Markus Great review, Sean! I'm glad we agree that this is the best fantasy universe ever created.

Thanks :)

As much as I love other fantasy universes, nothing can ever compare to Tolkien’s.

Argona Great review! Middle-earth really is the best fantasy universe.

Nikki Wonderful review! The first two sentences of this book are so brilliant. The Hobbit is one of my all time favorite books, and now I feel like I need to re-read it :) I think you're dead right that Middle Earth qualities can be found in most high fantasy.

Thanks :)

I think it's too much of an inspiration for it not to be. I think sometimes authors use elements of it without even being aware of doing so.

Doreen Petersen Great review! Although this isn't the sort of book I would like to read my husband would love it! Going to recommend it to him.

Efrona Mor I love the review, Sean.. And I agree, reading it was huge. The unique and elegant way he writes takes a person into the story as part of the magic.. I love the book and mark it one of the best ever written.

I hope he likes it! :)

Its something I'll read many more times. Sometimes I just pick it up and read a paragraph or so just to brighten my day.

Its the best way sometimes. I often re-read my favourite books over a long period of time. Sometimes a chapter a day. That way it feels like your allways reading it!

Nah, it's just because I love him very much and I know he'll love it. I paid for the copy. He takes good care of me so how can I not do something nice for him.

Miquel Reina I think that is my favourite book of all time! ;)

José I agree with you this universe is one of the best ever created. Very few created universes and lores even reach this kind of quality.

That's an extremely bold statement, and one with which I have to respectfully disagree.

Well, the book certainly set up the modern fantasy genre. Would fantasy be the same today without Tolkien? No, I think not.

And for me, as a fantasy fan, it remains true. Objectively speaking, my statement isn’t true. But for me, on a subjective level, it is. This is a review so it’s only opinion. I’m just a crazy Tolkien fan, but of course there are better written pieces of literature out there.

Sure it may have flaws (the ending). All books do, even canonical literature. No book is perfect, but what you consider this book's flaws, are what I consider part of overall effect. The description is important, and, if anything, the Hobbit was too short rather than bloated.
