One Shot and Second Chance is the first two books that I've read by B.J. Harvey and I'm convinced more than ever that she knows how to write those angsty novels with ease! I found them to be quick and engaging reads with just the right amount angst and plenty of romance. B.J Harvey will definitely be my go-to when I'm in the mood for angsty AF reads!
What a read this turned out to be! I was so eager to read Gaby's story as soon as One Shot ended. The synopsis just leaves you burning for more and as soon as you jump into the book, that prologue just pulls all the punches...it'll definitely leave you yelling, "why would you start the book like that?!". It killed me to have that glimpse of what was to come since you'll be thrown back several months earlier when Bruno and Gaby become hyper-aware of each other at work.
Both of these characters were just so easy to fall in love with. Both harboring some scars from previous relationships, it's tough for the both of them to move forward, but it's evident that closure from the past is necessary before they can completely commit to each other. Despite her emotional scars, I loved Gaby so much! She's so damn feisty and someone everyone can relate to, but I've never seen an armor so strong and hers is made of steel. She lets Bruno in, but there's still a huge part of her that she's holding back from him. Mainly the big secret she's been keeping from him.
Bruno, this man that I just loved so much! The whole, it's the quiet ones you have to watch for is so true with him. A man that knows what he wants, has zero time for games and will go after it (repeatedly). He's so intuitive and can read Gaby like a book, and his patience was something to be admired. Not going to lie, my favorite scenes when these two were alone together, just his words alone are so darn sexy and steamy!
From the beginning, you'll be waiting for that major fallout and how they'll get through that. This was such a solid read from beginning to end, absolutely can't wait for the next one in this series!...more
OH.MY.GOSH! I have so much love for this series, it's ridiculous. I could definitely do without the cliffhanger endings (the wait isn't long people, you can do it!), but we just have one more book to go until we finally reach the end of this crazy vampire world with blood escorts and the elite. Pretty darn political if you ask me. Just like when you finished Blood Type, you'll be hungry and waiting once you reach the end. I'm such a fan of this new take with one of my favorite paranormal beings to read about; vampires! And Beckham is still one that you'll absolutely fall in love with!
Reyna! I love her character so much, she has come so far since day one in Blood Type. Gone is the naive woman and someone new to be admired rises. She's definitely a much stronger character this time because of what she had to endure when she was captured and tortured. And with just accepting her new reality and the craziness of the world she lives in. Reyna was truly knocked down physically and mentally in this one, you'll be wondering how she'll make it out alive. But in the end, I felt like she was much stronger. Her eagerness to be reunited with not only her brothers, but essentially the man she came to love, Beckham. And also the fact the RIGHT thing needs to be done!
The drama and angst are all there in this one, which will really pull out the emotions out of you especially when it comes to a couple of characters you absolutely despise. I'd say one of them is completely unnecessary, but that's just me ;-) However, it was just right amount I could deal with, without getting too irritated by it all.
It's a slow start, but once things really start to pick up, you'll have quite the page-turner on your hands. I was constantly hungry for more and now I'm so damn eager for the conclusion! Gimme, gimme, gimme! Such a solid read from K.A. Linde and a great addition to this series. Absolutely can't wait for Blood Cure!...more
Oh wow, what a read this one turned out to be. This was a first read from Kimberly Kincaid and it definitely won't be my last! Down Deep has totally rekindled my love for romance with a bit of suspense in them. There's nothing like getting your heart rate going as you go from page to page, waiting to see what happens next.
It has been so long since I've had a read like this in my hand. Not only do we get the growing story between Ian and Kennedy, but also the hunt for the psycho and sick arsonist trying to keep the whole town blazing. And those two elements is what truly had me hooked in Down Deep. Being the true romantic that I am, I was hoping to see more of that. Even though there was a few ever so steamy scenes between the two of the tthem, trying to take down the arsonist was the forefront of this story.
With Ian's military background and the understanding of loss, he has some mental wounds that he hasn't quite healed yet. And it's his drive as a firefighter to make sure all of his guys come out when they storm a fire blazing building. To never have to relive a moment like that again. With his constant need to protect everything and everyone he cares about, I loved that he didn't treat Kennedy like a damsel in distress. Her experience of growing up in the rough part of town, she is more than capable of handling herself.
