Kat Heeey! I was just commenting on your Russian/English mix-match review.

I knooooow, Eliad Cohen! I'm forever indebted to you for pointing out the best music.;D And what a cutie he is. I just want to rub myself all over his chest.

Oh, if you'd like to join our buddy read..I'm sure with over 58 million copies sold, there must be a Russian version out there for this one? *hopeful eyes*

Rebecka (Old Russian, if I may.)

Already found it. Who can resist that many 1-star reviews?

message 4: by Kat (new)

Kat My point exactly. The 1 star anticipation is simply killing me.:)

Woop woop! We were thinking next week or the week after. Will that work for you?

message 5: by Rebecka (new)

Rebecka Both work for me!

message 6: by Elle Beasee (new)

Elle Beasee Thank god you have other redeeming factors, Lo-La otherwise I may have terminated this dub-con relationship by now.

message 7: by Blue (new)

Blue Rabella LOL - This sounds like it could be a masterpiece of ... something I have no words for...

You'd be wise to keep your make up artist close.

So are you game?:D

There's just no end to the blast from the past stream of rapey romances.;)

Perfect!

Kynthos-the-Archer (Kyn) One of my favourite author when I was a young lass.

That depends on what you'll do if I'll say no...

Kat Kynthos-the-Archer wrote: "One of my favourite author when I was a young lass."

Yeah?:D I'm so sad that I picked the wrong Harlequins when I was young. The dowdy ones from the 90's. Should've gone for the moldy, yellowed 70's stuff at my local library!

message 14: by M'rella (new)

M'rella Oh, Loe! This is a gem! @.@

Should I bring out my inner Loki to play?

I'll just pretend the heroine is a boy =)

Oh... wait! I am already ready Cethe with pretty much same boxes. Next time maybe :)

I'll poison your fish?

If you say no, I'll pick a Captive Prince scene without 'thrusts' to record. 0:-)

You are such a TEASE.

Also...scat!

Kynthos-the-Archer (Kyn) Scat! Lol

When I was reading this author from the library, her paperbacks are already and always moldy, yellowed with odd smell. Ugh. But I must say that books of this sorts distorts sex perception and it's always a let down when in real life it wasn't anything close like it. Ever.

message 18: by Anne (new)

Anne You're full of surprises.

message 19: by Angelica (new)

Angelica @Mammarella: Come on! We can do both Cethe and this. At least it'll be fun.

Come to think of the cover - is it on any of the bad covers list yet?

Cethe is fun. You can read Bride with Loe and Cethe with me =)

In a way, I should probably be glad that I didn't know these books existed when I was young, because I hear you; I'd have been so disappointed with my bf's. Now I just felt a vague sort of dissatisfaction, ha! Dominant, asshole-y, forceful exotic strangers are a LOT to live up to. ;p

Isn't that part of the appeal though? It'll be easier to visualize yourself in the position of the abducted and molested heroine. 0:-)

message 23: by Kat (new)

Kat Anne wrote: "You're full of surprises."

You can be, too!

You know you want to! La la la!

message 24: by Anne (new)

Anne Nice try. ;) I do like dysfunctional relationships in my books, but historical romance is not my thing.

... dunno. I was really into girls for a long time. I mean REALLY into girls. For a REALLY long time. So - that would be me kidnapping and abducting and molesting a heroine. I guess I can see the appeal....
but at this point in my life I would rather abduct and molest a young hero =) =) =) =)~~

Kynthos-the-Archer (Kyn) I am like Mammarella here. XD

I can't believe you just threatened my fish.

However... you know what I want for my birthday. CP chapters 19 and 19.5 from you and Jen Jen.

If I get what I want, I think it's fair to say I'll be putty in your hands. And you can threaten my fish as much as you like

*sigh*

Kat Angelica wrote: "I'm ready. Bring it on!! "

Sorry, sorry! Real life kicked my bum, and hard, but I'm all set now. Let's do this thing!

