I am a huge Zen fan, so there is a built in bias, that being said, the overall concept is very interesting. A NPC possibly gains player qualities and may just begin an adventure. Zen leaves the door open with this teaser intro, but I am looking forward to the series to see how this plays out....more

That being said, the story arc pulls you in and keeps you interested in overall outcome. Cabot Layne makes an amazing run from a bit player in earlier books to central figure in this series, Zen fills out his character nicely, from filling in his backstory to building Cabot into someone the readers root for....more

The book is a bit silly, in a fun way, and an enjoyable “Summer Read. The book changes perspectives from Rumpy, a pig, to one of her owners, Barley. The book entertains in its own way. There is some action, a bit of adventure, and much light humor. If you are looking for a frivolous piece of light-hearted fiction with a happy ending, feel free to jump in the water. If you are looking for hardcore action and real-life scenarios…this is not for you. Overall, it was enjoyable to read....more
“No Good Deed” is a great easy read, lots of action, good characters, and humor thrown in for good measure. Another reviewer stated that the book has a “pulp feel” which I agree with, which is an excellent additional positive about the book. Francis gets drawn into an adventure that pulls him from a dead end job that he is ambivalent about and into an adventure even beyond his imagination. It is definitely worth the time to read this book. I am looking forward to trying other books from the author....more

Some of the ideas have come to fruition, however many have not due to events that were unforeseen at the time. The fact that we are still very parochial in our view as a species is probably the most disheartening miss from the book. We still deny the equality of all humans and that we are related, but that is a conversation for another forum....more

There were things I liked **spoiler alert** I believe I came across the title of this book while reading another story, this was a library loan read. There were things I liked about the book. The short chapters make it an easy and quick read. The concept of a lady, Sam, leaving letters for her granddaughter to read is great…however…the letters themselves and the intertwined story was not a style that I normally read. There were gaps in the plot and at times the story seemed rushed. While the characters are supposed to be endearing, based on the style of the book, there were flaws in many of them to cause a disconnect with the reader. It is a good summer read for the beach or pool, but not one of Patterson’s top reads in my opinion....more