Down Deep was such a page-turner, it's pretty easy to consume in just one sitting. There's always something happening and it intrigues you to keep reading until the end. Even though I yearn for more of the relationship development, it was still a solid read! This definitely won't be the last time I read from this author....more
I have been gravitating towards duets this year and I was totally on board with this one as soon as I read the synopsis. With my husband in the military, I'll take on a military romance here and there. I love reading about the couples relationships and the trials and tribulations they constantly face.
As I started this one, we get the beginnings of a new relationship. With Colby always having his dreams set in being a fighter pilot, he could never afford any sort of distractions. His life since he left home after high school has been a routine. Doing everything the same, everyday until he finally got to his goal.
But then the one time he gives in and decides to live a little and steer away from his rigid routine, Rory completely knocks him on his ass. I liked that he endlessly tried to stay away for her, but Rory's persistence was something to be admired.
As to be expected, the thing I hate about duets is how the book ends. It's always on a cliffhanger and usually I'm feeling all the feels and teetering on the edge of anxiety because I just need to know what happens. For majority of the book, we see these two blazing through the honeymoon stage of their relationship. Colby's walls are breaking down and he's opening up about his rough life growing up especially after losing his dad. We witness Rory's uttermost devotion and dedication to her brother that is autistic. You'll be wondering when that other shoe will drop.
It's no surprise what Colby will do once he graduates from the Air Force Academy, already accepted into dream. There's that gray cloud looming over them because they will both need to decide what is to happen with their future.
All I have to say is that around half way through the book, I had a very strong feeling about what was going to happen. And it left me feeling not so great... especially as I was nearing the end. And then it finally happened as I assumed and I was left pretty darn angry...
If only I could go into more details, but this is something you'll have to read and find out. As angry as I am about the cliffhanger, I'm 100% nervous about the conclusion book. I feel like that will be the one where we dive deeper into all the emotions we didn't quite experience in this one. It'll be a dark and angsty road to get through and hearts will be broken over and over again. How can any happiness come out of this?!
I wanted to love this, but it's steering into something that I don't usually read. And I have no idea how I'm going to handle this. The writing was flawless and everything flowed so perfectly. I'm not sure if my heart will be able to handle the conclusion....more
The one thing I love about 1001 Dark Nights is discovering new authors and series to read! Surrender was a new to me author and I am a complete fan! I have zero idea how I've never read any of her books before, but as soon as I finished, I went ahead and bought the first book in this series. And I can't wait to start learning about this interesting world.
I'd say this was a great introduction to this series, there are so much mystery and suspense that'll keep you intrigued the entire time. I'm not entirely sure what role Marco and Felicity play in this series, but I quickly became a fan of the both of them by the end of Surrender. So I can't wait to read more about them in the House of Sin series.
I know this was a novella, but just by reading this, you'll be begging for so much more and I hope all of that will get appeased once I read this series. Felicity and Marco are so hot together and probably my favorite scene was when they first meet, talk about such fire scoring between the both of them. They're such a great pair and work so well together, even when both have their own thing going on.
Naughton did a fantastic job with this novella, suspenseful and downright sexy! I can't wait to dive into the House of Sin series!...more
I still can't believe that I've read a Natasha Madison soooo late in the game, I've completely fell in love with her books as soon as I read the Something So series. And this series has easily become one of my newest favorites with constantly pulling out the feels and just enough angst to keep you hungry for more. I was so curious to see what kind of story would unfold between Crystal and Gabe. Crystal has been holding onto a painful secret that could possibly diminish any chance of finding love, all while Gabe is dealing with a broken love and being left at the altar.
I absolutely loved how protective and fierce she was with her loved ones especially Hailey (which her story is told in the first book of this series ... and I obviously need to read it). With Hailey dealing with a heartbreaking story of her own and needing to move away and start a new. Crystal decides to go with her, to the countryside and new people. And where her story with Gabe begins.
With Crystal being the super nurse extraordinaire and Gabe being the doctor that she works alongside with. It's just a recipe for all sorts of banter and instant attraction. However, meeting at the medical clinic wasn't actually the first time they've met. A one night stand where names weren't exchanged is something neither one could forget. It'll be interesting to see how long these two will be able to fight the pull.
The title of this book is so darn fitting, love was obviously something that they weren't looking for, but I loved how easy it was for both of them to fall for each other. I loved watching it unfold as you get deeper and deeper into their story. It felt so natural and it was so clear that they were meant to be together.
Unexpected Love Story pulled every emotion possible out of me. I was completely hooked and devoured every word. I am such a fan of Natasha Madison and I need to read this series from the beginning. Plus I'm already anticipating the next book in this series, Broken Love Story.
