I know what you mean! I had a copy/translation of "Imitation" I loved but loaned it to someone and have never found another like it! SO frustrating!

Jeffrey Arrowood I really enjoy the John K. Ryan translation published by Doubleday. It meets your criteria - crisp, succinct modern language that doesn't modernize the meaning of St. Francis' teachings.

One of the best The Imitation of Christ translations is by Msgr. Ronald Knox. Such a beautiful, easily understood translation.!