I'll nudge Rebecka and Jenna. And maybe I can convince Lo-Lo here as well.;)

I always forget to look at it the other way round, which sounds like way more fun. I think I'm going to try and put myself in the sheik's shoes while reading this book. *ahhhhh fresh virginal meat* :p

message 31: by Angelica (new)

Angelica It was my turn with real life. I'm good now. Did you start?

message 32: by Kat (new)

Kat Only page 36. Real life shit so I'm sluggish. It's promising though! XD

How about this?

"Oh God, what is this man going to do with me? Will I be raped brutally first?"

Brutal rape...isn't that a contradiction of some sort?

message 33: by Rebecka (new)

Rebecka I was going to say something like "I hope there's some rape or torture soon"! I'm not sure what page I'm on, but no one has been taken prisoner yet :( Also, the book is awful.

message 34: by Kat (new)

Kat The first pages with the various POVs that are only introduced to highlight the heroine's beauty in all her enthralling glory are a nuisance, but things are picking up now.

Page 38:

" Of course -they'd be going into the desert. What better place to rape a woman than the desert - where her screams could not be heard. And there seemed to be several men riding with them. How many rapes would she have to endure before they killed her?"

I'm loving these rhetorical questions. ^^

Angelica Loederkoningin wrote: "The first pages with the various POVs that are only introduced to highlight the heroine's beauty in all her enthralling glory are a nuisance, but things are picking up now...."

Remember it's Johanna Lindsey you're reading. Of course you'll be smacked in the face with the heroine's virtues.

Jenna Rebecka wrote: "I was going to say something like "I hope there's some rape or torture soon"! I'm not sure what page I'm on, but no one has been taken prisoner yet :( Also, the book is awful."

I'm with you. So bored and the writing is awful.

message 37: by Rebecka (new)

Rebecka There is hope, then! Starting on chapter 5 now. Is this one of her earlier or later... ehem... "works"?

message 38: by Angelica (new)

Angelica Rebecka wrote: "There is hope, then! Starting on chapter 5 now. Is this one of her earlier or later... ehem... "works"?"

LOL Is there a difference?

Haven't you ever heard of a gentle rape? *rolls eyes* Srsly, girl! LOL Anywho, that's an oxymoron.

Brutal rape is a pleonasm.

message 40: by M'rella (new)

M'rella "Real Life" is both... I think... *scratches head*

I'm just getting the impression this is actually worse, stylewise, than the previous books I've read by her.

The Russian translation doesn't say "How many rapes would she have to endure before they killed her?", but "How many times would they amuse themselves with her" :D And that is an euphemism!

Thank you! *tries to remember*

So a hard rod is a pleonasm? LOL.

message 47: by Kat (new)

Kat Rebecka wrote: "Also, does the original mention Philips "manly flesh" repeatedly?"

Hmm, I'll go look..I highlighted his fleshy business a few times for you:

"hardness between his legs" and "his naked desire" (which filled her with freight) are my favorites. I haven't come across "manly flesh".

message 48: by Kat (last edited Jun 28, 2014 02:34AM) (new)

Kat In general: HOLY SHIT, GUYS. HOW UTTERLY CRAPPY IS THIS BOOK?!! 0_o I'm beginning to think buddy reads that include the Katinka/Angelica combo are cursed.:p

This reads like satire. Why is the hero such a loser? There's nothing sheikish about him. Why is the plot a wonky implausible mess? Why does the goergouslyfullbreastedbeautifullyblond heroine give in like that? I mean, what the fuck, he touches your nipple and you beg for his naked desire to be rammed up your virginal passage, resulting in a pierced maidenhead and a fountain of blood. I'd excepted so much more disturbing WTF'ery.

I'm on page 63 of 257 BTW. Argh. Where are you guys?

message 49: by Rebecka (new)

Rebecka I've read 25% and IT NEVER GETS BETTER! All the other sad and pathetic harlequinish horrors I've read were actually amusing, whereas this is just painfully bad.

I liked the freight thing though

message 50: by Kat (new)

Kat It doesn't get better at all!

"Oh, Philip, take me."

&**%^%#$#^&*@$

Noooooo, gurl! I don't care that you're only 17 and blond. You gotta cut off his nuts!
