Jacque In the beginning Nuharoo seemed wiser, stronger and more mature. I, too, did not enjoy the flat, whiney character she was later portrayed as, only concerned for her pretty nails and clothes and needing to be heavily persuaded before willingly supporting politically risky action in favor of her son. I tend to rationalize when something in a story isn't jelling quite right and just not realistic enough. In this case, I attributed it to her depression after losing intimate marital access to the Emperor.

Serena I agree with your comment wholeheartedly! It seems as if Nuharoo forgot about her previous hardship when she entered the palace. Still, she does become slightly likable in the later books when she deals with all the political struggle, so do check them out if you haven't yet! Happy reading :)
