ERMAHGERD YOU'RE FINALLY READING THE SERIES. PLEASE LOVE IT.
I LOVE THIS SERIES, and the spin off ;]. It's kinda childish, but fun. And the mythology is mostly accurate, so that's a bonus.
YAY!!!! Applause for Khanh!!! I'm so glad you liked it! I haven't read it myself but I need too soon!!
(Hi Khanh!)I just read this for the first time recently and had so much fun with it. I couldn't find it in me to critique anything because it was such a delightful read.

TIGHTY WHITIES.
It doesn't replace HP for me, but it brings out all the happy feels =)
Nothing hurts. All is good with the world right now.
Yay, your review's here!
See, Annabeth really is the poster girl for coolness. And she has a decent name too, unlike certain other people (I will not mention Fates. Or House of Night. Or Alpha Goddess.)
But this just reminded me I have to wait till September for Blood of Olympus T-T
Krishna: I can't say I'm fond of her name, but I'm glad it's not something SPESHUL >_>
(I just downloaded Alpha Goddess, save me)
Jay: Thanks!
Really good review! And I must say, Percy is a Special Snowflake. And yet, he is so full of depth. It's very strange how he just makes you love him.
Natalie: damn straight!
Astoria: Harry Potter himself is a special snowflake. We all need those in our lives sometimes =)

I'm reading up on Indian mythology right now so I can properly critique the book :<
Yay! This has consistently been one of my favourite series these last few years, so I'm always glad to see others enjoy it, too. :D
I like the spin-off quite a bit as well, if you make it that far, but with one more book to go, I do think that as much as I've enjoyed the series, it's time for it to end - the quest-based adventure format is great fun, when done well, as these books absolutely are, but the same format over ten books inevitably starts feeling a bit repetitive eventually.
Still, out of nine books in the series so far, I've only given one of them three stars - repetitiveness aside, they do get a lot of things right. Adventure, Greek mythology, and teenagers, to name just the main ones...

If you do, be aware that the movie is ... not quite the same. (Prophecy? What prophecy?) Apparently they felt it would be too HP-like, so a lot got changed (and of course the characters aren't 11 but 16-17 or so).
I actually enjoyed the film for what it was, taken separately from the books - if you watch it as an "inspired by" and not "a faithful interpretation of", I don't think it's a bad YA action/adventure/fantasy film as such.
Also, AFAIK, Riordan had zero input into the films and doesn't want to talk about them (he claims he hasn't even watched them).
Dammit! It was too much to hope that the movie would deliver. More often than not, adaptations go drastically wrong. Look at my beloved Vampire Academy...
VA didn't get released here (and won't be, as far as I can tell) so I haven't had a chance to see it but the trailers I saw online did ... not look promising.
But yeah, movie adaptations are a miss more often than a hit these days. Obviously they cannot ever be completely true to the books - different medium, not everything can be squeezed into 2 hours - but is it too much to wish the main point of books remained? Sigh.
Still, it's worth a watch, I think, if you're not expecting too much. I've enjoyed both of the films for what they were.
At least they didn't turn Percy into someone horrid. I think that's one huge reason why these books instantly appealed to me - Percy may be a bit stupid and thoughtless at times, but he's a genuinely nice boy. He's got a good heart, he's not mean and he doesn't feel entitled.

Oh don't mention the Percy Jackson movie to me. Percy himself wasn't so bad (though his trademark humour was missing), it was Annabeth I had a problem with. She's 25+, a brunette and can't act for toffee. And she had dark eyes...
THEY DID! (wails)
I think she dyed her blonde for the second movie, but I still can't get this nightmare out of my mind:
the worst thing is that for the second PJ movie although Annabeth is blonde she is dumb unlike the first movie where she was brunette and not as dumb. Is it too much to ask for a smart blonde?

...this mess...
I've had my qualms with this series (and its spin-off), but to me, they're part of those books. The ones you'll keep on reading no matter what. They're not perfect. I notice flaws. Sometimes I roll my eyes. But then something awesome from mythology appears; or some turn of event I hadn't seen coming/seen coming and wanted to see happen; and I just can't stop.
Good to know, Priyanka!
Yzabel: I definitely see the flaws as well, and some parts of it pissed me off, like the SECRECY OF IT ALL. For fuck's sakes, his mom and her secrecy...
But I loved it despite its flaws =)
Khanh (Destroyer of Dreams) wrote: "I feel the strong urge to watch the movie right now, Kribu!"
DON'T WATCH THE MOVIE D: It completely screwed Percy Jackson over! And Annabeth was really useless in the movie.
So glad you loved this Khanh! I love this series SO much! ^_^ I'm actually more fond of the second series though (which I'm in the middle of now). I think Riordan is an amazing storyteller. Can't wait to hear what you think of the rest of the books if u read them!
Savina: gotcha! I don't think I can handle a brown-haired Annabeth.
Diamond: I didn't even know there was a second series. /facepalm

I actually liked her eyes, in certain lighting, it looks like a stormy gray like Annabeth's are supposed to be but the hair is a mess, unfortunately. Even as a blonde, you can tell its not a natural blonde and that takes something out of it for me.

It's just as awesome as the first if you can believe that, even though there are more characters to care about; some of them will annoy or you simply won't like them but you can ignore that and enjoy the series, which is really well-written. I can't wait to see what you think of the Heroes of Olympus series when you do finally read it.

Yeah, i.e. The Lost Hero. I didn't think it could surpass the glory of the Percy Jackson series, but he adds awesome characters and we still get Annabeth narratives, and Percy too. It's called the "heroes of Olympus" -- not sure if some ppl just consider it one big series? Anyway it's awesome!