I've been getting a kick out of reading about the world of dragons! They've definitely become a new fave to read about in the shapeshifter world. Betrothed to a Dragon was a great starting point for the Lick of Fire series and after devouring this one, I'm beyond eager for the next couple!
This was a first time read from Kara Lockharte and I'm hooked on her words. I love the characters dialogue, it was relatable and definitely the way I talk among friends when we're all hanging out.
I was so fascinated by the world building especially since it's so new to me. This will be the second dragon series that I've read and I love noting the differences between the two. There's definitely some new elements and other out of this world characters that I'm dying to learn about like the shen.
I got the sense that we'll still have plenty to learn about Hunter and Sophie especially since she's still adapting to everything she's learn in such a short amount of time.
Brava, Kara and absolutely can't wait to read more about these dragons!...more
Well this was just a pleasant read. I’ll be honest and say that I haven’t read all of Stylo Fantôme’s books *gasp*, but not once did I feel confused or lost while reading this. If anything, it got me excited for the books that I have yet read!
You’re thinking “what about spoilers?! “. Well I am that unicorn that just loves spoilers, yep, I’m at that person. But don’t worry, I would never write a spoiler in a review, that’s just going against reviewer code.
The Twin Estates is a series that I’m familiar with the most because those are the only books I’ve read from her. And it was quite a treat to get that extra chapter, I never realized how much I missed the trio together… Well the trio in a much positive and happy light *wink*
Even if you didn’t read all of her books, it was still something I absolutely loved reading. It made me hungry to read more of her work that I enjoy so much. ...more
This was a first time read for Daisy Prescott and I found myself rather enjoying this quick read. It can be read as a standalone, but I have a feeling that reading the previous books in this series will give you better insight about the rest of the supporting characters. With a writing that flows effortlessly and with likable characters, it won't be the last time I'll read something from Prescott.
I was a little surprised and set back (a little) by the love triangle aspect that seemed to happen. But once you dive more into the story, you'll quickly figure out where everyone's emotions are at. We have the heroine, Mae, who I was a bit iffy about at first, there was a brief moment of her being a bit quick to judge and shallow. I definitely felt for her as she was the only single gal among all the couples, it's tough being the odd one out despite how happy you are for everyone. With her cousin's wedding on the horizon, her mother and the mother of her high school fling are in cahoots to get their children be dates to the wedding. With Landon being the cocky womanizing man that he is, he tends to have one thing on his mind and sees Mae as a challenge. And Mae being cornered, she hesitantly agrees to be his date to appease their mothers.
And that brought big brother Aiden into the picture, which is the man everyone will be rooting for. The better brother, the actual decent human being who seems to have always had a little thing for Mae, but it didn't manifold into more until he sees her again. And it's pretty evident that the attraction is strong between Mae and Aiden.
There we have a little sibling rivalry when only one truly wants to be with her for the right reasons.
Sooo, yes there are three characters involved, but it's so very clear from the beginning what will happen. Landon was just such an unlikeable character in this one and he definitely didn't have me rooting for him. I was a bit taken aback with Mae as she would easily believe some of the things he'd say about his brother Aiden, which were absolutely false. You can definitely sense the little bit of hostility between Landon and Aiden.
I was hoping for a bit more romance in this one, but it didn't stop me from enjoying this light read. Prepare yourself to completely swoon over Aiden!
If you're looking for a light read with zero angst, give this one a go! Can't wait to read the rest of this series....more
After reading Wild Card, I realized that I need to make a summer reads list because this one would definitely be on it. I'm quite the fan of the "fake relationship" trope, they tend to be full of some of the most hilarious moments, which this was very fitting for this rom-com.
I can't believe this was my first time read for Lila Monroe and sticking to my habit of reading books in a series out of order, I'm definitely going to go back and read the rest of this series!
This was just the easy read that I needed, I'd recommend it right after an emotional angsty read. There were so many funny moments in this book and the scenarios that Olivia ends up are downright crazy like nothing I could ever imagine. But no one better than Ryan to always bail her out!
Plenty of hilarious moments, steamy upon steamy scenes and you got yourself a solid rom-com. Absolutely loved this read and definitely see myself re-reading this one!...more
I want to sew this book into a quilt and just snuggle with it forever! I can’t say I’ve read many books about dogs, but this one is my top favorite. It’ll emit all the feels people have for those loveable and furry puppers. Dogs are truly the best companions and I loved the journey that Hazel and Atticus go on together.
