Ilse A lovely rendition of this book, Henri - what you see as recurrent in her novels, handling disturbing issues in children's lives in a positive way, also struck me in her latest, Louisiana's Way Home. A very fine author she is.

Henry Martin Thanks for the comment, Ilse. I have not read that one, but I'm adding it now :)

Julie Henry,
So few of us take the time to review children's lit on here, and I always appreciate it when you do. We did order Kate DiCamillo's Tiger Rising and are looking forward to cracking the cover. She's lucky to have you and your family as dedicated readers.

Thanks, Julie!

I think she is one the best contemporary writers, and that includes adult fiction writers as well (which she does not write). There is something old and comforting about her way with words, and her books are never formulaic, cookie-cutter products.

I'm currently taking A&P class, so I had to put heavier reading aside, which means that over the next few months I will be reviewing a lot more children's books.
