This is the most timely novel of hers that I've read thus far. It was an excellent history lesson brought to life about the relationship between Russia and Ukraine. As one would expect, she has left me wanting more novels about Ukraine. No pressure on the author, but...when can we expect another novel? Highly recommend....more

This is a sweet book about a girl anxious about the first day of kindergarten. This book is great for all the littles in our lives who are both curious and nervous about beginning school, after school extra-curriculars, or meeting new people. Often times the fear of the unknown is really the problem and this book (with its gorgeous illustrations) gives kids a glimpse into what a typical school day looks like. And a bit of sillyness thrown in!
I give this a huge "thumbs up!" Unless I was Mrs. Muddle, then I'd give this book an enormous "toes up!" ...more

She moved prior to the country falling, as did all of her extended family who are in the U.K. Sadia's immediate family moves to Winnipeg. We follow her as she navigates middle school, basketball, and keeping her faith. The other two characters are both Muslim girls; Mariam from Egypt and Amira from Syria. Mariam arrived in Winnipeg during the Arab spring Amira is a refugee and the books deals with those different experiences as newcomers to Canada. It is really well written and honestly when it was done, I wanted a sequel. Oh yeah, I cried both happy tears and sad tears....more