Gosh, this book was everything that I wanted it to be. It was still a love story, but not the kind of love that we oh so enjoy reading in our beloved romances. It’s about self-love and that was the journey that Hazel needed to go on. And it wouldn’t have happened if she didn’t stumble upon Atticus, the sweetest Bernese Mountain Dog. The sweetest pupper that she rescued and nearly didn’t want, but he was quick to steal her heart completely.
Like everyone else in the world, I wish I could know what goes through a dogs mind. It would definitely help me understand my dog better! I love that Bennett decided to make this a dual POV with not only Hazel, but the ever so loveable yet crazy dog, Atticus. It was everything that I imagined what a dog would think in the many stages of its life. Even those very naughty moments, where we want to be mad at them, but one look at their scruff faces, how can you resist?! I never can, it’s nearly impossible to mad at your dog!
Having Atticus in her life brought the two men that would essentially become her second dad’s, Oley and Bernard. I loved that all of them had personal stuff to get through and essentially they all on this journey together. Hazel has made many mistakes in her life, people to apologize to, to move on from, to start a new. Along with making a better life for herself, she wanted the same for the people that surrounded her.
Atticus is a riot and so darn intuitive. I loved how protective he was of Hazel and knowing who she should and shouldn’t stay away from. Those were definitely some hilarious moments that everyone will love.
I seriously can’t get enough of this book, it was truly EVERYTHING! And I want more. I enjoyed reading Hazel’s fulfilling story towards self-love. Her ever-growing relationship with Bernard and Oley. I can’t recommend this book enough, it’s definitely a story that everyone can appreciate and love. So cuddle up close with furry child and give them all the love they deserve.
P.S. What happened to Scout?! Or did I miss that....more
Man, don't you just love Harper Sloan's alpha characters?! I've been a fan of her work since the Security Corps series and I was so excited when she announced her newest series, Hearts of Vegas. And first up in this series is Ari and Thorn! Uhhhh major points for the hottest hero and heroine names, Harper! They're definitely ones that I've yet to see in this romance world and I'm completely in love with it.
I have to say that after reading the synopsis and then finishing this book, it really didn't give anything away at all and it kept me guessing the entire time. Two characters with painful pasts, meeting on chance in a club, where not a single word was exchanged, but lustful eyes for one another. In a way, fate brought them together when Thorn is desperately in need to get rid of an extensive purse collection inherited from his grandmother, so he heads to Ari's consignment shop to start the process.
With Thorn's collection amounting to millions of dollar and throwing in a little deal that will hopefully end up with her in his bed, Ari finds it necessary to draw up a contract to keep things completely clear between them. With the undeniable attraction between them, Ari makes it known that she doesn't just want him for his money. And Thorn has the idea that he can make her beg in less than 30 seconds. And boy let me tell you, the scene where he tries to get her to beg is probably my absolute favorite. It not only gave a little insight into what Thorn use to do in his younger days, it's soooo damn hot. Two words: Magic Mike, anyone?! Which made it nearly impossible for Ari to resist.
I genuinely liked their story, Ari and Thorn's pain is darn heartbreaking, but I loved Thorn's patience with Ari as she needed time to completely open herself up to him. Her wounds ran deep and it would be a while until she was fully healed. Being the alpha that he is, I loved his ferocity towards protecting not only Ari, but her best friend Piper. Anyone close to Ari was an automatic in with his protection.
The surprising element in this story was the third POV that'll keep you guessing on who it actually is. My guess probably changed like three times and I was completely shocked when it was revealed in the end. I'll admit, it confused me a bit and wondered if it was necessary. But it still kept me interested to know more. Let's just say you'll be introduced to the next two books to come in this series, which will leave you wanting more.
It's been a while since I've read a good book with an even better alpha, but Harper Sloan writes them so well, we really shouldn't be surprised. The pacing was slow at times and around 60%, it almost felt like Ari and Thorn's story came full circle, which kept me wondering what was going to happen next or if the other shoe was going to drop. However, even though this was a contemporary read, I liked that there was a bit of mystery and suspense thrown in.
I gotta say that I'm completely invested in this series, by the end, you'll know whose story is up next and you'll be impatiently waiting for it. If you love Sloan's alpha male characters, you'll definitely love this one. Unconscious Hearts is story about two being perfectly matched who suffer from painful pasts and taking a journey together towards healing....more
What an absolute sweet read! I’ve read the second book in this series and remember how hilarious the heroines were. And Josey was just that in her chatty and quirky way. She’s a friend that I would just love to have.
