Oooh, jealous! Can't wait to read your review. :)

I'm pretty lost right now! I have to quickly remember everything!
I'm clearing the decks for this book. I'm getting the audio version, too, so I can spend every minute with the story. Now I'm a bit afraid I won't like it as much as I did the previous ones.

I'm not, to be honest. I read the others years ago when they were first published and this one isn't holding my attention the same way. I'm liking it enough but it feels long, which isn't a great sign.
I was enchanted by the first book; less so by #2. I don't think I even finished it. For me, book 1 was an enchantment because I wasn't familiar with anything in that magical world. Unfortunately, I did a history major in college, so the second wasn't as big a mystery of as big a pleasure.

I'm about 75% done. Right now it's 3 stars for me.

ME too. I'm trying to finish tonight but it is a very long book!
Dianna wrote: "I'm really curious as to what you think about the ending-it went from three down to two for me."
I was hoping it was going to get better and it didn't. I would have rated it even lower but I was feeling nostalgic for the characters.
Craaaaaap. I loved the first as well, Heather, but the found the second to be a huge letdown. I think I'll avoid this one and just make up my own ending, because all the issues you listed would make me rage.

I'm with you. I want to remake the book in my head so I'm happier. I'm so surprised at all the gushing reviews.
I've stopped being surprised by gushing reviews for the final books in series. I figure that most people are wearing their fangirl glasses by that point. They're the beer goggles of the literary world.

Love that "beer goggles" phrase! Too true.

Well, I liked the second so I think you should give it a go. It wasn't nearly as good as the first, though.
Well, I'm glad I didn't read past the first book. lol!
Bummer when a good series goes south...great review, Heather!

Thanks, Jill! It was a big let down :(
You have hit the nail on the head my friend! I adore the first 2 books and was left completely unfulfilled. I agree with your explanations, especially #4 through #8. Love Gallowglass as well :) Your point in #7 is right on the money. All that said, I will definitely read anything else she comes out with.

Thank you! It was such a let down, wasn't it? I could seriously go for a whole Gallowglass spin off series!
Totally agree. I was left confused and disappointed. I wish the author had at the least given Gallowglass an ending. He was my favorite character.

I know, right? Gallowglass was the highlight of this book for me.
Jackie wrote: "Thank you for this. been wondering if it's worth it to read book 3 and it sounds like no."
In my opinion, it isn't. I felt highly dissatisfied by it.
I read the first book and half of the second. This one sounds awful. How sad for you! Good job outlining the problem areas.

What Kathleen said! I loathe multiple POVs! Three aren't so bad but anything more than that can be very aggravating or a book killer.

It really was, Kathleen. And I hear the audible version is even worse.
Thanks, BTW :)

Multiple POVs make me rage! It can kill a good book and this wasn't even good.

Thank you! There were so many times when I thought, "Well, didn't the characters just say the opposite??" The plot was a bumbling mess.
Franny wrote: "I came away with some big questions unanswered, too. Who created the darn book and when?"
I know! I still have as many answers as I did at the beginning. This author needs to take a hint from the Fever series on how to end a series.
omg everything about this review. EVERYTHING EVERYTHING EVERYTHING EVERYTHING...just thank you. I agreed with it all and it's nice to know I wasn't the only one who had these thoughts.
I mean really, though. She's a professor. Can probably write academic papers in her sleep, but storytelling is entirely different. This trilogy was her first attempt at published fiction, I believe. She just jumped into the deep end -- 1500 pages that meandered around to a standstill, and characters who never developed into something more.

Yes, this!
A letdown for me also after the first 2 books. Agree, haphazard, inconsistent plot, the who's who, and wanted also to know more about who made the book and the blood rage thing

Me too. The blood rage thing was so weird.
Blood rage? She may have stolen the idea from another UF novel, like Bayou Moon or Cry Wolf. I don't think she is well versed in this genre. I heard her speak at our local bookstore after book 1 came out, and she said she had never read any fantasy-romance novels except those written by Anne Rice decades ago.
