Laura Diane
My husband won this book and wanted me to ask you, does he need to read some of her works before diving in or can he read it without any knowledge of her work? Sorry, that was a long sentence!

Diane S ☔ He never read The Lottery in school? I think if he know that her books were strange and eerie, A little like Hitchcock, but she uses poison and fires and stoning for her depths. Also the malevolent gazes and gossip of town people.Read the Wiki version of her life and he should be fine.

Diane S ☔ Oh and Hill House, that the house was haunted, strange houses are important in this book. Let me know how he likes it.

Laura We both just laughed bc that's the first thing I asked him? He checked out a collection of her stories. I gave him some background info. Thanks, that helps.

Julie Diane,
I just read my first Shirley Jackson this past week (The Haunting of Hill House) and I'm feeling like I need more Shirley! (More, more Shirley!). My GRs friend, Antoinette, just mentioned this one, and you're my only friend on here who has reviewed it, so thank you! It's a novel, instead of a bio? I'm so intrigued!

Diane S ☔ My favorite of hers is We Have Always Lived in the Castle, such a great Halloween read. I did like this one though, she is one of my favorites.

debbicat ☮~Traveling Sister Reading this now. Well. I’m listening to the audio from Hoopla. Castle is my favorite too.

Diane S ☔ Hope you like it, Debbie.

debbicat ☮~Traveling Sister It is pretty good, but I can see much of what you are saying. I am almost finished. It has become less interesting. Looking like a 3 star book for me. But I am not at the end yet. Maybe 4. It certainly has that macabre feel. Haunted household and family. Crazy! These ppl are crazy. LOL