Something that I need to do ASAP is read one of L.H. Cosway’s books. I’m a huge of fan of Penny Reid’s work, so it was easy to pick out her awesome humor.
Josey! To read a book with such a relatable and solid heroine. She’s completely honest and I love her constant chatter. And a woman who is 100% comfortable with her sexuality and knows exactly what she wants. Bravo, we all need a Josey in our lives.
William was such a unique character to me. I can’t say that I’ve read a romantic comedy with the added topic of voyeurism. Everyone has their preferences and I pass no judgment whatsoever. I, so, so, so appreciated that Reid and Cosway made it known that it was all concensual (like it should be) between all parties involved. But whether people agreed with it or not, it’s not everyone’s preferences.
Along with Josey, I was completely in love with William. Truly a stand up dude and his personal take on relationships and porn (yes, you read that right) was so damn refreshing and honest.
Everything about these two made them so relatable. With Joey’s hilarious inner dialogue and banter between the both of them, it brings you plenty of laughs. And more of those mushy feels that everyone loves so much.
I forever love this writing duo and I hope they have more books planned for the future! It’s been a while where I’ve read a solid friends with benefits trope that didn’t seem redundant. And this one just puts all others to shame.
P. S. There is no voyeurism going on in this book. It was the hero’s preference, but no longer does it....more
Oh .. My ... Lanta! What a hot and completely engaging read this one turned out to be. I was supposed to read this book earlier in June, but obviously, I failed. I don't normally read taboo books, but when I do, I'm quite selective about this one. However, age gaps are the one taboo topics that I don't mind reading about. To me, they're not really a big deal. But when it's your dad's best friend, there's bound to be trouble. I never expected to find myself completely hooked with Kandy and Cane's story, but Williams does a phenomenal job with keeping her readers constantly wanting more. Of course, I'm a little bummed out this wasn't standalone, but we get more Cane, so you definitely won't see me complaining about that.
Where do I even begin with my review!? The one character who surprised me the most and found myself loving so much was Kandy. I was totally expecting this angsty, immature teenager, but she was definitely bordering the line with being this young woman that I didn't find immature at all. Having Cane in her life since she was a child, she always had this crush on him that just grew into something so much more as she got older. The chemistry is definitely there between these two and now that's she almost 19 and soon to be leaving for college, there's no one more that she wants than Cane. Even if it's completely wrong and that he could lose his best friend if Kandy's dad finds out. *dun dun dunnnn* the suspense will literally be killing you!
No matter how hard he tries or even tries to bring another woman into the mix to hopefully distract him, nothing works. Kandy is everywhere and she has easily become someone he can't escape from. Cane turned out to be quite the multi-layered man that I had so many questions about especially dealing with his past. And more of how he became the man that he is today. But holy sheesh, these two are absolutely hot together, there's no denying that one bit. The steamiest scenes for days!
Not only is the storyline flawless and just pure brilliance, Kandy and Cane are strong and well-developed characters, which made this book extremely easy to devour. I am so invested in these two and I'm glad the next one will be released fairly soon. After that cliffhanger ending, I'm sooo curious to see where the next book will take us! I love this series so much and Shanora, you have just gained a new fan!...more
Now I've been a fan of Mimi's books since her King trilogy, those are constant re-reads of mine. And for the life of me, I have no idea why I fell into this series so late! Whenever I read one of her books, I literally just sit there and ponder about how the heck she comes up with this stuff?! Like, this story went in a completely different direction than I originally thought, but I loved every bit of it!
One of my absolute favorite things in this book was the personal journey that Sydney goes on. She was quiet and meek, never really standing up for herself, but the entire time you know that she has so much to stay. She's an absolutely beautiful and smart woman, and I wholly appreciated that Nick Brooks, the a-hole boss, forces her to leave her shy tendencies at bay. And brings forth the fierce woman that she truly is. In Nick's case, one not to be trifled with.
Once she was able to finally start speaking up for herself, it brought so many hilarious moments when it came to Nick, her a-hole boss. But no matter what, he always seemed to know what she was up to. Bit of a mystery there, eh?
This was an awesome enemies to lovers story. Sparks and tension were flying from the very beginning, but I loved witnessing it unfold little by little. You'll enjoy watching Nick's demeanor change around Sydney because he can't be an a-hole forever especially when it comes to Sydney.
