Dan Schwent Great review!

Algernon (Darth Anyan) A good start to the year. I hope it holds on like this. The book is liable to haunt me in my future reads, as I will probably see elements of the monomyth in all the heroic fantasy tales I come across. Already after finishing The Hobbitt, I think of describing the book in terms of the Hero Journey.

That's why I've avoided reading it. Once you read, you can't unread.

Forrest Great review! It's been a while since I last read Campbell.

Algernon (Darth Anyan) This is the only book of his that I read so far. I hope I will find time for a second visit.

Glenn Russell Excellent review. Campbell is one of my very favorite -- my life's mantra: follow your bliss. Works for me in spades.

Algernon (Darth Anyan) Thanks, I credit him with encouraging critical thinking and offering a common frame of reference when it come to myths and religions. This book of his a good companion to my three volume History of Religion by Mircea Eliade.

Glenn Russell I can appreciate how Campbell along with Mircea Eliade will serve as a very rich understanding of world religions. For myself, I've coupled my reading of Campbell's work with the Psychoanalysis of Carl Jung and also the writing of Robert Bly on myth and fairy tales.

Algernon (Darth Anyan) Robert Bly sounds very interesting.
Thanks for the tip

Sebastian Jaymes My favorite quote as well "...from the tomb of the womb to the womb of the tomb,.."

Algernon (Darth Anyan) I read my own review again, and realized I still liked the way Campbell presents his ideas , and regretfully I haven't read another one of his books. yet.
also made a mark in my wishlist to check out Toynbee.
thanks for dropping by.
