For many Americans, January 20, 2021 was like the sun coming out after a long and tumultuous storm, rays peeking out from behind dark clouds. "Is this what hope feels like?" I thought while watching the inauguration, so battered and emotionally bereft after the last four years that the feeling felt foreign.
"The hill we climb, if only we dare it: Because being American is more than a pride we inherit -- It's the past we step into, and how we repair it."
Amanda Gorman's inaugural poem is the reason for that hope, a lightning rod for picking ourselves back up and getting back to work. For the first time in a long time, I felt hope. But also a bit of pride for the country and what it could be if we continue to fight for all. Because there is work to be done and it is never finished.
The poem is beautiful and inspiring, and I'm happy to have a text copy (and to support the amazing poet). The bright yellow of the cover design recalls Amanda's outfit at the inauguration; yellow is the color for hope and bright, new beginnings. I preordered a hardcover of this book to have on my bookshelf forever, and I just couldn't say no to the audiobook to read along with Amanda Gorman. I definitely recommend the commemorative edition of The Hill We Climb", both the hardcover and audiobook format.

While this isn't the kind of book I'd normally pick up, this is exactly the kind of book I want to read. (I am but an oxymoron.)