I'm forever a fan of Mimi's work, her stories are unique and 100% entertaining! Now I need to go back and read the rest of this series!...more
This series just keeps getting better and better with every new book that comes out granted there's only two, but still, it's true. I think Gabe and Nikki's story just might be my favorite in this series so far and I am sooooo ready for Devlin's story because that will definitely an awesome one. He is the brother I'm so curious about the more we dive into the de Vincent men, OK, getting off track.
Moonlight Seduction is just one of those books you can read in one sitting, even though it was a bit longer than I expected it to be (not complaining though)! Every page is so darn alluring and intriguing, everything will be you drawing in you from the very beginning. Not just the strong connection that Gabe and Nikki share, and have shared for several years, but the heart-hammering suspense and mystery. I have to admit that the de Vincent Estate scares the crap out of me, too many crazy things have happened (still happening) in that mansion. The stories that come about that mansion keeps stacking up with every book in this series. The whole "skeletons in the closet" has a new meaning when it comes to the de Vincent family and the more that's revealed, it sheds a different light on them. One that shows they'd do anything for family ... family always comes first to the de Vincent boys, so that's something you should remember when you're reading this series. And also, don't f*ck with them. PERIOD!
Nikki and Gabe are absolutely perfect together! Their chemistry is something that all romance books should have, it's sizzling hot no matter how hard they tried to fight it. Every time they're in the same room, you just want them to give in already. With the reputation the de Vincent men hold, I love seeing their softer side when it comes to love. It's obviously a rare sight with these men, but I'm just left awestruck with that side of them. It just shows the many layers of them and that there's so much more to them than what the rumors say.
The dialogue between Nikki and Gabe is everything! There's so much want between them that just gets you all kinds of excited. It's scorching hot. But besides all that, we have the suspense part to Moonlight Seduction and it will leave the hairs on the back of your neck standing up and checking to see if anyone's behind you. The one question I'm constantly asking myself when I read this series is "who is it?!". There are some shady things happening and left with no explanation, but when it is, I just want to know if I was right or not. It's pretty much a big game of Guess Who. I find it funny that I'll have all these questions, while some get answered, others don't, but I'm sure they will be when Devlin's book comes out.
Absolutely loved Moonlight Seduction and can't wait for the final book, Moonlight Scandals. We get the very little glimpse at the end that'll keep you wanting! Bravo, Jennifer, for yet another amazing series!...more
Awwww, John ... he's such a big softie! I'm pretty new to this series with only reading Evan's book and now John's, so I'd say my background knowledge Awwww, John ... he's such a big softie! I'm pretty new to this series with only reading Evan's book and now John's, so I'd say my background knowledge of him was very little. I just remember the scene where the cutest little baby showed up on his doorstep essentially gaining the new title of new dad. Since then, I've been waiting to get my hands on his story! This was such an endearing read and I enjoyed every single bit of it.
I loved that we got to witness two sides of John. He's dedicated to his B&B making sure his guests are happy and that keeps him plenty busy. And then we see him taking the role of father so easily especially after the circumstances of how he gained beautiful little Maize. It has definitely been a while since I've read a good single father/nanny romance, they tend to be a bit corny, but I was all about John and Mila's story. The other side of John that I enjoyed seeing was his much softer one, not just as a father, but also when it came to his devotion to Mila and seeing his flashbacks of when he was with Maize's mom. With his hard exterior and someone who takes his responsibilities seriously, I loved seeing his vulnerable side.
I've got to say, this book was a lot funnier than I expected it to be, which definitely made for a rather enjoyable read. After reading The Right Stud, I'm definitely a fan of this writing duo, so pleaseeeeeeee, give us more books! It was a funny and sweet read, a great summer beach read to add to your list.
Ashton wants nothing more than to fix up her grandmother's home in hopes of turning it into a bed & breakfast. Even though her baking skills are something to be envious of, her home renovation skills are the complete opposite. And Jax Roland is just the guy she needs to uh ... help fix up her home ;-)
Once she gets the email she's been waiting for and when he comes knocking on her door. She quickly realizes that this wasn't their first time meeting. The night before, in hopes of finding someone to help her forget about her cheating ex, it was nearly a fail until she bumps into a mystery man who she just happens to share a kiss with that'll forever be planted in her mind. After telling her he needed to run a quick errand, he asked her to wait (what an idiot he was, if you ask me). But after a couple of hours go by, he's nowhere to be found.
