thrilling, addicting, and captivating. I would expect nothing less from Patricia!
I loved catching up with Mercy and her gang, however, there were some frustrating moments between Adam and Mercy. Adam was acting so...not like himself in this book and his lack of openness and communication with Mercy made me want to rip my hair out. I know their relationship can't be perfect and they will have their up and downs, but this drama felt like it could have been easily solved. Once Adam finally opened up, his actions that previously annoyed me made sense, but I just wish he would have been more open with Mercy from the beginning. Thankfully, Mercy handled the situation with grace and maturity (which I knew she would). Mercy was understanding throughout the entire situation and she didn't jump to any conclusions, which I was so thankful for. WE STAN!
Once they were able to talk about what Adam was going through, they went back to being the couple I have known and loved for so many years! I WILL NEVER STOP SHIPPING THEM!
Of course there was plenty of wonderful world-building and storytelling in this book, and they were my favorite elements of this book. The plot was so interesting and addicting, I honestly couldn't put the book down! I felt like I never truly knew who to trust or what was going to happen next, which was so thrilling. I can't wait to see what Patricia will introduce to us next, because I know her imagination is endless.
Overall, this was a great addition to the Mercy series! I cannot wait to see what Patricia comes out with next!

I loved all of the Jane Austen quotes at the beginning of each chapter! I also loved how the main character, Vicky, constantly thought about Jane Austen's books. She was always putting herself in the shoes of Austen's characters and thinking "How would Elizabeth Bennett act in this situation?". It was both charming and extremely relatable!
I liked the characters well enough. No one really stood out to me as an extremely memorable character, but I did appreciate Vicky as a character. Vicky's love for Jane Austen's books was extremely relatable. There were times that Vicky kind of came off as spoiled, but I did appreciate a lot of her witty and sassy comments!
The thing I liked the least about this book was the plot. This book was honestly just...boring. I felt like the plot was so dense and SLOW. I wanted to skim a lot of chapters, because it just felt like NOTHING WAS HAPPENING. I also was expecting there to be a very swoony romance through out the book, but it honestly didn't really develop until the end of the book. There were also "plot twists" that were so predictable, it was hard to hold back an eye roll. I was just expecting more excitement, romance, and intrigue plot-wise.
Even though I am just lukewarm about this book, I know a lot of people loved this book so I would say give it a shot of the description sounds up your alley!...more

The author's creativity really shined throughout the story, and I would have liked to see even more of the world. Since this was such a short book and and a stand alone, I felt like there wasn't enough time to truly develop the world. There were so many things I had questions about, and I wish I would have been able to have those questions answered.
I liked the characters and I thought the author developed them at a believable pace, especially for a short fantasy novel. Each character had a lot of depth to them and I like watching them grow through out the story. By the end of the book, I felt like I connected with Enna and Maekallus so much and I didn't want to say goodbye to them!
I will say that I found it a little odd that there weren't a lot of side characters in this book. It was mainly just Maekallus and Enna and I liked them, but I would have enjoyed seeing a bigger cast of characters.
The romance was interesting and well paced. I am a BIG fan of "Beauty and the Beast" and I thought this author nailed making a retelling of the classic fable. I honestly want more of their relationship because I ship them SO HARD.
Overall, I thought this was a unique and memorable read. I am crossing my fingers that the author will magically decide to write more books with Enna and Maekallus because I want to see more of them! I also would love to see the author develop this world more, because I knew there is so much magic to be discovered and explored in this world. ...more

I have heard great things about this book, so I was a bit worried it wouldn't live up to the hype, BUT IT DID. This book what truly everything I crave in contemporary romance novels, THANK YOU LYSSA!
First of all, I really liked Thea and Gavin. They were both characters that had so much depth to them, and I loved the way the author developed them throughout the story. However, I will say Thea did irritate me a little bit at times, but I overall liked her character.
The relationship between Thea and Gavin felt so real and all their ups and down seemed so realistic. I loved watching them rebuilding their relationship and truly get to know each other. Thea did not easily give into Gavin and Gavin never gave up trying to mend their relationship. The tug and pull of their relationship never felt overly dramatic or drawn out, which it easily could have.
I can't write a review about this book without mentioning THE BOOK CLUB. The book club was such a charming and memorable element of this book. I loved absolutely everything about it and I cannot wait to get future books about the other members of the book club.
Overall, this was a fantastic contemporary romance! If you haven't read this book yet, THEN PLEASE READ IT!...more
This is such a hard book to review because I have a lot of mixed feelings.
I really liked the plot of this book and I found the story to be quite 2.5?
This is such a hard book to review because I have a lot of mixed feelings.
I really liked the plot of this book and I found the story to be quite addicting! I thought the plot was unique and quite refreshing in the world of contemporary romances!
At first, I wasn't sure if I was going to like the main character. Ava seemed self-absorbed and completely materialistic. However, as the book progressed, I really started to appreciate Ava. I liked that there was more to her than what met the eye and she had a lot of depth to her. I also LOVED her relationship with her best friend and how prevalent it was throughout the story.
The biggest gripe I had with this book was the male character, Caleb. He was problematic on so many levels. I honestly couldn't find anything likable about him besides the fact he was hot...I guess? I honestly was rooting for him to not end up with Ava, because I really couldn't stand him. He not only did questionable things, he also said some things that made me pause and think "wait...no...he did not just say that...did he?!". Sure, he had physical chemistry with Ava and they had some moments of good banter, but I just couldn't fully support the romance.
This book had great potential, but fell short all because of the awful taste Caleb put in my mouth. If he would have been written differently, I know I would have absolutely loved this book....more

I really reaaaally wanted to love this. The plot sounded right up my alley, and I was SO FREAKING EXCITED to dig into this book. However, it just felt flat for me.
My least favorite thing about this book was the characters. I felt like they had no depth and I couldn't form any connection to them whatsoever. I didn't HATE them by any means, but I felt like they were just...there. I also just couldn't really feel the romantic connection between the characters either.
There were some moments of feminist badassery from Rhiannon, which were fantastic, but they still weren't enough to make me fully connect or love her character. I also just felt like Samson was TOO PERFECT, which made him feel like he almost had no personality.
I appreciated the overall plot of this book, which was so unique and refreshing, but I just couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to due to the characters. I just wanted to skim this book, to be completely honest....more

Daxton and Kailyn had an interesting enemies to lovers type relationship and I thought the author did a nice job of explaining it. That being said, I would have liked for their "enemies" relationship to have been shown a bit more as it was resolved pretty quickly. However, I understood why the author wanted to move past it and focus on other plot lines. I thought their romance was well paced and they had some great chemistry! The author did a great job at making Daxton and Kailyn's relationship feel realistic and super cute.
There was a lot more drama in this book than I was expecting. Most of the drama helped add some interesting plot points to the book and helped develop the depth of the characters and their relationships. However, there was some drama that felt quite unnecessary in my opinion. The main drama I didn't care for was the lawsuit with the aunt. I honestly thought it made the book drag to a point where I was SUPER tempted to skim read or skip some chapters. I wish the author could have focused on other drama or plot lines, which would have made the book more interesting.
Overall, this was a quick and adorable read! I would recommend it if you are in the mood for a short but sweet book!...more
