Lisa Vegan Do you agree with Alexa? I've read the first three of six of Malory Towers but none of the St. Clare's yet. Twins are always interesting!

CLM I like both but must admit I always wished I were a twin!

Lisa Vegan I always wanted to be a twin too, although I also wanted little & big sisters, but being a twin was my usual fantasy when young.

Emily How old is Alexa now? I bet that if she rereads them in three years or more she'll be on Team Mallory Towers. So much more satisfying to have on book per year rather than jumping forward wildly. I was also going to say that I hate this cover with it's "we're too cool to smile" look, but then I realized that the twins are in fact unenthusiastic about school in the first book.

Kate I read both series repeatedly as a child, but ultimately preferred Malory Towers. I can see why St. Clare's would be an early favourite as there's more surface fun and hijinks. But I think that the plot lines and the character development in the Malory Towers books are deeper and so more satisfying in the long run. Also, I love the Cornwall setting of Malory Towers.

CLM I seem to recall preferring Darrell and Sally (plus, they went on to St. Andrew's! I wonder if my yearning to see it is based on Malory Towers) myself. I also remember someone telling me she liked Malory Towers better because there was a pool, which had not made an impression on me I at all. Both girls are enjoying The Naughtiest Girl in the School which I bought on CD for them when I couldn't find my copy of book 1, although I know I own at least one. Alexa just turned 10, and other than Allie Finkle, likes fantasy best, while Victoria likes mysteries and Rick Riordan.

Later when I have time I will scan the original covers.