Jax is quite famous in the YouTube world for his home improvement show. Ashton's beach home renovation is just the project he needs to land a show on HGTV. Seeing Ashton was definitely something he never expected and he's never felt more regret after he recognizes her from the night before. He wants nothing more than to explain himself and get back into her good graces. Even though this project is something he has always wanted, seeing Ashton again, he's definitely got his eye on something more.
I loved watching these two tiptoe around their instant chemistry and trying so hard. And who knew it would be a family of skunks to finally bring these two together. You can only fight attraction for so long.
Sooo many funny moments in this one, not only with their banter but the ever so witty Mrs. C and we can't forget the bird that you should never let around your kids. This was just the romcom that I needed and I was hooked the entire time. Add The Right Stud to your summer reads and prepare to laugh your a** off!...more
Let me just start with that this book was NOTHING that I expected it to be. There was just a lot going on and soooooo much shade being thrown around. After reading some of the reviews, I gotta say that I definitely enjoyed this one. I was expecting a second chance romance, which I absolutely love, but that as you delve more into the story, you learn that, that's not the case at all. It had elements of a love triangle, but it wasn't really that either. I have a feeling writing this review may come across very confusing because writing this without any spoilers seems impossible, but I'll do my best.
Guess what, everyone? Ian has a sister, for all you The Matchmaker's Playbook fans out there. And her name is Blaire and one of the owners to Liars, Inc. , where their job is to catch cheaters in the act and reveal them, publicly ... on the dreaded Facebook. This kind of business is not my cup of tea, but to each their own. Looking at their potential clients, one she wasn't expecting was her ex, now retired NFL player, the one that walked away without a second glance. The past comes storming back into her life bringing back all her insecurities and "what ifs". As she starts her "work", stumbling into his best friend, Colin, was something that she could definitely use to her advantage in more ways than one ;-) And he seems to be more than willing, I guess anything to stay in the presence of Blaire. Blaire has lost love to a man who loved football more and another to her best friend. Trust doesn't come to her easily, so who will be the one to gain it, completely?
And that about sums up this book as lightly as possible and I'm sure you're wondering if this is a love triangle. There were moments when I thought it was, but sorta is-ish? Shoot, even I'm a bit unsure. As far as other love triangle books go, this one is nothing like it.
Trusting men is something that Blaire struggles with a lot. With the ex who left to pursue his dream without a second thought and a cheating ex, can you blame her? To me, this book was truly about Blaire and getting over what she's been through in the past with her exes and discovering and diving into something new with someone else, Colin. Having to spy on Jessie (the ex/football player) really opened her eyes to his true self, parts of himself he rarely shows anyone. Jessie wasn't exactly my favorite person in this story, it's evident that once they see each other for the first time in years, it brings back a lot of things. And they can't help, but wonder. But I didn't hate Jessie, at least by the end I didn't, he really just married the wrong person for the wrong reasons and found himself in a really unhappy place. He's a people pleaser, making sure everyone else was happy except himself. Now he wants a divorce because the woman he married has turned into someone he no longer loves.
And we have Colin, the man you'll all adore! Once he met Blaire, it was game over and he'd do anything to spend time with her. Even teaming up with her as she tries to bust his friend for possibly cheating. Their little duo was the best and I loved their banter, it was hilarious. And you'll just be rooting for this duo from the very beginning. But Colin has some vulnerabilities of his own, he found love once and was never able to pursue another relationship since. But there was something about Blaire that wanted him to possibly try again.
So, we've got three characters weaving an unbelievably tangled web, I'm sure you can figure out how complicated this all seems. But I loved every bit of this story and the whole time I was just curious to see how it was going to end. There's definitely a happy ever after, maybe a little betrayal, thoughts going astray into territories that it should never go, and some punches were thrown. See, like I said, a tad bit messy and complicated, but still such a fun and sweet read in the end.
This was definitely some way to write a story, Rachel and I loved it very much. It's pretty easy to guess who the next book will be about and I'm eagerly waiting for it! I've been seeing a lot of things about the fact that Blaire fell in love so quickly when she was dating Jessie. I make no judgments on how long it takes to fall in love with someone. I found my happily ever after in such a short time as well, so all I have to say is that you never know.
I've been on a roll with a lot of new to me authors. For some reason, I tend to gravitate towards stories with a rock star theme to it and I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but I just love reading them. I will admit though that the author's writing style is quite different and something to get used to, I had to change my mindset a bit on truly understanding Shane and Delaney's story. I'm still at the point where I'm deciding if it's a kind of writing style that I like or not. However, I still enjoyed this story even if it took some time for me to get through.
Besides the fact that it's a rockstar read, we can throw in one of my favorite tropes; fake relationship. It's a dual POV, which I always love because I'm a sucker for wanting to know what's going on in each other's head. But you'll find yourself spending a lot of time up there, their inner turmoil, for most of the book.
These two both have a past that they're trying to escape from and it's not until they find each other that they try to work through it and get past it all. As the story progresses, we already see their instant attraction towards each other grow and with that walls are coming down. More for Shane than Delaney.
I truly loved watching their walls come down and seeing their relationship becoming something so much more. I was getting a bit nervous to see how the story would unfold because you can tell that Delaney is really holding back. The assumption is there and that it definitely won't end well.
All around, I'd say it was a solid and enjoyable read for me. It's high with the drama and angst, so if that's not your thing, maybe steer clear. The writing style is something to get used to, but I'm already invested in this series and totally looking forward to the next book ... which once I get through some of my reading for the book, I'll be diving into Rock Legend....more
Yes! A new series to fall in love with! It has been quite some time since I have dove into a Jennifer Probst book especially since her Marriage to a Billionaire series, which I absolutely love. The Start of Something Good is such a sweet read that all romance lovers will simply adore.
I don't mind the whole enemies-to-lovers trope especially when you have the two most stubborn characters ever. But seriously these two were just off to a rough start from when they first met. As entertaining as the banter was, you'll just be waiting for their heated debates to turn into something more.
Mia was a character that I appreciated so much. Having her own PR company and knowing first hand how someone's life can be turned upside down in the public eye. I loved the fact that she didn't take on just any client, they had to have the same ideals as her. And her dedication to her job is something to admire especially when she ends up accompanying her clients daughter to the countryside. Not sure I know many who would do that!
Ethan has demons of his own and after returning home long term after many years. He has no desire to socialize with his town anytime soon and rather stick to renovating his bungalow and being a bit of a recluse. With Mia's and her clients daughter, Chloe, heading there, it looks like avoiding people isn't something in store for Ethan.
I truly adored Ethan and Mia, their banter was so heated and extremely entertaining. It just built everything up until they both finally give in.
I loved seeing Ethans's relationship with the horses he took care of. He didn't gain nickname the "horse whisperer" for no reason. Those scenes were probably some of my favorites since for a guy with so many demons, he found solace with his horses.
I appreciated that even though Mia was a city girl, true and true. It didn't come off like she couldn't deal with change, Probst didn't paint her as this damsel in distress and not able to fend for herself in a new environment.
I thought the characters and plot were great, I just wish we got a bit more of an epilogue. But hopefully that means we'll see more of Ethan and Mia in the books to come.
The one thing that didn't quite fit in my opinion was Chloe's age. She was 19 years old, but her maturity level wasn't there for that age. I think it would have been fitting if she was 16 years old.
Overall, absolutely enjoyed this gem of a story and look forward to reading the rest in this series. And it has motivated me to do a re-read of some of her previous books that I love so much! ...more

And it wasn't too long afteDevney's I remember when Devney's Jamison Valley series ended, I was just so unbelievably sad to say farewell to a series that I loved so much. And it wasn't too long after that she released a standalone, The Birthday List, but I was hungry for another series and just more characters to fall in love with. Enter, Tattered, the first book in the Lark Cove series. Devney Perry is one of those authors that I'd read anything that she writes, if she ever has the urge to dive into other sub-genres in romance, I am 100% all for it. But true and true, she's an absolute amazing contemporary romance author. If you've never picked up any of her books ... well, you should. Don't know where to start? You really can't go wrong with any of her books!
Tattered has quickly become my newest fave of her work. With a strong and independent heroine that is Thea, what's not to love. And throw in the trope that I enjoy quite a bit, a surprise pregnancy. As usual, word for word, Perry has that gift of keeping her readers completely enthralled 'til the very end. The one thing about books that have the surprise pregnancy element, it can be handled horribly and become quite the drama fest. I have no idea how Devney did it, but she created two amazing characters, who quickly fell into their role flawlessly. I'll admit that it took me some time to come around to Logan, but you can't blame a man for just learning he has a daughter after six years. Just put yourself in his shoes for a bit, a man just taking a business trip and then struck with the surprising news. Thea had years to adjust to her new life of being a mom and an amazing one, might I add. Logan had right in that instance to come to terms with it.
